Greetings, I am looking for a singular player whom is interested in joining a homebrewed D&D campaign following 5e rules/handbooks that will be long term. The game will be conducted on discord for voice, roll20 for combat, and subsequent game times will depend on the group's availability. Each session will run for 3 to 4 hours maximum.
All of the players are 18+ as a mature game is in mind. My games do not feature anything of discomfort as I am solely looking for players whom wish to commit to a long term D&D campaign and wish to engage in a more serious game.
If you are interested, below you will find the GAME INFORMATION and CAMPAIGN INFORMATION. Please answer the small questionnaire at the end here on the forums or through a PM, and subsequently leave your discord here or through a PM.
GAME INFORMATION
Game: D&D 5e Group Type: Online (Discord) Current Group Size: 5 Players + possibly you? Experience: Preferably Experienced Players, but Beginners Welcomed Location/Timezone: Discord | PST (GMT -8) Schedule: Friday or Saturday (10am - 6pm) Game Style: Following the 5e rules/handbooks with a few house rules. Players delve into a character driven story where their actions and backstory dictate the narrative with an overarching plot in the background. I run my campaigns usually as a 70/30 split (70 % RP / 30 % Combat).
This is a long term campaign meaning all players are expected to commit. Breaks are often taken as playing D&D every week is not a realistic expectation for both DM and players alike, whether it be for holidays, players having a prior commitment, or for the sake of taking a week here and there off throughout the year. This group is already planning on meeting through most of the year as much as possible. The campaign will end when each of the players have undergone their individuals character arcs, and the central overarching plot in the background is tied up by the players.
CAMPAIGN INFORMATION
OVERVIEW The campaign will take place within the World of Athera, a homebrewed fantasy setting encompassing the very best aspects of 5th editions sourcebooks/modules.
Athera was created by a divine entity solely known as the Goddess through most cultures and civilizations. This world houses all manner of races, creatures, and various other forms of beings upon several continents spanning hundreds of miles. Over the course of many centuries, realms and kingdoms alike have taken shape throughout the lands, and it is up to the very few to change the course of Athera's ongoing history whether it be through small actions or monumental means.
GENRE/TONE Athera is primarily run one of two ways: Dark fantasy or ' Mixture ' of High and Vanilla Fantasy. The genre and tone of Athera is 'somewhere in the middle" as I would call it. I love Tolkien's high fantasy epic world of Middle Earth but also enjoy George R.R. Martin's fantastically gritty setting of Ice and Fire. My love for these polar opposites of fantasy melded into the tone of Athera, which takes the best of both and attempts to give the players a sense of realism but still harboring the love of what makes D&D fun. Athera operates based upon the sourcebooks of D&D 5th edition, so all basis of technology and magic fall under whatever guidelines are established within the books themselves. It is structed within a way to feel familiar to the players of Faerun campaigns and alike, but also acting fresh and new.
PLAYER EXPERIENCE As stated before, Athera is designed to feel familiar to players of D&D while also offering a fresh new setting for players to experience a campaign within. Each player is given enough time before the campaign starts to weave a backstory with me into the world and watch as their player undergoes their own arc which can be tailored by themselves or with my help in the campaign.
My campaigns operate on a open world style setting where the players' backstories determine the plot and ongoing on the group. There is an overarching narrative which ties each players together and it is up to the players and their actions on how the campaign will go.
CURRENT CAMPAIGN Work has already begun upon the campaign days before this forum post is up on dndbeyond. I am aiming to engage my players within a campaign which starts small and eventually can turn into a large scale epic which they can become heroes or the like. All of my campaigns are good centered, as I am not one for an evil campaign. This campaign is going to feature elements of Final Fantasy, a few scrambles of typical D&D action, and some other aspects which I don't wanna get into as the players at the end of the day determine where the story goes.
Questionnaire What days work best for you?
Give an example of an experience you’ve had as a player that you personally enjoyed, and an experience you have personally disliked as a player… Is there anything from previous campaigns that you wish was in other campaigns? Do you enjoy role-playing? Are you willing to commit to a long-term campaign?
What type of story are you looking for in a campaign?
What days work best for you? - Every day after the 8 of July, I can be really flexible. My time zone is GMT +2, but I don't mind staying up all night.
Give an example of an experience you’ve had as a player that you personally enjoyed, and an experience you have personally disliked as a player - I have played in various campaigns and I have experienced heavy RP and heavy combat games. Although I prefer to have a balance of the two, I do not mind if some sessions have only one or the other. I do not mind the homebrew element to a game, I just want clarity to the rules if you change something so there isn't any misunderstanding. I hate when I think A is under an effect and it is not for x reason.
Is there anything from previous campaigns that you wish was in other campaigns? - I wish to have open communication between everyone about what is acceptable and what is it not. As well as, have clear communication about things changes due to homebrew or otherwise (like a feature would work differently or something else).
Do you enjoy role-playing? - I really enjoy it, but I try to improve. I do not consider myself a good role player, but I'm trying to become one.
Are you willing to commit to a long-term campaign? - As long as I do not have exams. Yes, and I have been looking for a long-term campaign.
What type of story are you looking for in a campaign? - I like high magic campaigns, but I do not mind exploring other themes as well. I just want to make a character that will be useful in the campaign (I do not want to make a forest explore for a pirate game for example)
What days work best for you? I work every other weekend with alternating Fridays off. only days i have off reliably.Central Standard Time
Give an example of an experience you’ve had as a player that you personally enjoyed, and an experience you have personally disliked as a player… Enjoyed the light hearted RP and heavy combat of my early days. disliked players that complained about every little detail to get their way.
Is there anything from previous campaigns that you wish was in other campaigns? no not really.
Do you enjoy role-playing? yes a little bit of role play is fun.
Are you willing to commit to a long-term campaign?
absolutely
What type of story are you looking for in a campaign?
What days work best for you? Fri-sat i am free to play (PST)
Give an example of an experience you’ve had as a player that you personally enjoyed, and an experience you have personally disliked as a player…
Experience I liked was the DM used my background and worked with me to fill in backstory as game pogressed we adapted the character in first session keeping some info open to be created as game went on with personality and traits.
Is there anything from previous campaigns that you wish was in other campaigns? Open dialogue with the group so all stories end up intertwined through the story not feeling we all have to take multiple indiviual session to do a personal objective but joint ones
Do you enjoy role-playing? Yes, i'm not the strongest but i do enjoy it and will give my all even though i can be shy.
Are you willing to commit to a long-term campaign?
Yes
What type of story are you looking for in a campaign?
Balanced where all can be creative either through dialogue or through actions
-Well I live in europe so both friday and saturday at 10 am would mean around 5pm for me so that would work rather well. the latest i could start would be around 1PM PST.
Give an example of an experience you’ve had as a player that you personally enjoyed, and an experience you have personally disliked as a player…
-I very much enjoyed a particular moment when a companion without knowing took up a magical stone and triggered an sort of explosion downing to third´s of our party. The confusion on his face were priceless. -I disliked a scenario with a toxic player who made unjust comments about other characters and how they did not fit into the story and that sort of thing, he ended up leaving the campaign. Is there anything from previous campaigns that you wish was in other campaigns?
-I dont want to mess to much with the DM´s world and I like to live in the darkness not knowing too much =) Do you enjoy role-playing?
-I love RP. I have grown to like it more than combat which was the highlight when I started playing DnD. Are you willing to commit to a long-term campaign? -Yes very much so. That give the players time to develop their characters.
What type of story are you looking for in a campaign?
Mystery, puzzles and dramatic plot twists =)
If you liked my response you can contact me on discord at Mytoz#6697. If not, then I hope you find a good match and have a great game!
What days work best for you? Any day towards the evening works for me I am est but I could make most times work.
Give an example of an experience you’ve had as a player that you personally enjoyed, and an experience you have personally disliked as a player… Given that the majority of my experience in dnd has been as an eternal dm I haven’t got to be a player. That being said my favorite experience was roleplaying as someone’s patron and granting them their powers. Is there anything from previous campaigns that you wish was in other campaigns? Something I found really interesting but never done it myself was having the dm role death saves and not tell the players how it was going until the downed player was either healed or died. Really adds to the tension of the situation. Do you enjoy role-playing? Yes it is my favorite part of dnd I love playing new characters. Are you willing to commit to a long-term campaign? Yes like I said I have been nothing but a dm and want to play as a character in something other than a one shot.
What type of story are you looking for in a campaign? A gripping emotional story with ups and downs and hopefully just good fun.

What days work best for you? I live in Germany, so an early game in your zone works great here. I would love something 7:00 p.m. Berlin time or later, Fridays; my Saturdays are sometimes taken, so that's out. I have been looking for a game where the group has a sense of commitment, and this sounds like, well, that.
Give an example of an experience you’ve had as a player that you personally enjoyed, and an experience you have personally disliked as a player… I adored the games I started out playing back in high school. They were homebrew, so probably adaptations of 1e (I am a few years older than dirt). In one game, a series of poems was tied to aspects of the lore of the world; in one game I played a Schmendrick-style sorcerer with no control over which spell he would cast each time—I rolled on a huge spell table and then had to decide what to do with what I got. What these experiences had in common was they were intensely stimulating to the imagination. Disliked: I have played games in which players whose characters had slightly less-than-average intelligences felt that meant they could do all sorts of ridiculous things that often almost got us killed. I love a sense of humor and play, but I tend to take the game seriously to a certain extent.
Is there anything from previous campaigns that you wish was in other campaigns? I have been pretty lucky with DMs. Among them I note some excellent role play of NPCs and villains; allowing the DM's own colorful or highly creative personalities to infuse the games (e.g., bringing their other interests into the game, from mini-making to architecture to writing poetry); and great patience with people like me, all of whose characters are a little absent minded, as I am. As far as, like, story elements, I am wide open. My own style, if I have one, centers around trying to find clever, sometimes improvised solutions to problems.
Do you enjoy role-playing? I enjoy it, but I am—despite some notable accomplishments in acting and puppetry as a young person and several years teaching drama—not as deft with it as I'd like. I tend to ease into the role. Part of the problem is I hate absolutes, e.g., stock characters, and these are hard to avoid sometimes.
Are you willing to commit to a long-term campaign? Yes. I would prefer it.
What type of story are you looking for in a campaign? I like a story with some depth to the lore, though not smothering in it; maybe some puzzles and challenges requiring lateral thinking; and occasional lighthearted moments. A balance of RP, adventuring and combat is good.
