I'm Matt, an avid TTRPG player ... who has admittedly ... never actually played D&D. I've played/run: Star Wars FFG, L5R, Deadlands, Gurps, Scion, WhiteWolf stuff, MnM, and ... well, probably a few others that I can't recall. I RAN a D&D 3.5 one-shot some time ago. But ... I've never actually set foot into a D&D campaign as a a player. And I've never seen/played 5e.
I'd ... like to change that. I'm a software guy, I work ... whenever I say I work. So I'm open to games whenever they can happen - I'll make my life move around them, so long as we aren't playing at like 3 AM my time (GMT-6, US Central). I'm very familiar with discord, skype, slack, teams, hangouts, cisco, roll20, and can become familiar with any other vox system required - my job requires quality communications, and I ... well ... have quality communications. I'm not the most easily social dude ever, but I don't count myself a complete recluse. I don't have a ton of experience in "pick-up" groups, having mostly played with friends, but I'm happy to learn.
I'm happy to play nearly any party role. I've played healers, I've played support. I've played some tanks. I've played mages. I've played fighters. I've played lovable dumb brutes and wise-asses. I've played stoic sage mages and firebrands with weapons. Whatever you think you need in your campaign, let me know, I'm here for it. I'm always willing to learn, as well. I DO tend to value characters which are narratively valuable over characters which are mechanically valuable (it's much less fun to mow down underpowered mobs than it is to heroically make a crazy-ass roll with a weird idea that somehow works to figure out a wacko plan that enables a crazy idea that amazingly saves the day - those are the stories we tell - not the 14000'th goblin we stepped on - there's nothing quite as funny as using create water to make it look like the door guard peed his pants, causing him to abandon his post, and letting you walk right in).
In the spirit of suggestion:
Game: D&D 5e Group preferred: Online / Face-to-face (N Chicago Area) / either Experience: Much, and none, see above Location/Timezone: Central US (UTC-6) Availability: Basically any time Preferred role: Player Game style: Casual, some roleplay, some combat, new-er player friendly.
I've got an ongoing homebrew campaign currently at level 10. If you think that would be interesting, I've posted a link to the details below. You can reach me on Discord at alexarthur94 #3057
Maximilian "Mad Max" Oceanus, transmutation wizard, best known for being on the team that saved the universe from Kozelak's infinite hunger, and also an avenger of the Unspoken. Olaf Ericsson, a jolly ranger with a bit of an anger problem. Also likes to sing. Yaethel Akeelan, a druid with a plan; a very, very big plan. Damien Rook, full time author, part time adventurer. Plays god on Saturdays.
