Game: D&D 5e. We have a homebrew campaign setting. We just finished session 5, so we are still very early in the campaign. We try to stick to RAW, but the homebrew setting will have some homebrew rules. Also, if we all agree it would be more creative and fun to use a spell or item, etc., a certain way not necessarily allowed by RAW, it can be allowed per DM's discretion.
Grouptype: Online. Zoom for video camera during gametime, we are a group that likes to see each other when we play. We utilize Discord to keep our roleplay active and information relatively organized lol.
Experience: DM has many years experience, ranging from D&D 1E to 5E. I have 5 years experience as a player, mostly with 5E. We are looking for a player who has some experience.
Location/Timezone: 6-10pm EST.
Schedule: Saturday. Game lasts from 6pm-10pm. We take a 5-10 minute break around 8pm. We want players who can show up each Saturday for about 6 months, maybe up to a year depending on how quick/slow we progress through the game. We started at 5th level and should be level 15+ by the end, currently we are 6th level.
Rolessought: 1 player.
Gamestyle:
1. ROLEPLAY CENTRIC: We're in search of more serious players for a RP centric campaign, not a casual, beer and pretzels game. However, we're somewhat casual, we do break character often to giggle or comment on the situations our characters are in. We are a bit tactical when it comes to combat because if we nilly willy run into an enemy, that could very well be a TPK. We do like battles, but battles are not the focus, in fact we even avoid battles if we can, but we do love ourselves a good fight every few sessions. We want players who can get into character (with maybe a character voice, but that's just for fun not necessary). By example, if your character finally finds their long lost sister, we want some kind of reaction or effect on your character. Character backgrounds are heavily utilized by the DM; you will see that missing sister pop up at some point.
2. TEAM PLAYERS: We're looking for team players, as in, not silent lone wolves who are only out to help themselves. We especially won't tolerate Player vs. Player, you will immediately be kicked from the group, no warnings. In addition, take into consideration the other character's bonds, values, etc., when making decisions and acting in character. If we have a druid in the party, do not go around abusing animals or setting the forest ablaze, etc. This will just make us feel angry and disrespected which will lead to resentment. Again, team players whose characters are friends with each other. HEROES, not villains.
3. ACTIVE: We are searching for a player who will be interactive in the discord chat, who will be able to stop in each day to check what's going on, and who will be attentive during session, ie., no scrolling on your phone, playing youtube videos, etc. We are a relatively active group and want a player who will be just as active. Sometimes we don't post anything for a few days, but we'd still like you to pop in just to check.
4. WRITERS: We are a group that wants our players to write short stories or scenes from their character's childhood and past. If your character was an urchin or a noble, we encourage you to write out instances from your character's time on the streets or life in their cozy manor house. In addition, when other players write out scenes from their character's past, please put a comment down about why you did or didn't like it. It's no fun to put effort into writing that doesn't get any feedback. This isn't something we do all the time, more like when you feel like sitting down and writing. We would really love to see how your character grew up or key moments in their life.
When we feel like it, sometimes we add Play by Post, but our PbP isn't meant to advance the main story, more to fill in, for example, what happened during our week long stay at the inn while we waited to hear back from an NPC. Flashbacks, I guess you could say. Since we play online, only one person can speak at a time and that can make it difficult to build relationships between the group, so PbP can really make up for what we miss during gameplay.
5. HONESTY: We are a group that is open and honest with our characters, as is the DM with plot (to a point). By example, we don't secretly message the DM during session about our sorcerer using their subtle metamagic to silently detriment an NPC, we state that outright to the group. Referencing a previous example, we want to know about your character's missing sister. We want to enjoy your character and lament in their sorrows with you.
6. 18+: Our campaign is 18+ and will have some dark, mature, and controversial themes and scenes. We want players who will be able to tolerate and handle these topics maturely. By example, my character's backstory is inspired by Mad Max: Fury Road. His dad is basically an Immortan Joe.
1. What is your favorite aspect of the game?
2. What is something you need in the game or it would become so intolerable you wouldn't be able to play?
This group was very accommodating and allowed me to take a look. Ultimately I chose not to participate, however they were very friendly and for what its worth I can say that a lot of time and effort has been put into their unique world. They are enthusiastic about their characters and I feel that translates into a great group dynamic. They are good people. You can take my unsolicited opinion for what its worth and judge for yourself.

Aw, super sweet and thoughtful of you to leave a review! Thank you so much! (:
I am interested in taking a look at this campaign and group.
My favorite aspect of D&D is the creativity and being able to sink into a character.
Something that I need in the game is not too many crazy homebrew rules. I don't mind changing a few things like taking a potion using a BA instead of an action but using weird flanking rules, or rules about character dismemberment is unnecessary. Just don't stifle the players creativity.
My D&D pet peeves are definitely when a DM shuts something down for no other reason than "I'm the DM". As a DM, I totally get needing to keep a handle on your game but if a player wants to do something that isn't in the rulebook I say allow it as long as it's within reason.
I would be pretty interested in checking this out if possible and it being still available.
1. my favourite aspect of the game is the creativity that comes to it and how deep you can make your character, i love making thematic characters with backstories people can dig through.
2. I need creativity to be rewarded, obviously not all the time because it can be abused, but at least give a possible chance for things that could make sense. Don’t make things to easy, a challenge is always nice but it’s also nice to feel powerful once in a while. Mix of both I suppose, and some deep RP opportunities.
3. DMs being bias towards a player, Player getting upset because they aren’t getting what they want, a player who tries to be the centre of attention and doesn’t allow any other player to shine, min maxing. I think that’s it? That’s all I can think of for the moment.
but yes if this is still available I’d love to check it out. I am 21 years old so I am above age and definitely agree with all the points you made in your post.
I'd be interested also; I've been playing tabletop RPGS for about 7 years on and off (about 50% GM, 50% player), mostly 3.5, pathfinder and Dungeon world but I've been looking for a 5E campaign to get into.
1. I love those campaign moments where your mechanical choices as a player influence your RP, and your RP choices affect your mechanical choices - Your barbarian takes levels in Bard because they got inspired by a street musician, Your cleric only summons undead in secret because it freaked out the bard etc. Also when people take the chance to try for cool shit, even if it's not always the "safe" choice.
2. Paying attention, and committing to your character choices, but in a fun way. I like it when DMs bend rules for awesome shit, but I also like it when they pin people to the wall and force them to face the inconvenient consequences for their actions. I want to feel like we're in real danger of death.
3. Players and DMs being disrespectful of other people's boundaries. I think its fine and cool to do adult oriented campaigns, but I also don't think that constitutes permission to make people feel unsafe. If someone has a line they don't want to cross for their character, you better respect that line.
I'm not sure if this is still open but I'd love to join your campaign! My names Amanda, I am 21 and I've been playing DnD for 2 years now. My last campaign juust ended so I'm searching for another 5e campaign. I've mainly been a player and only DM'd once for a friend's homebrew oneshot. That being said I've recently made a character I am really excited to play if you'll have me!
1. I'd have to say my favourite aspect of the game is bouncing off eachothers role play and characters. Being able to create a story with everyone and seeing all unfold by the end of each session. Also that sweet feeling of rolling a nat 20 on something completely ridiculous haha. I would consider myself a very literate person, I'm always up for engaging myself into a story.
2. Freedom of creativity is a big one. Like describing actions or spells. I am certainly not a picky person but I really enjoy developing a character and interacting with the dm on some of the creative choices.
3. One of my biggest pet peeves is overly chaotic players. Don't get me wrong, I love a good chaotic character as much as the next person, but when it starts to interfere with the entire campaign it gets a little annoying. It's one thig to have fun and enjoy the game! Its another to derail the dm's storyline for the 6th session in a row. Ya know?
If your willing to take a chance on me, feel free to let me know and I'll toss you my Discord #
Player seeking understanding group for consistent play. New to DND in general but always willing to learn. Big fan of post-apocalyptic fiction in general. Questions include, are firearms allowed for gunslinger character? What source books are available in this group? If I'm on central time, is that ok, so long as I can be present for game?
Please get back to me at your leisure. Again, looking for an understanding group for consistent play.
PS: Favorite thing about DND is the storytelling, character RP-ing, and the excitement of sharing a life among many rich characters in a fantasy world. Pet peeves include bs-ing during a time crunch scenario such as talking and searching containers while people who party is supposed to be rescuing are potentially being eaten or killed.
