I'm gearing up to run Curse of Strahd as my first campaign in decades, so you might as well consider me a complete newbie. We're set to play Saturdays @ 9PM EST, with session zero on June 4th, and are looking for 2-3 additional players. I'll be running the game with VC on Discord and VTT on Roll20.
If you're interested, first note this short excerpt from Rory Bristol's review: "Fair warning: the book features a lot of death, blood, and general horror. Descriptions and events can be too much for young kids, so beware running this campaign with little ones. For groups that ride the thrill of horror and intrigue, however, this is 100% the book for your party." And make sure this is the right sort of campaign for you.
If you're still interested, reply to this thread describing:
(1) the style of game you find the most fun;
(2) a little something about a character you'd be excited to play in this campaign;
(3) your level of experience with D&D 5e.
I'll private message you to follow-up and exchange discord ids if I think we're a good fit for you.
My favorite style of a game is one where there is allot of atmosphere, and when I am presented with a challenge it makes me have to think or keeps me on my toes. (I tend to like difficulty a little bit more than most people)
I was thinking either a shadar-kai echo knight with some shadowfel flavoring, or maybe a moon druid with connections to spirits.
I have run a homebrew campaign, and played in (the start) of storm kings thunder, and I'm currently playing through dragon of icespire peak.
Let me know if you might be interested in bringing me abord. I have a side agenda of gathering people from online groups over time so there is also that.
Vague answer and then a more specific explanation -- I don't have a particular style of game I most enjoy, I'm excited to experience a lot of different ones and people; but, I do enjoy games the most when DMs and Players enjoy playing off one another to tell a good story collaboratively.
(2) a little something about a character you'd be excited to play in this campaign:
I have an idea for a half-drow druid with a latent connection to Lolth they're fighting internally - so either circle of the moon for spider vibes, or circle of the land (underdark). Or, a kenku mage, order of scribes that has left his homeland to gather stories to expand the oral tradition of their tribe.
(3) your level of experience with D&D 5e.
I've played DnD and other TTRPGs since middle school; so I have a good amount of experience with 5e specifically, but I've never been a part of a campaign long-term. I've done one-shots, and I've been at the start of a few games with my friends, but until recently I've been in graduate school so the middle of the semester usually threw my schedule out the window.
I like d&d games that are relaxed with some role playing
I have a melee sorcerer character I have prepared an have wanted to play.
My experience in d&d 5e is an in person campaign as a player that was four sessions but ended due to scheduling issues. I also have DM'd 2 homebrew online campaigns and played another online campaign as a player as well.
3) So essentially a completely new player. I own the PH, MM, DM's Handbook, and XGTE but have only play a few sessions pre-covid. I have always been very interested in the game and have just had trouble finding a group. I moved this answer first as it adds context to my answers below.
1) my limited experience has me being gravitated towards fun and challenging combat using the strengths of table top that RPG video games just can't give you. Not comfortable yet with voices/voice acting myself yet. I am extremely interested in "roleplaying", but am going to need to come out of my comfort zone a bit for this aspect of the game. Roleplaying and exploring the world is something that I am excited for however.
2) Open to whatever as I know D&D is collaborative and group based. Generally I drawn to assassin/thief/rough classes often with magic thrown in or ranged combat (rangers). Druids, sorcerer, and warlock classes also look intriguing.
I enjoy games that have a lot of mystery and role play. I mostly enjoy immersing into the world and having fun with the group.
I have a chronurgy wizard I would love to play. This is a subclass from the Official Exandria book. He is a team player who likes to be ready for anything.
I’m pretty familiar with 5e, I’ve been the DM in 2 short campaigns and a few one shots. I’ve only been a player twice, and I really would like a chance to play!
Hello, I've heard good things about Curse of Strahd and wanted to play through it before I got somehow spoiled of the plot.
(1) For D&D, I really like campaigns that have a lot of roleplay and exploration. Being able to progress through a living world and making choices that have effects on that world are what makes D&D a really interesting game to me.
(2) One idea I've had for a character is a halfling fighter that is built towards dexterity and range, basically taking a bit of inspiration from rogue and ranger. I have also not played very many casters so I could opt for one of those classes, or maybe subclass into eldritch knight.
(3) I've played D&D 5e for somewhere between 2-3 years. So far, I have played in 2 campaigns, one of which is about to end, and I have DMed Lost Mines of Phandelver for a group of friends.
i generally tend to go with a build/concept and adapt to the situation, but most fo the time im either a meathead melee, crazy caster or enjoy the general rifraff of attempted stealth and deceptions with ensuing success and fun or fails and even more fun!
i got a nice char build idea that i feel would be not only fun, but was insipred partly for the strahd module in hopes of playing it
ive only got a few games, few dozen hours of 5e under my belt, but ive played dnd/adnd since i was a teen(few decades ago :p) and its been a while until recently that ive been involved with anything with pen n paper n dice.
ive been using roll20 to play as of late, but ive been using this site to template potential fun stuff :D. definitely looking forward to hearing back from ya. the long term play and timeslot is ideal for my aspirations as a player/char :3
I am quite new and dont have much experience if i were to get a chance to join i would play a magic based character with a dark origin. And like i said i am new so i dont have a specific game style.
1) where everyone is having fun, and cares enough to know whats happening when its not their turn.(been fireballed by my own teammate twice
2) I wouldn't mind playing a warlock who has no idea who his patreon is. More than likely a hex blade, pretending to be a fighter until he can figure himself out.
3) less than 12 months experience of d and d. I have not had a steady group since covid.
1) I like something with a bit more roleplay involved, like 70-40 roleplay to combat kind of? Give or take?
2) I have this character already made I am desperate to play. He is a warlock who became an adventurer after he lead a bunch of Goblins into his town (pure intentions) and they proceeded to ransack it. He's feels guilt and shame but acts like a sneaky quippy sort.
3) I don't have much experience. I have read the rules at least. Besides maybe needing to be corrected every once in a while, on etiquette or a rule I should be alright to play. I think- I hope.
Hi! (1) My favourite style of game is one driven by plenty of roleplay and character interaction, as well as loads of exploration. In my last campaign, there was an incredibly heavy focus on combat and I found myself struggling to stay engaged several times throughout the sessions.
(2) Most recently, I finished a kitsune character inspired by a homebrew sheet I found and cross-referenced with my far more experienced DM friend, with a few little changes to better suit the kind of being I’d love playing. She’s a warlock following the path of a Celestial Patron, this being a deva following Inari Okami, the deity to which kitsune are rumoured to be the spiritual servants of. My character, Imari (yes, I was a little slow and didn’t realise the blinding similarity of the names until I was too attached to change it), has recently embarked on a journey for answers upon returning to her shrine, which was previously entirely surrounded by a bustling little village of devotees, standing entirely alone with only the remains of the houses that once stood around it. This became the event that motivated her to make the decision to finally shapeshift into a much more humanoid form, abandoning her duties at the shrine in favour of the knowledge of what happened to the village she inhabited and what could have possibly caused what she saw. (I realise now this isn’t exactly a ‘little something’ about Imari and I may have gotten carried away, so I hope I didn’t bore you to death!)
(3) As to my experience with 5e, I’ve played in a few short-lived campaigns over the last year and a half, and that’s where my experience ends. It’s the only version of the game that I’m accustomed to, however, and while I haven’t played all that much, I’ve been listening to podcasts and watching content on the game ever since I first became interested in it and would like to think I’m not a complete idiot when it comes to the mechanics.
1. Honestly I can go either way. I like combat and roleplaying and I'm fine with focusing on one or the other, or doing an equal split.
2. A wizard, just a beginner who accidentally got sucked in with no combat experience. They'll be kind of nervous and scared of everything. I'll play them as either control the battlefield or buffing other players, maybe both.
3. I've played a bit of adventurer's league and in a homebrew campaign before. I've also run a few campaigns, so I have a good grasp of the rules.

Any group where I get along with the people in it both in and out of character.
I like pretty much all aspects of dnd so I'm good with any mixture.
(2) a little something about a character you'd be excited to play in this campaign;
I DM more than I play so I have about two dozen Characters to choose from that I would enjoy playing and rping with.
(3) your level of experience with D&D 5e.
Roughly 3 years.

Hello
1- RP focused
2- either something werewolf based (shifter barbarian?) or a ridiculously oblivious happy-go-lucky character that contrasts the setting.
3- familiar but with little playtime
1. murder and more murder
2.blood hunter order of the lycan
3. not much
Just a goober doing my own work when I want to. I like the idea of not just high fantasy dnd.
You can reach me over discord as well, Handle is royalsupsi as well
I am open to work on joint homebrew projects, just DM me.
All my projects so far are in the extended signiture
