Timezone/Schedule : As mentioned, runs on Fridays at 10: 30 AM aka Mountain Time. For up to 4 hours. Fee is 30 dollars a month.
Roles Sought : Up to 2 players needed , any class is fine. Don't worry about trying to fill niches.
Gamestyle : RP heavy grim dark campaign. While i would not go as far to say hardcore, Grim Hollow is a brutal setting at times. You will face horrors that could rip you apart. In terrifying detail.
So at current the campaign is running with the DM and 3 players. we would prefer to hit 5 players if we can but 4 would be more than acceptable. As a more experienced DM(though newer to 5E), my friend is running it while i provided the material to work with. Though as a player, i have no idea what he might do with it all. But for now allow me to summarize a bit about the Grim Hollow setting and it's world of Etharis. Then i will put details to the current campaign.
The continent of Etharis is a dark place. To most mortals , the gods have abandoned them. Diseases run rampant. Reports of horrific creatures spread like wildfire through the taverns. Corruption is common and the power to fight it...terribly uncommon. There is true darkness out there and it IS to be feared. To be one born with the ability to use magic...could mean death upon discovery. Burned at the stake or worse. Living a simple life is hard enough let alone wanting more. That leads to true danger. Yet there is those few who try to grasp at it. But in a world where an entire empire is ruled by those of the undeath, where horrible abominations lurk, where curses can destroy your soul, and where a life can be snuffed out early by swift sickness, what hope is there? This is the world where you will try to make a name for yourself...or die trying.
In the lands of the Ostoyan Empire where the sun cannot be seen due to the will of it's vampiric rulers , lies a town known as Riven. It is here that three unlikely allies all with very different goals have come to work together. A monster hunter and physician taken by paranoia with a penchant for flames from a heavy weapon and a talent with surgery. A fallen from grace noble skilled in the use of a polearm and mysterious eldritch powers. An alchemist adept with potions and remedies whose drive for her research pushes her ever forward. An odd group to be sure but aid one another they do. The swamps around Riven hide dark secrets, the nights bring terrible horrors to people's doors, and from the manor above the town does a man gifted with undeath watch on. The town is falling to poverty and dark times. The unlikely trio at current are doing what they can for the town. They are training the guards to be ready for what could attack them as well as running a clinic from a church on it's way to recovery from a well meaning yet mysterious priest. For the time being this is what occupies these three.
Now for some info on additional mechanics. The setting is more RP focused for a reason simply due to what the setting offers. One of these is a more advanced background system than the base one offered by D&D 5E. There is quite a few backgrounds available and every single one has ranks, four in total. The background offers a special ability as well as what is called profession dice. This is to be used on your profession's ability. For instance the Academic category has a background called Antiquarian that has this ability at rank 1 : "Upon spending an hour observing or examining a subject, and succeeding on a medium-DC Intelligence (History) check, you can uncover the purpose and uses of any object, language, cultural practice, or similar subject. The features of magic items you investigate in this manner are revealed to you without you needing to attune to them." Naturally depending on when it is used, the DM chooses if it takes less than an hour. Each and every background in every category has a special ability they can use. On top of that, you get talents that can be applied to particular skills or actions that also use your profession die.
Every rank offers items as well as reasoning to them. Aka holdings. And as you advance in rank these holdings or rewards get quite serious. Ranks typically occur between 1-4 , 5-9 and so on but story changes could rank them up faster. As an example of a high holding for a rank 4, a guard can eventually make it to Lord Commander with quite the influence in the world. Their holdings are as follows "Command of the entire guard hierarchy within your area, with the authority to conscript new militia and impose martial law within a region or town. Command of a fortress within a major town or city, granting you access to weapons, defensive siege equipment, and squadrons of guards under your command. You report directly to the highest officials, and have the ear of the monarch on matters of the city’s defenses." Each background in each category has a way to influence the world around you and provides incentives to work hard in your general profession when given the chance.
The setting also offers new feats, advanced weapons, spells, and the deadly new curses. On top of these there is also transformations. These could be willing or unwilling depending on what you run into. A cure could be difficult but great power waits those who dive into these forms with reckless abandon. Vampires, Lycans, Fiends, Seraphs, Fey, and more. But beware, its not all beneficial.
To top things off, as a backer of the player's guide myself, there is plenty of new archetypes for the classes on offer. From the Misfortune Bringer Rogue to the Oath of Pestilence Paladin to the Domain of Madness Cleric, there is a lot you could possibly play. I have all current play testing material and they are all allowed in the campaign. When the player's guide officially comes out, you may simply update your class to the finished version in it. All classes are already well written and functional.
