Hello everyone, I am looking to start up a local campaign using the Theros setting. Been playing RPGs for ~8 years, started with Pathfinder 1e then went to 5e. I have been a DM twice before for two smaller campaigns. This is my attempt for a larger campaign that will go from 1-20. I am looking for players who are willing to commit to a campaign that could last multiple years and be played weekly as much as possible. My husband, who will be a player in the campaign, DM’d our last 1-20 campaign which took 3 years, I will be shooting for about the same. Schedules will be respected and I don’t expect it to be every single week but please be committed to playing weekly to the best of your ability. I know there will be growing pains forming a new group especially when shooting for a long term campaign but if you put in the effort my husband and I will meet you half way to keep the group going.
I look at the fun of the game as a responsibility for all players (including DM as a ‘player’) so I definitely want to hear what potential players are looking for in a game so we can make the game fun for all as a group. My style of DMing is more serious/rules abided, so if you like to have a more free form time playing, more power to you, but my table may not be the best fit. I am always open to discussing any of my house rules; just ask me if you have questions/concerns.
I would prefer to play during the weekend around midday but we can do evenings or weekdays if that works best for schedules. Typical session length would be 3 hours. Sessions would be held in person at my house in Christiansburg VA (we have two beagles FYI).
Game specifics:
Point buy for stats, the use of Tasha point system will be by a case by case basis
Races limited to Theros races, no variant human, custom lineage is allowed
We will be using Piety and Supernatural Gifts
Multiclassing will be very limited, mainly because I want character creation to focus on the piety you choose and not on a mechanic combo you want. If you are trying to achieve a certain character build for flavor reasons I will be happy to help re-flavor stuff or provide magic items that will give the flavor you are looking for. If a multi class idea comes up during the campaign due to story reasons then I would be more for it.
I don’t use flanking
Tasha optional class abilities are optional, talk to me about what you would like to use, most I like some I don’t like
Magical items that give bonus to hit or AC will be limited, I like to give home brewed magic items tailored to the player/character that help them do what they do best and give them more mechanical options rather than something that helps them hit more often. I also feel like this allows spells and abilities that give a +1 to weapons or armor more relevance
If this sounds like a good time to you then please reach out. We can chat, see if things will be a good fit, and discuss more specifics of the campaign. My husband and I are LGBTQAI+, be accepting of that or **** off.
