Game: D&D 5e Group preferred: Online (Preferably a Podcast or Livestream) Experience: Played a bit of 3rd Edition back in the day, DMed a Curse of Strahd Campaign a few years back. Looking to get back into things as a player. Location/Timezone: CST Central Standard Time Availability: I'm free most late afternoons and evenings. Preferred role: Player Game style: Story-driven with roleplaying opportunities, combat and dungeon-crawling.
As someone diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome (AKA High Functioning Autism), I'm wanting to bring a bit of representation to the table so to speak. My experience consists of dabbling in 3rd Edition in high school as a player decades ago, and a few years back GMing Pathfinder 1E and D&D 5E. I'm looking for a livestreaming group looking or willing to bring in a new player. My time zone is Central Standard Time (GMT-5 or GMT-6 depending on the time of year, gotta save that daylight).
My character is named Whimsical Coil (AKA Whimsy), she is a Tabaxi Artificer who lives with her twin brother and sister in a potion shop named The Door is A Jar (the entrance is literally a large alchemy jar with a revolving door inside). As children, she and her siblings discovered an abandoned Gnomish library with lots of books about various subjects. Whimsy latched hard onto tinkering, while her "older" sister Austere "Aussie" Page became interested in alchemy and her "younger" brother Tricking "Trick" Treat became interested in math. One particular book was written in some combination of cyphers and thus far Whimsy has only figured out a handful of passages. She also discovered a mysterious shard of metal which eventually transformed into a mechanical-looking statuette resembling the animal companion of a certain famous drow ranger (this may require a few homebrew modifications to the steel defender, which I shall detail shortly). Depending on which level she starts at, she may have discovered that the figurine can be used to summon a life-sized version that she has named the Groovy Utilitarian Experimental Nanoconstruct or GUEN.
Tentative Homebrew Rules for GUEN: The figurine is an unusual magical item that actually attunes to its owner rather than the other way around. It may or may not contain some form of intelligence that decides who it will and will not attune to. In short, only Whimsy can use the item. As a bonus action, Whimsy can speak its name and a dark mist will leave the figurine and form itself into a life-sized version in a space within 5 feet which functions as a Steel Defender as part of the Battle Smith sub-class. In order to dismiss GUEN, it must be back within 5 feet and Whimsy must use another bonus action to request it to return.
These rules can be tweaked to whatever the DM considers most balanced or dropped altogether. The purpose, beyond Whimsy's wishing it to function similarly to Drizzt's Guenhwyvar (being a fangirl and all), is to ensure that Whimsy doesn't have to deal with walking around towns and cities with a large mechanized panther that's rather conspicuous.
Whimsy desires to go out and adventure, perhaps discovering some of the secrets from the encoded journal she found along the way. She's determined to ask the next set of adventurers to wander into her sister's shop if she can join them. Perhaps there's also a particular task Austere might wish to give them as well to acquire a rare ingredient or something.
Whimsy is 25 years old, 5'11", 152 lbs., blue eyes, grey fur with black tabby stripes and markings. She also has pink hair, dyed with a special alchemical solution developed by her sister which "permanently” changes the color until another solution is used to reverse it, tied up in coiled spiral pig tails. Her personality is a cross between Lucca from Chrono Trigger and Futaba from Persona 5. She often acts timid and reserved, but once you get her talking about a subject that interests her, she’ll talk nonstop with great enthusiasm. She has the Sage background rather than guild artisan because I think that fits her better. She’s seeking to improve herself and become more comfortable getting along with people in addition to improving her skills as an artificer.
The campaign setting does not need to be Forgotten Realms, it could simply be a place where Drizzt exists as a fictional character (or there’s an alternate version of him in the setting).
