yeah, in the game (in character that is) your character could leave d4s all over the dungeon floor and wait for a fiend or something alive to step on them. 

In real life, it's funny...

One friend even let his young son use them to roll for all the monsters when he was running.  

Oddly enough he actually has his own foam ones, but they aren't "daddy's dices" so he doesn't want to play with them.
