hi i have never played DND but i really wanted to play a one shot before joining a group, so i could learn how to play correctly. i would also like to have a discusion on how to create a character because i asked about my character to a DM and he said that it was not normal to have 410 save which i didnt understand.

Can you answer some questions? Are you using the Player's Handbook or Basic Rules? For ability scores are you rolling dice, buying with points or using the basic set? Are you allow to use uncommon races? Can you multiclass and/or use feats? Do you judge weight of equipment by strength or encumbrance? What magic can you use; are there any ban spells? I almost forgot to ask; is this for 5th Edition?
