I have an idea for a character not going to give too many details right now, but lets say I wanted to do a new race that was half-elf, half-orc. I have searched but did not find any of those laying around. Basically I could just take the existing races, and trim down abilities and such, and would not have to start from scratch. For instance instead of the elf side having 12 spells (made that number up) they would only have 8, and instead of the orc being able to lift 350 pounds, they would only be able to life 175 (again made up numbers).
I have a backstory and everything in my head, it will probably be tweaked when going on paper, I'm looking at a character that isn't overpowered, but still a fierce adversary. But I can create a sub-class, Such as a sorcerer/bard, or whatever. But I don't see the option of a multi-race. If someone could just point me in the right direction, I can stumble over it myself, but so far I haven't been able to stumble over the Rocky Mountains.
No, it is not possible to do it like you're suggesting, and no, it will not be allowed.
You'd have to either A) Homebrew something completely new, or B) just reflavor existing options. We have half-elf races (which are all half-human) and we have half-orcs (which, again, are half-human), but with DM approval they can represent half-elf/half-orcs, sure. why not.

If I remember right, older editions of D&D had many more half/half races. I think 5E tried to move away from that. You can make what you want with the character builder but, it might take a little work. You can over-ride stats and assign feats to mimic racial abilities. Hope you can figure something out!

I used to play 30 years ago when it was just Dnd, I usually played a half human/half elf/half dwarf, (yes I know actually thirds but who's counting) which was the only 3 races available. It just hasn't been the same since. I'll see what I can figure out.
1E AD&D there were only the half-orc and half-elf, as far as I remember. Not sure on later additions. Dark Sun had the Mul which was half human and half dwarf. But can’t think of any other.
Given that you can set your attributes however you like, can choose basically any 2 skills outside your class via background and even your class choice can be used to convey an unusual background or heritage if it is not common among those of your race, I think there is quite a lot of room for you to add in the detail to convey an unusual heritage.
Just use the "race" section as a "mechanically functions as X" and then use the vast amount of freedom you have to convey the other parent's heritage.
If you choose to be a "Half-Elf" and yet you set your strength high, you take Intimidate as a skill and take first level as Barbarian, it is perfectly easy to believe that the other half is Orc without having to come up with specific mechanics for a elf/orc hybrid character.

That's not a bad idea. I'll see what I can work up with that. Thank You.
Wouldn't the 'sub-race" feature create a subrace like with the Elves, >>Drow, High Elf, Eladrin, or Aereni<< instead of being able to add elf and orc together? I did start trying to do the subrace feature, and that's what I ended up with. Unless I did something wrong, which is quite possible.
If not can it be done? How?

Homebrew might be your only option at this point.

Races don't really have all that many traits.

I think the subrace way would be right It would just need you to name it and sort it to one or the other.
Elf >> ??Dwelf??, Drow, Eledrin
Dwarf >> ??Dwelf??, Mountain, Hill.
Thanks
