So I have a Blood Hunter with the Dueling fighting style. I have a crimson rite-rite of the storm activated and attack one handed with a longsword and hit. Do i roll damage and add 2 or 4, two for each roll damage die rolled? Is it just +2 to slashing or could I pick +2 lightning?
1d8+5 slashing and 1d4 lightning then the dueling fighting style addition
Dueling
When you are wielding a melee weapon in one hand and no other weapons, you gain a +2 bonus to damage rolls with that weapon.
Crimson Rite
As a bonus action, you can activate a crimson rite on a single weapon with the elemental energy of a known rite of your choice that lasts until you finish a short or long rest, or if you aren’t holding the weapon at the end of your turn. When you activate a rite, you lose a number of hit points equal to one roll of your hemocraft die, as shown in the Hemocraft Die column of the Blood Hunter table.
For the duration, attacks from this weapon deal an additional 1d4 damage of the chosen rite’s type. This damage is magical, and increases as you gain levels as a blood hunter, as shown in the Hemocraft Die column of the Blood Hunter table. A weapon can only hold a single active rite at a time.
the dueling fighting style gives damage of the weapons base damage type. if it is a longsword then it does slashing. all other dice rolls are modifiers.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
“I will take responsibility for what I have done. [...] If must fall, I will rise each time a better man.” ― Brandon Sanderson, Oathbringer.
Regardless of how many dice you roll for damage, and even if you separate them to determine damage types, you are only making a single damage roll per attack, so you only add the +2 once.
While the style does not specify a damage type, as GoodBovine says, it makes sense for the bonus damage to be of the base weapon’s type. This is because it is “always on” - your character’s training in the duelling arts means they know how to hit harder with a single one-handed weapon. Effectively if you are attacking one-handed with a longsword, you will always do 1d8+7 damage (assuming a +5 Strength modifier).
If you use the Crimson Rite Rite of the Storm, you just do the additional 1d4 lightning damage (or more at higher levels).

Thanks for the clarification.
