Don't ever touch the deck of many things unless you're prepared for your character, worst case scenario (but possible!), to suffer an instant death and be gone forever. That's always been my safety mentality with that darn thing. It always seems like such a great idea, right up until you pull the first card >.<

In all fairness, I managed to save another character when we drew from it last time - I drew the wish card, and then he drew insta-death so i wished him back, but yeah, you have a point haha
Bag of Beans, the other magic item of random effects. This one effects the whole party or environment rather than just the PC who plants the bean; and if the results are adverse, they nevertheless provide more of a fighting chance. Don't eat them though.
