A "new" player looking to return to the game. Willing to make character to support campaign

Game style: A casual game to bring a "reborn" newbie into the fold. Haven't played for thirty years.I want to remember the game. I am open to creating a character based on the DM's needs (please contact me to develop). I never played with magic user, so that might have a longer education curb, but am willing to learn. A ranger/rouge/fighter is preferable. But no objection to Barbarian/Bard/Cleric/Druid/Monk/Paladin. Again I am willing to try an Artificer/Sorcerer/Warlock/Wizard.
