I'm looking over the new primal companions in Tasha's and could use some clarification on how the attack action works. The part I'm unclear on is the sacrificing an action bit. If I'm understanding this right, it's saying I can use one of my attacks to command the beast to attack. Is that right?
"In combat, the beast acts during your turn. It can move and use its reaction on its own, but the only action it takes is the Dodge action, unless you take a bonus action on your turn to command it to take another action. That action can be one in its stat block or some other action. You can also sacrifice one of your attacks when you take the Attack action to command the beast to take the Attack action. If you are incapacitated, the beast can take any action of its choice, not just Dodge."
Yes, in addition to using your bonus action to command the companion to attack (or whatever else), you can also sacrifice one of your attacks when you use the Attack action to companion to attack.
So, you could have the companion attack twice on your turn, once using your bonus action and once using your acttack attack (assuming you sacrifice one of your attacks).
What a about the part of Bestial Fury that states that the Primal Companion takes two attacks?
”Starting at 11th level, when you command your beast companion to take the Attack action, the beast can make two attacks, or it can take the Multiattack action if it has that action.”
The description for Primal Companion also states the following:
”In combat, the beast acts during your turn. It can move and use its reaction on its own, but the only action it takes is the Dodge action, unless you take a bonus action on your turn to command it to take another action. That action can be one in its stat block or some other action. You can also sacrifice one of your attacks when you take the Attack action to command the beast to take the Attack action.”
If I’m correctly interpreting these RAW, you’re allowed to use both your bonus action and your sacrificed 2nd attack (when you take the Attack action) to command your Primal Companion to take the Attack action. Therefore, since Bestial Fury applies when you command the beast to take that action, a ranger can, in theory, make 1 attack and its Primal Companion can make 4 attacks in a single turn, correct?
I don't know. According to "If you take a feature that replaces another feature, you gain no benefit from the replaced one and don't qualify for anything in the game that requires it." You don't get anything from levels 7, 11, and 15 when using Tasha's optional variant.

There is also only one action per creature, so no multiple attacks. Tasha's ranger just has a lot more options for having the beast make their attack.
