I'm decently new to DnD, but from having played other unofficial formats I know that I enjoy Story-based, especially highly world-built Roleplays. I recently moved close to SLCC South City Campus for school, and want to try playing DnD again.
I have played DnD before but I've never lasted through a whole campaign. The DMs I played with didn't really take time to explain things, and I was often left in the dust, being the only new player in the slightest. On top of this I have been informed by most people online who play DnD that I know, that, at least from the explanations I gave of my experiences, the people I played with were seriously strict 'rule lawyers.' I just wanted to roleplay and have a good time, but we would roll charisma for random conversations with other NPCs or even each other, regardless of any impact on the story as a whole, or even if there wasn't an objective of the conversation! I felt as if it weren't for me, but kept coming back because of how much fun all my friends online made it sound, and all the fun I have creating characters and building worlds in significantly less official roleplaying formats.
Now that I've moved I think it would be a great opportunity to look for another group to give DnD another go! This time with a fresh, new outlook. If anyone thinks they have a campaign where a new player might be able to fit in, let me know! I don't know if I could do an online campaign, but I'd be willing to give it a go for sure if nothing else!
TLDR: I've struggled with being the only new player in a group of experienced and somewhat impatient rule lawyers. Now I've moved and I'm looking for a DnD group to join that might be more supportive of my cluelessness and help me get into DnD more smoothly.
