So I've been playing D&D 5e for about a year and a half now and running a game for a little over a year, and started running a new one that's on it's 2nd session. And that is clearly not enough D&D for me so I'm looking to join another game as a player. I've been trying but games have been falling through. :(
Game: D&D 5e Group preferred: Online (voice or voice+camera) Preferred Role: Player Location/Timezone: EST but I keep 3rd shift hours mostly so later games are usually better for me but I'm not super picky. Availability: Currently I should be free Friday and Sunday and possibly Wednesday and Saturday. I also enjoy/prefer session that run longer (like 4+ hours but I can go 6+) but I know not everyone has that kind of time or stamina so I'm not super picky about that either.
About Me: I am Leon (they/them pronouns) I'm 31, super queer. In addition to the afore mentioned D&D experience, I have over a decade of experience with a bunch of less crunchy TTRPGs. I like trying out voices/speech patterns/etc. and I think I'm alright, even if accents are hard. I have fun anyway, and am slowly getting less anxious about it. I'm excitable and high energy, if loud and mostly just looking to have fun and help other people have fun too! I get invested in everyone's characters and the world in general pretty quickly. (ADHD, I don't do things by half, aha) I love exploring that, how everyone's stories are connected and such. I'm used to roll20 and discord for campaigns and I have a camera if that's what we wanna go for.
What I'm Looking For:
Long term RP heavy campaign. I'm a big fan of exploration, puzzles, secrets and intrigue, character driven story lines. I like combat too, don't get be wrong, it's just not top priority. But I really love it when combat is complex and.... significant in context?
I'm not fussy about a new campaign or jumping in on one already established. Either approach is fine.
I tend to prefer homebrew worlds (I really enjoy uncovering the lore) but I won't say no to open ended campaigns in a previously established world
I'm def in favor of homebrew stuff in the general, including with tweaks. I got a bunch of homebrew and alt rules and UA and stuff in my campaigns, but I can also adjust so that's not a very big deal.
I also have a lot of wiggle room for tone/themes. Not very interested in a... murdery-heavy-evil campaign or a plot line that to a particularly combat heavy campagin and I'd prefer... not-modern fantasy. But otherwise *shrug*. I'm a fan of cosmic horror and bleak settings as long as there is a bit of hope to be found, even if it's small and hard won. Lighthearted adventures are fun. Heists and thrillers are fun. I'm open to a lot.
I'm personable and like making friends so I'd love to foster that among the game group, you know. :D
Communication is important. I have ADHD and Anxiety so I'm not always great at reading people and prone to unnecessary worry. I function best when we're all pretty upfront.
Character Ideas?: I kinda have a complexity addiction and like having a bunch of options to play with. And I tend towards utility characters. But I'm adaptable and can fit needed roles. I tend to play strange characters who are a bit left of center and lean towards blue/orange morality some times.
I do have a character idea that I always have in my back pocket because I want to find a home for her. A morbidly sweet firbolg girl, sincerely kind but with some major "Good is Not Soft" vibes. She's a strange thing, always chatting to the plants and the animals, with a mysterious, likely tragic, only half remembered kind of past (and not much of a past really, because she's young, like just barley an adult). She was originally conceived as a Raven Queen Warlock but given that's a UA subclass, I know that's not necessarily viable, even if reflavored. And I have a couple variants of her too (Swarmkeeper Ranger multi-classed with either Undying Warlock or maybe Circle of Spores Druid)
And I do have other ideas that are a bit more amorphous and can certainly come up with more, but examples:
Particularly suitable for Pirate Adventures: A Swashbuckler Rogue/Fathomless Warlock. A pirate-y type heavy on charisma with a sharp silver tongue who can just spin all the best tales. I'm thinking changeling maybe? Just the whole, consummate liar, shifting face/personality, fluid past to match the fluid skin, thing. A pirate saved by something from the dark depths, who promises their loyalty with the same sincerity as they always do (so... not much at all) who thinks they could cheat a demi-God just as easy as anyone else and will double down to try it.
A Phantom Rogue/College of Spirits Bard (with a death whistle, obviously). Because I have a fondness for Charisma characters that aren't charismatic by virtue of being personable and charming and affable and shit..... but are charismatic by virtue of being creepy as hell, scary compelling and hypnotic and maybe not conventionally intimidating by terrifying because threats are made with such calm certainty. Tiefling would be the obvious choice but I also like the idea of a gnome and making it all a little more theatrical. A little real magic, a little gnome tinkered special effects. And even though the vocal requirements kind of terrify me, I love the idea of a Kenku. Speaking phrases and singing songs in borrowed or stolen words. All those spirits' tales told in their own words, their own. Replaying sounds of people's death, keeping their voices along with little slivers of their souls (seriously, with the Phantom's Token of the Departed ability. Destroying one of the trinkets for Wails of the Grave.... their wails.... love that thought)
And I'm sure I can come up with more world inspired characters. But hopefully all that gives a good idea of the kind of characters I'm drawn too.
