Hey everyone!
My name is Terry ... I have just relocated to Saskatoon from Regina, and I am looking for 3 or 4 reliable, committed, and experienced players to help start a semi-serious, semi-regular old-school flavoured D&D campaign at my home.
I am a veteran gamer (now in my 50's) and I have played D&D in all its incarnations since 1979 (that's over 40 years of D&D for those of you keeping track). I am an avid collector of D&D (Greyhawk forever!), HarnWorld, Tekumel, DCC books and other OSR fantasy RPG settings, and have amassed more D&D / gaming books than I could possibly use in three or four lifetimes, so I have a great deal of experience and material from which to draw for my games.
I say my game is "semi-regular" because I am hoping to play every second Friday (or weekend), but as you can imagine it's pretty tough to get everyone in the same room at the same time. Not to mention that it's very frustrating trying to find mature and respectful players looking for a fun but semi-serious game these days.
Some DM's are loathe to allow brand new players because the perception is that many of the new crop of "gamers" are not willing to understand or embrace the true "spirit" of old-school D&D role-playing. I'll be honest - I'm looking for a particular type of D&D player, but I will consider new players as long as they:
- are mature and respectful to me, my wife and home, and to the others in the game
- are willing to provide their own books, dice, materials, etc.
- are reliable and able to commit to a bi-weekly game
- are willing to learn about what D&D *is* and what it *isn't*
- actively contribute to the campaign / gaming experience
I'm definitely NOT looking for any of the following types of players:
- Rules Lawyers
- "Chaotic Stupid" players
- Meta-Gamers
- Cheaters
- Min-Maxers / Power Gamers
- "Evil" or "Lone-Wolf" Players
- Players expecting / wanting the "Critical Role" experience (IMO it's not D&D, but a scripted production trying to emulate D&D)
- Players who want to use the D&D game to play-out / push their real-world personal social agendas (your woke politics and identity issues are not welcome in my home or my game)
If you are unsure of what any of those type of players are, take a few minutes and Google them - and you'll understand why they are not welcome at most games.
