yeah, in the game (in character that is) your character could leave d4s all over the dungeon floor and wait for a fiend or something alive to step on them.
In real life, it's funny...

Sadly, it is too late to spare you the pain, but for future or for other households where younger member are fascinated by the "magic math rocks" I thought I would mention that if you look in an educational toy store you can often find oversized polyhedral dice that are made of foam. I don't know how well they roll, but they can be a popular gift for preschoolers who have become enamored of dice sets belonging to parents or older siblings. One friend even let his young son use them to roll for all the monsters when he was running.
Oddly enough he actually has his own foam ones, but they aren't "daddy's dices" so he doesn't want to play with them.
