Game: D&D 5e Group Type: Online Experience: New Location/Timezone: US Central (GMT -6:00) Schedule: Games every 2nd and 4th Saturday, starting at 6 pm (18:00) Roles Sought: Players (preferably 3-5) Game style: Casual, Roleplay Encouraged
Whew! Now that I got those basics out of the way, hey everyone! I'm Mysti M (if you're not sure why, say it three times fast!) I am, as I said earlier, a new DM. I do have an in-person campaign going, but it's my first one, and I'd like to get a little more experience under my belt, hence why I'm here! Also, lest someone think I have absolutely no experience running a game, that's not entirely true. I have experience running free-form forum roleplaying games- it's simply using systems like this that I'm new at. Now, I should note that I'm not looking to put together a proper campaign with a long-running plotline. I simply don't have enough time for that. However, I am looking for a group to stick together through a series of one-shot adventures, which will include character building and leveling along the way! (Hopefully with a good mix of combat and roleplaying.) So, if that sounds interesting to you, here are the important things to keep in mind:
I'm open to new or experienced players alike! I'm hardly going to turn away someone for inexperience, given that I'm new myself. However, if you are more experienced than me, please refrain from talking down to me for mistakes- you know they're bound to happen, given that I'm a new DM, and you should understand that before signing up. Also, please don't try to rules-lawyer me. Pointing things out is fine, but do it respectfully!
18+ is preferred. Nothing against those of you under that age, I just don't want to constantly have to worry about not saying the wrong thing. I don't swear often, but it does happen, so if that bothers you I'm probably not the DM for you.
I'm planning on figuring out how to use Roll20 for this. I've never used it before, but I have faith that we can get through it together! I do ask that players be willing to turn on webcam during the session. It makes it feel a bit more personal, you know?
I am using my own setting/world/map for this game, so plan on talking with me 1x1 to figure out an appropriate backstory for your character.
I want to meet with the whole group and divide up character roles for the story before people claim specific characters, to make sure all important roles (healer, rogue, etc.) are met. Please be flexible and willing to compromise if needed. We'll have a "session 0" before we do anything in-character to discuss that, as well as any other important information (including sharing the world and whatnot.)
Character races, classes, spells, etc., will come only from either the Player Handbook or open-source material (ie available for free on the internet- and legally.) This is because I need to be able to reference your abilities and spells, and me being new I don't have all the supplemental material. I also reserve the right to veto any that I deem not to fit with the setting (especially in the case of homebrew content.)
Having a Discord (or being willing to set one up) is highly preferred. I'd like to create a sense of community in our little group, including the ability to chat outside of game times. Plus, it's the easiest way to communicate if there has to be a change in game date/time, or for you to let the group know if you'll be missing a session.
As I said earlier, our usual game time will start at 6 pm CST every 2nd and 4th Saturday. Goal is to have 2-4 hour sessions, but that may vary based on how long a specific scenario runs and player availability.
If, after reading all that, you are still interested, please post here and include the following information, as this will help me put together a group that is well-suited for each other. Applications that do not use this template (yes, that includes numbering each point) will be ignored.
How much experience do you have with 5e?
Are you, to the best of your knowledge, regularly available during the above specified times?
Do you have a Discord? (Yes or no- you do not have to share your contact information publicly.)
Do you prefer more serious stories, or more humorous ones? (Feel free to share more information if desired.)
Do you have any role preferences in the group? (Examples include healer, rogue, tank, magic user, etc.)
Are there any of the above rules or requests that you have concerns about? If so, which ones and why?
Once I have enough responses, I'll reach out to selected group members via a PM on this site with more information, including sharing a Discord channel and setting up our first session, and we'll go from there. I'm planning on closing this on October 1st (a week from today), except in the unlikely event that I get an overwhelming amount of applications, in which case I may close it earlier. And that's it! That said, I look forward to hearing from you!
Time frame is perfect for me! To answer questions-
How much experience do you have with 5e? 30+ years for D&D, about 6 months in 5e.
Are you, to the best of your knowledge, regularly available during the above specified times? ABSOLUTELY
Do you have a Discord? (Yes or no- you do not have to share your contact information publicly.) YES
Do you prefer more serious stories, or more humorous ones? (Feel free to share more information if desired.) As long as it is fluid and moves forward, it doesn't matter!
Do you have any role preferences in the group? (Examples include healer, rogue, tank, magic user, etc.) Any will do - I have played all races and classes. If you have a role no one wants, I can pull it off. :-)
Are there any of the above rules or requests that you have concerns about? If so, which ones and why? Not at all.
1. A bit here and there. I know enough to play and be well and informed but not enough to split hairs over rulings. 2. Yes, with a rare exception for nights I’m on call. 3. Yeup. 4. As long as everyone is on board, I can play either way. 5. Tend to play evasion tanks/rogues, but flexible and willing to build to role honestly.
How much experience do you have with 5e? 4 years or so.
Are you, to the best of your knowledge, regularly available during the above specified times? yes
Do you have a Discord? (Yes or no- you do not have to share your contact information publicly.) yes
Do you prefer more serious stories, or more humorous ones? (Feel free to share more information if desired.) I like to play to have fun, but a more serious tone when appropriate is always good
Do you have any role preferences in the group? (Examples include healer, rogue, tank, magic user, etc.) I can be flexible, I like tanking and support
Are there any of the above rules or requests that you have concerns about? If so, which ones and why? If I wanted to play a race or class that is not in the player handbook, but I could share them with the dnd beyond sharing system, would that be ok?
If I wanted to play a race or class that is not in the player handbook, but I could share them with the dnd beyond sharing system, would that be ok?
So long as you are able to share it with me, or link me to where it is available, without charge and so that I can access it for future reference, then yes, that would be fine. My main concern is people using content that I would have to purchase in order to be able to look at. Again, though, I reserve the right to veto it if I deem it necessary.
How much experience do you have with 5e? I've only ever played once, but between running one shots for my friends and way too many hours watching livestreams I think I've got a pretty good understanding of the rules and systems.
Are you, to the best of your knowledge, regularly available during the above specified times? Yes and most other evenings if needed.
Do you have a Discord? (Yes or no- you do not have to share your contact information publicly.) Yes
Do you prefer more serious stories, or more humorous ones? (Feel free to share more information if desired.) I love being invested in a more serious story while keeping it light and humorous with the other players.
Do you have any role preferences in the group? (Examples include healer, rogue, tank, magic user, etc.) I have like 40 character ideas so I'm totally happy to fill any role necessary!
Are there any of the above rules or requests that you have concerns about? If so, which ones and why? No problems with any of the rules. I have also been teaching myself how to use Roll20 so I would be more than happy to impart my knowledge on making battlemaps and tokens and such.
1: How much experience do you have with 5e? = Been running for around... 6-8 years now? I am not too sure as it feels as if I have always been running it. 2: Are you, to the best of your knowledge, regularly available during the above specified times? = As far as I am aware, I should be. 3: Do you have a Discord? = Yes I do. 4: Do you prefer more serious stories, or more humorous ones? (Feel free to share more information if desired.) = It depends on the setting for me. 5: Do you have any role preferences in the group? (Examples include healer, rogue, tank, magic user, etc.) = I tend to fill whatever role the party needs most (when I am able to play anyway, as I am my groups Forever DM) When not doing that I tend to go with whatever idea takes my fancy. 6: Are there any of the above rules or requests that you have concerns about? If so, which ones and why? = None really.
How much experience do you have with 5e? we have played in person campaigns through 2021. They aren’t regularly scheduled, so we are looking for something more consistent
Are you, to the best of your knowledge, regularly available during the above specified times? Yes
Do you have a Discord? (Yes or no- you do not have to share your contact information publicly.) Yes DoctorChase#6763
Do you prefer more serious stories, or more humorous ones? (Feel free to share more information if desired.) A mix, humor is fun, but we’re not obnoxious about it.
Do you have any role preferences in the group? (Examples include healer, rogue, tank, magic user, etc.) we can find a fun sub class to play for any class
Are there any of the above rules or requests that you have concerns about? If so, which ones and why? None, very open. Just looking to play and have fun
My brother and I (24yo and 18yo) are looking to join a consistently running campaign
How much experience do you have with 5e? -- I have about 8 months experience with DnD While my brother has closer to 8 years experience with dnd
Are you, to the best of your knowledge, regularly available during the above specified times? -- Absolutely, I will always make an effort to arrive on time.
Do you have a Discord? (Yes or no- you do not have to share your contact information publicly.) -- Yes, we both have discord. Mine is Cletus#7584
Do you prefer more serious stories, or more humorous ones? (Feel free to share more information if desired.) -- I'm fine with whatever the DM has to offer, both can be super fun.
Do you have any role preferences in the group? (Examples include healer, rogue, tank, magic user, etc.) -- I usually play tanks and support, but for this I want to play Rogue, and my brother wants to play Barbarian, we thought it would make for a cool dynamic if we were to be half brothers ingame.
Are there any of the above rules or requests that you have concerns about? If so, which ones and why? -- None at all.
Hi, I'm interested in giving it a shot. I've never done online before and this looks like a nice place to try it out.

Are there any of the above rules or requests that you have concerns about? If so, which ones and why?
Oh wow! Okay, this really blew up overnight. I was not expecting to get so many responses. And on that note, I'm going to go ahead and officially close down the thread, and will be going through the applications. If you are accepted to the group, expect a message within an hour of this post letting you know. Otherwise, I do apologize, but I simply don't have enough space for everyone. However, I will keep this thread in mind for future reference, and should anything fall through (for example, losing a group member) I may reach out and see if any of y'all are still available and interested.
