Game: D&D 5e Group type: Online - We will be using Zoom, Discord (for planning, updates, and for private communication while playing), and the DnD Beyond Phone App. Experience: 6 Years Experience as a DM. Players of all experience levels are welcome Location/Timezone: East Coast USA Timezone Schedule: We will be playing approximately once a month on weekends (First session is penciled in for August 27th, but this can be changed if it doesn't work for too many people). Heavy emphasis on not making this group a huge commitment. Roles sought: Looking for players - I have four players committed already, I am looking to have a total player count in the 8-10 range. See below on more details on how this will work. Game style: This game will focus heavily on Role Playing and Exploration. There will be some combat, but probably a bit less than average.
More Detail:
My desire to make this a larger than average group is an extension of wanting to make it very low pressure. The group will meet once a month as stated, and if you can't make a session, not a big deal at all. I intend to run this in such a way as to make it fairly easy for characters to drop in and out of the story with little disruption.
As a DM, I am pretty permissive and see it as my job to help the players do the things they wish to do. I tend to follow the rulebook, but if I encounter something I'm not sure of or don't know, my go to move is making up on the spot how a thing should work and taking a note to figure out the "correct" way to do it for the next session. I run my groups first and foremost in a way that is in service to the story. I have a handful of set house rules that I use every game that are meant to streamline the play experience. An example would be: "It is assumed that whenever the players are in civilization, they restock their food and water and other supplies to last 5 days. After 5 days in the wild, I will start asking the players what they are doing to keep themselves fed".
The World in this game is not particularly like the standard forgotten realms setting. This world is much closer to what you might have seen in movies like The Dark Crystal or Neverending story. It's a vast world populated by all manner of beings, creatures, and monsters. The world just seems to go on and on, and as far as anyone knows, it has never been fully explored. Entire species of people have lived and died out, without the rest of the world knowing they were ever there. Empires have risen and fallen, conquerors have conquered, and the vast majority of the peoples of this world never even encountered them.
In service to this vast and wild world, Players can choose virtually any kind of race they can think of. I am perfectly happy to find and/or modify the scores of homebrews you can find online to best represent the character the players wish to be.
If you are interested, I'd like to talk to you privately, and I'm going to attempt to have all characters ready to go *before* the first session, and I will walk through those steps with you.
Speaking of creating a character, this is the prompt I've given to the players I have so far. Please keep this in mind when thinking of what you want to play:
This world is not exactly the standard d&d world. It is VAST, the world seemingly goes on forever, and is inhabited by all manner of creatures, most of which have never seen or met each other. There are cities, there are places that may have something in common with cities, and there are impossibly large stretches of wilderness but... across all the vastness and space, a message made its way throughout the world. Travelers and visitors passed it along, those sensitive to such things heard the words in their dreams, Letters were written with the words, and no one was sure where those letters had come from. The words were these: "There is darkness in this beautiful world. I have kept it at bay, held it back, kept it disparate. I have done my very best for these many long years... but my days are ending. Slowly, my energy fades, and these tasks must fall to others. If you seek a new life, or to do good, or to seek a life of adventure, answer this call. The way here will be revealed to those who seek it." And that is where we begin... so, your character should have a reason they are answering this call. I'd like you to think a little bit about where they are from, how they grew up, what the society was like. Don't have to go nuts with back story just yet, but have some idea. Additionally, I would like to know how long a journey it was for you to arrive at the destination, it could be anywhere between 3 or 4 weeks, up to several years. You tell me. And last by not least, I would like to know one landmark or place of note that your character passed on the way. Race is completely up to you, you can be one of the main d&d ones, something more different, some kind of creature you make up yourself if you wish, I can help come up with how it would work in game. Class is a little more complicated, and thus I'm not going to invent a new one out of whole cloth. The basic ones are: Ranger, Fighter, Barbarian, Rogue, Bard, Sorcerer, Wizard, Cleric, and Warlock. If you don't think any of those fit what you want to do let me know, there are a number of other options out there that have been played and tested and we can find something that will work.
So I guess at this point I will just say, if you are interested, let me know!
What's scheduling look like from a time perspective for this? I have a pretty limited window in the evenings due to family. I'd love to join with my Satyr Artificer/Artillerist as it sounds like a lot of fun. Are you starting from level 1?

Yes, starting from level 1. Generally I shoot for 3-4 hour sessions, give or take. Exactly what time of day is a little up for debate, but Sunday afternoons is a potential option, like 1 or 2 till around 5 or 6. The 27th is a Friday, it just happened to be the one day around the end of august that the four players I have already could agree on, so that would be in the evening.
I am incredibly interested in this. I'm someone who is stuck as a forever dm and would love to be on the other side of the table.
That sounds awesome. I've pretty much always been a DM too, and I was recently able to get into a game where I'm playing an amazing Wizard and having such a good time.
Would you be cool shooting me a message on Discord? Plethora22#0644
I would like to get in if there is room still, I have a Dragonborn barbarian in mind. Have dmed a few campaigns and would love to be a part of your story as a pc. I am available on that day and time. Would love to get into the character and interact with others as a player and not from behind dm screen lol
Also quite interested in joining this large campaign! Currently in a weekly game (PHB only) so would love to explore a vast homebrew world. Can be reached on Discord @ ChopperBjork #7080 if still room. Thanks!

I would like to join if possible. I'm new to the game.
