Greetings. I think it would be cool to have a grid, compatible with the adventure maps and other funcionalities. Not sure if there are any plans to include it, so I'm asking.
Search for VTT. There's been lots of people suggesting DDB should create one, and lots of people saying that there are enough VTTs already available in the market.
I would love this in D&D Beyond as well. I'd like for everything to be on one tab for me... heh.
Some table top recommendations:
Owlbear Rodeo: A really simple VTT that's useful for keeping track of Combat.
Shard Tabletop: Really fluid. Good options, lots of ability to add in content that you already own (it takes forever though), but really fast response times and built-in tokens for most things.
Some will recommend Roll20. I use it sometimes, but I've been getting more and more disgruntled with it each time I use it. Between limited image space capacity and hardline features without a subscription, it does everything okay, but there's other VTTs that do other things or everything better.

I'm not sure why we think everything associated with D&D should be free. We don't buy a car and then go to the auto-parts store and expect they are going to just give us oil and filters and wiper blades. We don't take it in to the tire shop and expect free rotations and periodic replacements. But it seems that everyone expects that anything related to D&D should be cost free. I'm happy to pay to play and support making great tools and will continue to do so.
Also, how do you do everything with D&D Beyond in one tab? I always have 7-8 tabs open just for D&DBeyond, much less the VTT and my notes segments (past and present). Mabye I'm a tabaholic... lol

Foundry VTT: Really nice design, nice options, fluid usability, one-time purchase. Overall very nice.

I just found EncounterPlus+ which runs on iPads and Macs (only have to buy it once) and is really nice.
