They say that history is the greatest of all teachers, and the tales of past deeds define who we are in the present - and what we shall be in the future... it is said that such tales shall, with each telling illuminate us all with the light of truth. I shall tell you of such a tale. it is a tale quite familiar to me for I have spent nearly a life time piecing it together and chronicling it here within this book. for years I have pondered it's passages, studying every line, committing each word to memory... perhaps now, in the telling of it, I shall at last find the answers I seek.
The Tower Time Forgot is a campaign set in my homebrew universe of Aresh; where things are never as they seem, where the least likely thing to happen is usually the one to happen the most, and where death is ever-present but is more often a beginning rather than an end. There are two major locations: The Northern region of Neforth and the South region of Kechon, containing The Grand Hour Glass and The Protest Arx, respectively - each divided by a huge chasm.
This campaign will focus on a plot-driven narrative with a heavy emphasis on roleplay and storytelling (played on Roll20). However, as players, I would ask that you feel free to diverge from the main plot and make your own decisions - but be wary of the consequences of such choices, as the cogs of this world are always moving, with or without your intervention.
There will be a few houserules and homebrews, too, such as the addition of Sanity.
We are about level 6 so I expect your character to reflect that experience in backstory and NPCs known, also we are in need of a frontline Tank (not a necessity) as the party consists of a ranged monk, a warlock, a support cleric, a wizard/bard and a ranged fighter. The players are currently involved in a lot of political intrigue and facing multiple threads of plot-lines. We also need someone who can adapt and roleplay when they're out of their depth because there is a lot of story and quests going on that might be too much for new comers to the scene.
If you are intested, please fill out this form and leave any questions you have aswell!
D&D experience: I've been playing DnD for a little over 2 years now, most of that as a player but I have dabbled in DMing a tiny bit. As a player I've mostly been part of longer campaigns but I have played a few one shots too!
Most and least favourite thing about D&D: My favourite thing about D&D is the variety it provides as a game as you could literally be whoever you want to be and no two sessions are the same. My least favourite thing about D&D is probably you get the unfortunate players that meta-game to the extreme or when some players just go murder hobo because they can't get what they want.
Expectations from the DM: I guess pretty much the only thing I expect out of the DM would be that they enjoy the game and telling the story just as much as the players as its thier game too.
Tell me a bit about yourself: A bit about me would be that I'm a university student in the UK and my main hobbies are playing games with my friends and every now and again I try to get into drawing but it never seems to go well lol.
Character concept: I'll probably smooth out the finer details if I get into the game but for a general concept for a tank I was thinking of maybe a Totem Barbarian with an aquatic animal spirit motif with either sea elf or water genasi as the race. NPCs the character might know: Again not sure on specifics yet but I'm thinking maybe a couple of npcs from his tribe/homeland and then a couple of allies/enemies he's made on his journey so far.
Most and least favorite thing about D&D: Favorite is where the story can take you and te different things that can happen. Its like living a phantasy novel where your choices matter and effect the world. Least favorite.... hm... probably nat ones at the worst times?
Expectations from the DM: To run a good story and enjoy it as much as I do.
Tell me a bit about yourself: I like to read and game in my off time as well as play dnd
Character concept: A orc barbarian from a long family of adventurers from a small island, they have come seeking fame and glory to add to their clan's name NPCs the character might know: Most likely their family name would be known by guilds or such for the clan's reputation but personally he would be new to the land
Most and least favorite thing about D&D:most is fun with comrades and numbers, least is people *****ing about the game and not trying to have fun
Expectations from the DM:help the players craft a fun story
Tell me a bit about yourself:I like thinking outside the box and looking for wierd angles for problems
Character concept:ice knight, Paladin sorcerer who uses frost magic, sword and shield to defeat his foes, a mercenary and sellsword by trade. He fights for the highest bidder or whoever he thinks deserves it, he does not tolerate people committing acts of violence against children NPCs the character might know having been part of many battles, he has many comrades and allies among military groups and sells words alike.
D&D experience:4~ years player experience (slightly rusty after not playing for some time, however any real issues would be ironed out after first session).
Most and least favourite thing about D&D:I find character interaction along with sheet building my favourite things, I don't like meta-gaming and try hard min-maxing.
Expectations from the DM:I enjoy DMs who don't hold a players hand and who can keep a story consistent and intriguing.
Tell me a bit about yourself:2 year college student and a hobbyist writer, I've done 3 years of text roleplay and quite and bit of random literature. I'm not too into high fantasy and I tend to prefer and create more realistic things, but that won't stop me from enjoying anything like that.
Character Concept: Grave-Robber Samson - Formerly Executioner & Torturer (This is actually a pre-made character that I haven't had the proper chance to use) Human Cleric (War Domain) / Fighter (Champion) Front Line Tank / Juggernaut, Flail and Shield, High AC Chaotic Neutral - potential to shift depending on any scenarios (not evil, just self centred) Skill expertise in Intimidation (along with Feat: Menacing) with a focus on intimidating / frightening foes and NPCs alike.
Cut segment of Character Backstory & History: "Little is known about the Grave-robber's childhood or family, some believe he was a noble born, some think he was a foreigner. However it is known that the life of an executioner chose Samson. It did not choose him. It was commonly thought that a local hanging took place- a priest, accused of betrayal of the towns ladyship. People knew of the priest's innocence- another cover up for the Baroness, but were powerless to rise against her. The executioner was conveniently absent at the time. It was then an idle guard randomly pointed down towards a boy in the crowd, Samson. Pressured by the guard and townsfolk Samson took up to the gallows and stood by the lever, and then did the deplorable deed. Cementing his career as an executioner. When the chief executioner to her lady passed on Samson had already risen through the ranks as the top candidate to replace them, through sheer brutality, results, and apparent dear respect for the Baroness- which Samson fails to name. While executioner, Samson also did numerous other deeds under the order of her lady, involving "interrogation", local muscle, tax collection and being her personal watchdog. It was with this extensive career that the life of a grave-robber would also choose Samson, not the other way around..."
D&D experience: I've been playing/running games regularly since 2016. It's mostly been 5e but I've also dipped into other systems. I'm familiar with most online VTTs.
Most and least favorite thing about D&D: My favourite thing about dnd is the RP and improv aspect. I love little downtime moments where the PCs form relationships with each other and those moments where you come up with an important trait for your character on the fly because it just fits, like suddenly deciding that their greatest fear is rabbits and rolling with it. Or creating memorable and dramatic moments with your actions in dire situations. My least favorite thing apart from games that only focus on combat and rules, is when other PCs play self-centered closed-off characters that respond to every question with one word answers and generally don't feel like they even want to be in a group. Really just a pet peeve of mine.
Expectations from the DM: Mostly just a willingness to work together on character creation and allowing/encouraging creative problem-solving during play.
Tell me a bit about yourself: I recently finished school and am now taking a year off to just figure some things out. I like to create, I do illustrations, make music sometimes, write sometimes. Currently I'm sending out intern-/apprenticeship applications, as I'd like to work in IT for at least a bit. I can be a bit shy at first but love to engage with the group outside of the game when I'm comfortable.
Character concept: Human(?) Drakewarden Ranger. This character isn't too fleshed out yet as I'd like to work together with you and the group to make sure they fit, so i'll give you the cliff's notes version.
Born of noble blood as the youngest sister to a whole roster of siblings. Was always ignored until the family was gifted a gem that turned out to be a drake egg, and as it hatched it bonded to the PC. After years of triumphantly winning every hunt PC wanders out and decides to become a bounty/monster hunter and generally achieve something that she can rub in her sibling's faces. Quite boastful, proud to the point where it's a flaw, generally adept at navigating noble circles. Being mostly ignored in her younger years gave her the opportunity to learn from everyone else's mistakes as she watched. Greatest fear is losing her drake, as she feels like she's nothing without it.
NPCs the character might know:
Her siblings mostly, they probably have their own skillsets but the character would hate asking them for help
She might also be familiar with a few noble families that have relations with her own
I could see her interacting often with a sort of hunters' guild, who know where to find big monsters and how to get places. Maybe there's even a good amount of members who absolutely hate the PC because she didn't have to struggle as much as them to get to a prestigious position.
D&D expierence: I've been playing in a weekly campaign for the last few months that is focused on roleplaying. We're level 4 there (started from level 1). That campaign is my first one, but I seem to be thirsting for MORE DND. I have made a wild west fantasy one-shot that has now turned into a two-shot because you know, time management. My DM says I'm a good player and everyone said the first part of the two-shot was great. I dont know if I would call myself new anymore, I'm moderately experienced I suppose!
Least and most favourite:
that is a good question! I will first say that I very much LOVE just seeing characters interact with each other and that whole side of roleplaying where we can step back and look that "oh my gosh, they're talking to each other", along with that I very much like magic items and PC driven story. Like going to save someone from somebody's backstory and discovering that particular PC's past.
Least I would probably say is puzzles? While I think it's a good mechanic in game and clever thing to do. Sometimes a puzzle can take up alot of time, and since the characters in-game probably won't be discussing things but rather we would be out-of-game discussing what we think. I feel like the DND time stops and now we have to figure our IRL what is up. But that does not mean I would be against all puzzles and stuff, good puzzle is good.
Expectations from the DM: I would say I expect the DM to be engaged in the backstory I would write for my character and be respectful of it, that is not to say that whatever I would write has to be accepted if it doesnt fit the world. I just mean that after the backstory is finished and accepted, I hope the DM doesn't go back and say like "well actually that character was a dick to you". When it was written that they were best friends. OTHER THAN THAT, don't be a rude person, be LGBTQ+ friendly and have fun along with us, not try to kill us cuz we didnt do something we were "supposed to"
Tell me about yourself: Why hello! I'm Hudson, I enjoy DND as you might have figured out, my comfort movie is Pride and prejudice, I have a cat named Mimi and she's a cutie and I'm her dad. I go to school still, and for the past few weeks I've been looking for a in-the-week campaign! Nice to meet you!
Character concept: so, I have this character I might want to play.
His name is Soma, and he's a Yuan-ti Warlock fiend patron reflavoured to an Ancient Gold Dragon, pact of chain with a Golden Pseudodragon as familiar.
He has been traumatised at the age of 14 when [DM DECIDES HOW HIS PARENTS DIED, I WON'T KNOW] leaving him with a large scar across half of his face. His parents left the Yuan-ti society because they were not...well... okay with how things were being run there and instead went to find a beautiful place in a forest near a lake where they built a house. Then something happened and Soma pretends like his parents are still alive and always in the house, but always just in another room, he thinks that he hears shout back to him from like, upstairs. And whenever he looks in a mirror and sees his scar he starts panicking, giving him like flashbacks to what happened, which makes him take psychic damage, like a small amount, like 1d4 psychic.
Now the main thing is his patron, which is an Ancient Gold dragon that changed her den to the bottom of the lake that Soma lives like right next to. And, hear me out, I want that Ancient Gold Dragon to be his girlfriend. And I KNOW that sounds like a super powerful ally, but thing is I wouldnt want her to be like a physical support but like a mental one. Plus I would say that Soma is out in the world because Erynthia(gf) is on like a world council of sorts if that exists and she has been summoned for a longer period of time.
Which prompted Soma to go out into the world, listening to Eryn's advice to meet more people and also, with his own goal, of extending his lifespan or finding safe immortality. Because Dragon gf gonna live looooong, like, forever long. SO YEAH THAT'S SOMA, if you dont like the character I have others I've made.
NPC's: Erynthia(gf), the nearest town to Soma is like 20-30 miles away so people from there like 2 or 3, Some bounty hunters because the best job to find stuff and meet people is be a mercenary/bounty hunter. And some other NPC's that you might determine he knows? I don't know enough about the world to say.
Time of the Game: 6pm GMT, every Wednesday
