Game: D&D 5e Group preferred: Online / (Face to Face is an option in the future once restrictions are slightly better) Experience: New, never played before Location/Timezone: Location: Ireland, Timezone: IST (GMT +1) Availability: I am available in the evenings at 18:00+ till midnight, on the weekends I am available all to whatever times Preferred role: Player Game style: As it is my first time, ideally I would like a very casual or beginner friendly type of game
Additional comments: I don't know what casual/hardcore means contextually to DnD, is it just the time commitment or does it affect the actual game itself? casual games are well, more casual & laidback & you don't need to analyse every thing to DM says for clues about the story & such, or is it just a time based thing? Casual games are once a week, 1 hour whilst hardcore is like 3 times a week & 3 hours each etc etc. Can anyone explain that to me for future reference? thank you :3
Hi. I'd say casual/hardcore is more about how seriously you take the game and, to some degree, how experienced you are. Hardcore players might put more effort into backstory, might be into deep immersion roleplaying and exploring psychological themes of the campaign or their character's development, and probably want a long term campaign over a lighthearted one-shot session. Maybe also much more strict about rules.
Casual players might be more interested in hanging out with friends. The socail aspect trumping the mechanics of the game. The game can be less serious, more freeform, maybe with house-rules created and/or discarded on the spot.
In my experience most games are somewhere in between and include players from a sliding scale of these preferences.
Where in Ireland are you based, btw?
