Game: D&D 5e Group type: Online - Discord Location/Timezone: Mountain Standard Time Schedule: Weekly*, Saturday @ Noon EST, sessions expected to be between 3 and 4 hours. Session Zero July 10. Roles sought: 4-6 Players (Applications open until July 2 at 11:59pm; will be in communication with all applicants) Game style: Casual
*48/52 weeks of the year, with breaks for Christmas and a vacation or two (will give several months notice on those plans).
Alrighty. Let me start off with a quick tl/dr: I’m looking to start up a (hopefully) long-running weekly 5e campaign that features a homebrew setting. Campaign is very much a sandbox style, where I’ll gear the style of campaign (dungeon crawl, city building, political intrigue, etc) to appease the group. There’s no tracks for this railroad; although there will be some initial accessibility issues preventing you from leaving the starting zone. I am hoping to find at least 4 players (capping at 6) who are willing to commit to joining such a campaign.
As for me… Name’s Brett. I’ve been playing Dungeons and Dragons since the early 2000’s, almost exclusively as a DM. I have introduced the game to approximately 50 players during that time, so I’d like to believe that I’d be considered ‘noob friendly’. My games do tend to lean a bit heavier towards the combat side, but over the years I’ve been strengthening the role playing and world building sides of my game. I believe in making D&D an enjoyable experience for the whole group and having your character always on the brink of death isn’t enjoyable (for most), so expect combat to be fair, yet rewarding. Not entirely ruling out player deaths/tpk (the dice hate us, after all), just saying that I’m not out for blood. Now, I’m not entirely familiar with online D&D, having hosted maybe a dozen or so sessions via Zoom calls where I’ll rotate my camera to show the battlegrid during combat, and players still had physical dice and character sheets. As such, I’m not sure as to the viability of posting this recruitment on dndbeyond if I’m not necessarily going to utilize it myself (but you as players are most certainly welcome).
What am I’m looking for in players/group? I really have very few requests beyond requiring people to be mature individuals, which may be a miracle in its own right... Just don’t be a jerk, either in game or out; and not just to eachother (meaning no infighting, stealing from the party, lone wolf shenanigans), but also to the NPCs in the game (at least the ones that don’t deserve it). Basically asking for no outright evil stuff, like torturing a captive, alright? Also, if any sexual encounters arise, they will be roleplayed simply as a *fade to black*.
For characters, we’ll talk it out during session zero, and with any luck we can make a fairly balanced group that appeases everyone… but if we end up with 5 barbarians having a damage high score competition, so be it. Let’s plan on sticking with officially published content and standard array for ability scores, alright? My campaign has places for most published races to call ‘home’, although there will probably be some concern from the locals if the more traditional ‘monster’ races are gallivanting around the place as adventurers. I don’t expect in-depth backstories to be prepared (although I’ll work with you if that’s how you want to go), but at the very least give me something to weave into the larger narrative.
Now, for the actual sales pitch as to why you’ll want to play this campaign. I wish to introduce you to Granstar, a subtropical continent that has a lengthy history of calamity and war, although any books on the matter are constantly being rewritten to suit the most recent victor’s narrative. This current version of Granstar sees the figurative (and geographical) core of the continent, the once mighty Whiteheart Empire in shambles following decades of civil war, secession, and a subsequent revolution. New nations, helmed by ‘so-called’ savage humanoids, have sprung up in both the Marshfang Swamps to the northeast and the Nightfeather Mountains in the northwest.
There’s opportunity aplenty for adventurers, as the near endless cycle of war has left many great civilizations forgotten, the countless ruins that sprinkle the land serving as little more than the foundation for new nations to be built upon. One such location is the Cobalt Jungle, which is largely considered to be nigh uninhabitable thanks to centuries of unchecked wildmagic zones, feywild rifts, and wandering behemoths. During its heyday, the aforementioned Whiteheart Empire had established colonial forts along the banks of the Sapphic River, which pierces thru the heart of the Cobalt Jungle, intending to lay sole claim to that trade route. Most of these hastily constructed outposts have long since been abandoned. Recently however, communities all along the Sapphic River have been seeing an influx of precious gemstones hitting the market, accompanied with honeyed words promising freedom, good pay, and a new life at Fort Emeralda.
I will admit that, as of this moment, I do not have the whole continent (some 600,000sq miles) fleshed out fully, but there shouldn’t be any concerns about the immediate play area (and if you get beyond the 73,000sq miles of content I’ve got ready, I’m not providing good enough enticements along the way). I’m working on getting a pdf of the campaign setting, or at least what’s immediately relevant, ready ahead of session zero.
So, if after all of that you still have an interest in joining this campaign, I welcome you to send me a private message with the answers to the questionnaire located below. We all want to have fun gaming experience and hopefully we’ll get a good group of players together.

This is pretty much exactly what I've been hoping to find here. My name's Tomáš (from Czechia; discord: Tomáš#5764); I'm 27 and I've spent the last 2ish years enjoying 5e (after getting into Critical Role) both as a DM and a player, almost exclusively online. I'm very familiar with the mechanics of the game and I'm currently trying to work on my roleplaying.
I'm here to have a good time, meet some fellow enthusiasts for the game and I'd love the chance to bring a particular character concept to life over the course of a long-term campaign. I'm discouraged by folks getting angry about bad dice rolls, generally not accepting the game or just being plain jerks. That about covers it, I think.
How much experience do you have with D&D? Pretty much none. Was introduced to it by a friend a couple days back and Ive been doing some research since. Would really appreciate people to help me get into it. It seems really rewarding.
What would you like to get out of this game? Get the basics of the game. Meet some people. Have some fun!

Thank you to everyone who has expressed interest so far. Was honestly not expecting this level of interest, and in hindsight, I probably should have muted my phone overnight; so many email notifications!
As mentioned in the post, I'll keep the window for applicants open until Friday night. It will be a tough decision to make, but I will be in contact with every person who has applied, regardless of whether or not I'm extending an invitation. I'm already at 15 or so applicants, so unfortunately I will be passing on some good people.
How much experience do you have with D&D? - I have been apart of roughly 2 campaigns that haven't been finished, and a couple others that didn't really get off the ground. Still consider myself a noob as I am trying to learn a lot of the rules. My last campaign was very fun, but life got in the way and the campaign fizzled out. Recently, I have been deep-diving into more lore, doing more research on classes, and the races' histories/attributes.
What would you like to get out of this game? - Hopefully some more friends and a better understanding of the game! I want to DM a game one day, but for now I'm more confidant at being a player. I'm generally looking for a good time above all else.
What don’t you want out of this game? - I'm just hoping to get enough RP time in to improve my improve skills, haha. So it'd be nice if it wasn't too overly combat based. (which doesn't seem like an issue after reading through the post :) )
What are some things you will not tolerate (triggers)? - None! Of course as long as the session doesn't get too raunchy or dark.
Anything else that you think I should know or want to tell me? - I'll try to be at as many sessions as possible! There are some ren-fairs going on in my area for the next couple of months, so I MIGHT miss a session or two. But if I am home by login time, then I'm all for it. :)
How much experience do you have with D&D? been playing for about two years, and consume a lot of live play content
What would you like to get out of this game? new friends, strengthening my understanding of the game and combat rules, a chance to maybe play a class or race that i've not had experience with before, and overall a fun time!
What don’t you want out of this game? anyone being a dick, basically? i would like to be able to play a game i enjoy without having that enjoyment tampered with due to other people being rude and disrespectful, either in character or out of character. (I'd also say nothing explicit rp-wise, but you already covered that with ensuring anything like that would be fade to black! so thanks lol)
What are some things you will not tolerate (triggers)? typical stuff like homophobia and racism. also not a big fan of calling people the r-word, which i know a lot of people don't necessarily realize can be hurtful, but it's something that bugs me. otherwise, the only triggers i'd like to avoid would be sexual violence i guess? i feel like based on your description i wouldn't have to worry about that though
Anything else that you think I should know or want to tell me? my pronouns are she/they and i am in grad school so while i should be able to make most of the sessions, once school kicks into high gear there may be one or two weeks where i am not able to play - i will give fair warning for those if they arise
How much experience do you have with D&D? payed 2 campaigns to completion. been a dm a few times, all in all like 2 -3 yrs experience
What would you like to get out of this game? a fun an social experience ,hopefully a game to remember for years
What don’t you want out of this game? unessicary roll play, Example: ordering food in a tavern like you're acually ordering food. i had this one player give me a whole legit food order that took more than 10 minutes to play out.
What are some things you will not tolerate (triggers)? lol not much bothers me, i suppose the one thing i cant tolerate though would be overdescriptive atrocities. like you can say a person is being violated but please dont describe how.
How much experience do you have with D&D? Im a noob. I have never played DnD, but I've got a basic idea of how the game works from consuming DnD content on YouTube
What would you like to get out of this game? Im looking to finally get my first experience with playing DnD after being interested in the game for about 2 years. I hoping to get some fun roleplay and occasional action. Something to look forward to on the weekend.
What don’t you want out of this game? As long as its not something so bad that people would post it on reddit I'll be fine
What are some things you will not tolerate (triggers)? n/a
Anything else that you think I should know or want to tell me? Im relatively new when it comes to roleplaying so my character would be a little basic as to not create a challenge for me. I also might have a few problems with vocabulary or grammar at the start since english isnt my native language and im not really used to speaking it
How much experience do you have with D&D? : never played before and looking for a dedicated campaign for experience
What would you like to get out of this game? : experience and a hopefully permanent group to call my own
What don’t you want out of this game? : to be doxed, harassed, or anything of that sort
What are some things you will not tolerate (triggers)? : racism that is not related to the campaign, such as saying the n word. in-game racism is perfectly fine as it adds to the experience, I just don't want to hear racist remarks outside of what is happening in-game.
Anything else that you think I should know or want to tell me? : please just be patient with me if i am picked to join.
I am new i can't do voice acting, but will do anything in my power to role play my character as good as I can. well i don't want run in loot, fight , run in games.
What are some things you will not tolerate (triggers)?
Never had an issue in my games, if somthing comes up will talk about it.
Anything else that you think I should know or want to tell me?
I am looking for a game i can immerse my self in, i wanna love my character, and my caracter to befriend, love other pc,or and npcs. I don't care about +1 weapons or great items. The laughfs and the feals you can get when interacting with the world is the DnD i am looking for. Mine time zone is GMT +1 - i think that would be around 6 pm for me -game day time. My discord name is E-man#0071
