If you'd like to join me for a game jam / writing session every Saturday morning (CT time), I'm looking for other DM's and writers to share ideas, read, write, critique, playtest, and chat about our campaigns.
I have been a writer for about 10 years and a DM for 5. I'm DM-ing a homebrew campaign going on 4+ years with my friends from 4 different countries. We play strictly online using roll20, Discord, and dndbeyond. The world has gotten large and the players just hit 10th level. I could use help playtesting puzzles, looking over custom monster stat blocks, and finding plot holes or incontinuity in the narrative. I'm also working on an adventure module in my spare time. I am a graphic designer, and love to make maps, handouts, and puzzles.
I offer you the same in return: playtesting, critique, editing, and continuity error-finding. But, I do have one rule: be cool. That means I will not tolerate racism, sexism, homophobia, rude, or creepy behavior. Sucks that I have to even say that, but I need to set ground rules for a baseline of humanity.
Bring your half-written plots, way-too-complex story arcs, and broken monsters / items, and your brain. Looking for a group of 3-5 people to start. Let me know if you're interested. I will PM you a Discord invite link. Next session: Saturday, September 18 @ 10am - 1pm Central Standard Time (US).
Edit: Opening a second round of recruitment (up to 15 members) since the response was so positive! If you'd like to join the Discord server, private message me or respond in this thread for an invite link.
Maybe tell me a little about your experience and what you’re looking for help with in a writing group. It’s fine if you can’t join every week. It will entail listening to nice music, writing, throwing out ideas, and general chat about nerdy stuff.
I’ll probably send a Discord channel invite when the time is right.
Hello mate, I would like to join your discord server. I am currently playing in a campaign, watching other campaigns and I would like to DM in the near future. I am in early development with my homebrew world and settings. Cheers.
I'm hoping we can get together and offer each other advice, ideas, and help making or designing materials for our players.
The first meet-up would probably be pretty laid back. No set beginning or end time, but I will be on for about 3 hours most Saturday mornings to offer my advice and seek the group's input. We will probably start by just sitting together and listening to music while we write, occasionally having discussion time about our plots, stories, characters. Rather than dump an entire universe of lore on each other right away.
Plan on having a brief description of your world, the game and play style, and the main plot. Then whatever you're working on in the moment that you could use help with. If you're more introverted, you can just listen in while you write and offer feedback when it interests you.
Once we get familiar with each other's worlds, then we can have more in-depth meetings with critique and playtesting if that benefits the group.
The sound of that is music to my ears. Looking forward to that. However, I have a question, in what timezone do you live? I am from Europe, but if It is in the morning in the States, I think that will fit my calendar.
That sounds great. I'm creating a homebrew campaign right now that I hope to start in late November. What I'm looking for is just a little assistance in bringing the different elements together so that it has a consistent tone and plot threads aren't left hanging. It's like Wildemount but, a little different.
I was thinking 10am to 1pm Central Standard Time. But that's just when I'm available. You can login and off as you like: early, late, on time, whenever. If there's already a discussion going on, we can bring you up to speed if you join, or just hang out and listen while you write. It will be pretty laid back.
The main goal is to set aside time to write and plan our campaigns. The collaboration is a plus.
Hey!! This sounds totally awesome! I’m 16, nonbinary (they/he), and don’t have a name- so you can call me whatever you choose to. I don’t have much experience in either the writing or DMing fields, but they’re both topics I’m very interested in. I’ve played in a few D&D campaigns - I’m currently in one, and I’ve done roleplays here and there so I’ve got a decent bit of experience with on-the-spot roleplay and storywriting.
I’m currently working on a campaign idea of my own and really wanted some heads I could idea-bounce with. I’m pretty introverted around people I don’t know, but once I open up I’m pretty extraverted and will have lots of ideas to share! I’m more of a logical than creative person, though I feel like that assists my ability in building solid outlines that feel complete and make sense. The general creation of ideas part is the bit that I struggle with, as well as trying to make *everything* make sense, but that’s also why I totally wanna try this out! Self-improvement is dope!! And so is learning and trying new things.
I totally understand if you’re not comfortable with a minor joining, not a lot of people are, but if you happen to be someone who’s okay with helping out the younger folk, then I’m totally game!
I am a newbie DM with just a year of HomeBrew DMing experience. While I can say that I am good at it, I know that there's still a whole lot to learn and to improve upon. Therefore, having DMs to talk to other than two of my friends (who are in the campaign I'm running) would be priceless.
Hey I would like to be involved if you are still looking for people. I have my own homebrew world you can take a look at if you want. I also like to collaborate with others to develop more in depth stories and worlds.
I'm okay with anyone joining as long as they follow my only rule (above). Any skill level is welcome, and you can be a fly on the wall and listen until you have the confidence to join in.
I'll be setting up a Discord server with text and voice chat and send out the invite link to folks once it's ready.
Awesome WorldAnvil page! I started one for my campaign, too. I just never have the time to keep it updated because I'm always writing the next session! I'd share the link, but it's woefully underdeveloped. I also keep a Wordpress blog called Dungeon Apprentice on how to setup/run online play for D&D. But my world building notes are in a million different places: both online, and hand-written.
Maybe you can provide the group some tips on how to keep your world organized.
Hi! I would love to join in, been a DM for 10 years now, for 5e three years, so I'd love to get ideas and just chat with fellow DM's and have a group to commiserate with who gets it.
Hello! I'm Nate (he/him), I'm 22, and I'm super interested, I'd love to join. I've only been playing for about seven months, but I'm an aspiring DM and I have a homebrew world I'd love to write sessions for. Actually writing a session has always been a worry of mine and I'd really love to be able to help others with theirs, too. Thank you for the opportunity!
(Edit: just realised I didn't give you my discord! So sorry, here it is: pukebox_#9586.)

This sounds rad, I'd love to join, if I may
I would like to join but, I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it every single Saturday.

Joshua/TegiusCromis,
I share the exact sentiments about needing a group to commiserate with. Stay tuned for a Discord invite link. I'm setting it up today!
