Game: D&D 5e Group type: Face-to-face Experience: a few years Location/Timezone: EST / Charlotte, NC Schedule: once every two weeks Roles sought: Players 1-4 Game style: Roleplay heavy, wide variety of challenges including combat and exploration
I'm a DM in the Charlotte, NC area looking for players to participate in a lighthearted campaign inspired by Survivor/Big Brother style reality TV shows. The central premise of the game is that people from across the multiverse are pulled together to live in a house and participate in various challenges for the entertainment of the viewers (mysterious eldritch beings) at home. The players will of course form the "main characters" in the narrative that unfolds, but they will be accompanied by a wide (in the beginning) cast of npcs to compete against for the grand prize.
My hope is to tell a compelling story with a focus on role-play and especially humor with a healthy smattering of combat and exploration mixed in. Each session will be set up as an episode of the show, with possible cliffhangers leading into the next session if the players don't finish whatever challenge they are currently facing. I'm going with the reality TV gimmick because I want to try running something different than the generic medieval fantasy games that I've played in/ran in the past.
Players will probably start at level 3 so they can have access to subclasses from the start. I'm planning on making this challenging but not unfair, it is after all a competition show. Completely new players might have a harder time if they aren't familiar with their chosen class's mechanics and the game in general. The group will meet in person twice a week, schedules permitting. I have always preferred to play in person as I've found online play is usually less engaging and requires significantly more prep for what I consider to be inferior results. Given the current state of things and my desire to meet in person, fully vaccinated players are preferred. When we have a group together I will conduct a session zero at a local game store so that we can all meet, get a feel for each other to see if the chemistry is right, and set correct expectations.
