I'm a mid 40's father of 2 young children and I am currently in the market for weekly games of 5e D&D. My young children and other commitments really put a hamper on my availability.
I have played in paid campaigns in the past. My first went from level 8 to level 20 and lasted about 1.5 years. My second was from level 1 to level 7 and lasted about 6 months (or so?).
The first DM was great, but she's PST and with more and more business, she was able to adjust her hours to be more reasonable for her, and I was not able to adjust along with her.
The second DM was good, but ran brutal games. My table TPK'd and everyone but me left. I was told there would be no table when I'm available to play.
So this brings me to my greatest difficulty: WHEN?
I'm available to play weekly early in the week, either Monday or Tuesday, starting at 8pm EST for a duration of 3-4 hours.
The usual questions:
I enjoy the tactical nature of combat, but too much combat gets in the way of story. I'd prefer a 60 RP to 40 Combat split. I'd even be ok trying more RP, like 70 rp / 30 combat.
When combat is necessary, I prefer maps to theater of the mind. I like the tactical nature of combat and theater of the mind is too much "can I do this?" instead of "This is what I'm doing." I know the game mechanics and don't want a DM to be deciding if it's OK or not to use my class abilities, or decide how much consequence my actions will produce.
I am impartial to back-story or front-story. I will adapt to DM style.
I pay to play to increase the chances of finding a stable group and to weed out the griefers.
I have a good internet connection, can do video if everyone else does. I have experience with Roll20 and Foundry VTT. (I'd much prefer Foundry)
I am not a bigot and require the DM manage an inclusive table.
