Wicked new, just created a character, now what? (Online only for now)

Hey so, like the title says, just a 30 something guy that's just finished watching Vox Machina and is extremely new to this. Not sure if this is something I'll enjoy or not, but I like to game and write so this seems like a good mix of the two. Plus the Critical Role folks made it look pretty cool. So I'm on East Coast time, and I'm usually free after 6pm. Can't do every night, but 1 or 2 a week would be cool. Would prefer to play with folks my age and I'm just looking for online games right now. Also, no idea if it's important, but I have a ranger character.
