I set up a trap on a road where the party saw something interesting about a 100 feet off the road through a bunch of bushes.
The bushes turned out to be Awakend Shrubs and it was a trap set up by a group of thieves that had spell casters that could cast Awaken on the shrubs. When the party got in the middle the shrubs would attack. The idea being when the subjects were dead the spell caster could enter and remove treasure.
Its rather hard to explain it in written format but here goes:
**Tunnel Trap**
You find yourself at the opening fo a tunnel which is 5ft wide by 5ft high and appears to be long as it disappears intot eh dark, there are no light sources along its length.
Due to the tight confines of the tunnel using two handed or reach weapons are at disadvantage unless the user is small sized as little room to move or swing weapons effectively (this is just something for flavour easy to ignore if you want).
Roughly 100ft into the tunnel is an area that looks different. The floor, walls and ceiling become dark and black with an oily look and a strong smell of lamp oil. About 20ft further on the ceiling arches up to be 10ft high dome and curves back down about 20ft to another tunnel that is 5ft by 5ft.
The walls, floor and ceiling are all darker than the rest of the tunnel and if the party use Darkvision they gain no other info unless they touch the darkened area of stone. The area of darkened stone is actually an area with permanent Grease spells on the floor, each wall and ceiling.
The Grease spell save DC 15 Dex Saves to avoid falling prone, in addition anyone falling prone slips forward 10ft.
The Grease spells are not the main part of the trap, the floor under the dome is actually on a pivot in the middle. If 100+ pounds of weight is applied to either end of the floor under the dome area the floor tips 90 degrees (Hence the gently curving ceiling). The floor under the pivoting floor is also gently sloping and covered in a Grease spell.
The floor also is not the main part of the trap. The underside of the pivoting floor is actual spilt by a wall, on either side of the wall is a Gelatinous Cube. When the floor pivots the wall that separates them becomes a floor for one of them who moves off to block the tunnel. If the floor pivots again it is possible for the second cube to be released as well.
The party now have to find a way out of a greased pit and fight two gelatinous cubes in a narrow and heavily greased tunnel.
what would the perfect trap be for an unexpected wanderer on a road so feel free to leave some suggestions on your favorite trap to set

My favorite trap i never got use was an orb in an ancient ruined library that would Reverse Gravity when touched. There was also a hydra in the room

I hope that all made sense.
