Hey, I know your pain. I'm in a open world multi-user dungeon (MUD), which is a multiplayer real-time open world run by Avrae Bot, so no Dungeon Masters, and no sessions.
Its completely played on Discord, and you can use either DNDbeyond or Gsheets for character creation.
Literally play whenever you want, how you want, where you want (bc its discord). This is how I how I test characters out before running in person games too.
