Nearly 300 years after the heroic acts of legendary heroes like Vox Machina and the Mighty Nein, Exandria has endured.
In Wildemount, the Dwendalian Empire is on the brink of revolution. King Bellamy II has continually raised taxes during his reign that has put significant strain on his subjects as he funds his dreams of territorial expansion. Over the last 20 years, the Greying Wildlands have been conquered in a brutal guerilla style war to bring it to the heel of the empire. This was accomplished at the cost of thousands of lives and countless amount of gold. The war came to an end with the submission of the diarchy, who were replaced with a puppet government to rule in Bellamy’s name. Now, one year after the conclusion of the conflict, the people of Wildemount still continue to struggle and many people are getting anxious for political change. Taxes have not been lowered, leaving many to think that Bellamy intends to declare war on his neighbors.
In Xhorhas, the Bright Queen continues to reign, though she has faded over the last few decades. Her partner, Quana, was killed in a battle with pirates off the Blightshore. Despite being consecuted, Quana has yet to return to her queen and the Bright Queen has taken this loss extremely hard. The day-to-day governance of Xhorhas has falled to her advisors.
Many in Wildemount speculate that the Menagerie Coast is the main target of Bellamy’s wrath. The Coast has remained strong and stable under the watchful eye of the Clovis Concord. At the beginning of the war to the north, the Clovis Concord imposed strict sanctions on Wildemount in defiance of the illegal war, and those sanctions have not been lifted. The Coast continues to trade with Marquet and Tal’dorei regularly.
In Tal’dorei, the Council has continued to thrive. 50 years ago, the Iron Authority attempted to conquer southern Tal’dorei, but a coalition of the Council and Syngorn drove the Iron Authority back onto its peninsula. Many in Syngorn and in the Council wish for the elven city to join the Republic, but several elf hard-liners have made the process difficult and the debate is ongoing.
Marquet remains the most stable continent during this time, having suffered no major crises or wars in the last 300 years. J’mon Sa Ord continues to reign over Ank’Harel and he works closely with the other government agencies of Marquet to ensure safe trade and diplomatic resolutions to conflict.
One interesting thing about this time in Exandria’s history is the rise of deism. Many of the temples of the prime deities have been reporting all time lows in terms of tithing and attendance. Vasselheim remains a bastion of religious fervor, but most other places in the world seem to give little thought to religion. Deism has become the norm in most places. No one denies the existence of the gods, or the fact they created the world as we know it, but it does little good to pray and worship them as they have no power to intervene in day-to-day issues. Vasselheim regularly sends out missionaries to all the prime deities to revitalize religious expression, but many don’t come back and no one is entirely sure why. The rise of science has led to people putting more faith in what they can see and touch and analyze with their own eyes and minds instead of trusting in blind faith to a higher power.
SO, if you made it through that lore dump and want to know more, here’s some more information for you.
This is the world of Exandria from Critical Role, but in the future. The equivalent time period would be mid to late 1700s in our world.
Sunday evenings at 6pm
If interested, please post below. I want to make a storyline around the characters, so I like to interview potential players to see if they would be a good fit and to get the best fit for a group.
We will be using voice on discord, I’ll also be using video and encourage anyone else who wants to do also as I think it helps RP.
You can expect a pretty even mix of RP and combat. We will use Roll20 for maps and do some theater of the mind for smaller unexpected skirmishes.
We will use dndbeyond for character creation as well as rolling for stats once you’ve been selected.
What you are looking for in a game: I'm not very good at RP but I want to try and get better. So a good mix of RP and combat is good. I'm looking for a group that is patient and understanding of a new player :)
Character(s) idea: I have 2 characters I'm playing with. I'm flexible on backstories to fight group and story needs.
First is a vHuman Monk/Way of the Kensei. With a hermit back ground. Last disciple of his sword style aimlessly wondering.
Second is a Shadar-kai Rouge/Soulknife that is an agent of [Insert Organization] on some sort of mission (lore dependent).
Both will probably have a 1 level dip into another class if that is allowed.
Note: I'm interested in the campaign and the world setting. I am a fan of CR and the familiar references make this appealing to me. What are you looking at for a start date? I am about to travel for a two weeks so I might be unavailable.
Experience: Still Fairly new to 5e but am in love with it, i have played several one shot campaign's in 3.5E and 5e over the years, and Dm'd a few 3.5 Looking to get back into the game.
What you are looking for in a game: Well Lots of things first though is Heavy Roleplay, long term story, and most of all fun! of course
Character(s) idea: vHuman with the name of Tel'lan of the Terrah Ashari (Adopted into it)
"i was taken in by the Ashari after being found in a cave during an attack on my Village. when they found out i had what we call " "The Gift" from then I studied and learned for 20 years about nature, the world, and about the elemental plane, and the Wildmother the goddess of Nature. And even becoming what i would call a guide for young druids"
I have had this idea for a druid for a long time and would love to have the opportunity to play it, but am always willing to fill in what is needed for group!
What you are looking for in a game: A long term story driven game with a mix of combat and puzzle since I am trying to get into roleplay a lot more
Character(s) idea:I am down to change or play whatever is needed for a group honestly, but the current character idea i have is a Bladesinger Eladrin who accidentally crossed over from the fey wild with her twin brother and she is trying to find him and get home
What you are looking for in a game: Good mix of combat and RP with a good amount of serious moments but allows for lightheartetness when not in a serious encounter.
Character(s) idea: Whatever the group needs happy to play any character and am excited to make one in the world of Exandria
I have about a year and a half under my belt both as a player and DM (but don't let that scare you, I'm a rule of cool over rules nazi kind of guy). Fell in love with the game due to Critical Role and have been completely immersed/fantasizing about the game since.
What you are looking for in a game:
As a player, I love player driven stories that are centered on the players decisions. I am very good with RP and enjoy throwing in flavored actions and decisions in the midst of combat. My idea of a perfect campaign is one that builds a main quest with character centered arcs along the journey. I write in depth backstories that provide DMs with the tools to create a story with my characters interests and past in mind and I love a good lore dump. Something I've been interested in but haven't gotten to experience is a grittier styled campaign potentially featuring some additional rules to provide this effect.
Character(s) idea:
Tabaxi Fighter (Samurai)/Rogue (Swashbuckler) multiclass. Unknowingly undead after falling in battle against an army raised by a necromancer, who then raises a larger army from the remains of the battle (not set in stone but something along those lines/whatever you want to do with the idea). Would feature a lot of mysterious backstory and opportunities to explore with both the character and party looking for answers.
Warforged Gunslinger. Was designated to an army of warforged soldiers and was heavily damaged in combat. Joins the party as a compatriot of another party member who found him partially functional and repaired him to a point of usefulness. Will be RPd in a very robotic sense until he is fully restored at some point in the campaign where he becomes much more human like. However this happens or the cause of this is pretty open to your discretion but seems like a fun and dynamic idea.
Bard partnered with a Rogue friend (who ideally would be another player). The two work in tandem to put on a show and steal from those who stand to appreciate the music. Would include a lot of Beatles covers flavored to fantasy and party relevance. He puts on an air of confidence and irrisistable charisma however as a performer, the character lacks confidence in his abilities and that's why he covers a popular band. As he grows and gains confidence I would come up with my own songs to sing or adapt other genres/artists much like the Beatles covers. (Backstory hasn't been thought out too much yet but seems like a fun idea should the party need comedic relief.)
Genasi Sorcerer (possibly multiclass with Warlock or something). As a young boy, the character was taken into slavery and was put to work, owned by a wealthy and powerful mage lithe with madness and curiosity towards the undiscovered arcane. Throughout his work under slavery, the character was noticed by the mad mage as he used some inherent magical abilities to make easier work of his labor. The mage then took him under his wing as an experiment and eventually was mutilated as the mage riddled his body with residuim to amplify his inate magical prowess. His final form before his escape (or deployment by the mage to act in his interests, depends on how spicy you want the inter-party relationships to be) is a man with residuim crystals protruding from his skull and scars along his limbs where residuim has been inserted. Probably the edgiest of the characters I have in my head at the moment but that list grows by the day.
Best way to reach me is discord. My profile name on discord is Gaximu5#1102. Let me know what you think and I'm more than happy to chat to see if I'm a good fit for your game!
Experience: I have played in a couple games as a player but they were either one session or did not last very long. I did not really come to love D&D until I started running my first 100% homebrew campaign at the end of 2020. We are still playing currently and play every other Sunday but our game ends at 2pm EST, as one of my players has to get to work, so there will be no conflict of time. I have a lot of experience with 5e watching Critical Role and DMing but I want the chance to flex my creative muscles being a player instead of the DM.
What you are looking for in a game: I like a good mix of RP and combat. I also like challenges. D&D is an escape from the real world so mainly I just want to have fun with others who also love playing the game. I like a good story as well and, if this is your preference, weaving my character's background into your story (like Matt does). I am happy to give you some details then let you run with it as you wish (if you wish to). The last is not a requirement for me just a note.
Character(s) idea: Probably not very helpful but I am happy to fill any role the party needs. I am happy to let everyone else choose their characters first as, since I became DM, I have a ton of characters at any given time running through my head. If possible I would love to play a Drow, I have a soft spot in my heart for Drizzt and the Drow race in general. As for a potential class I have been thinking about the wild magic sorcerer. I love the potential chaotic nature of the spells. However, I am also happy to play any other class/race and more than happy to let the rest of the players (if I am chosen) choose their characters first.
What you are looking for in a game: I love a good roleplay element to a game. I'm always about exploring character and growth. I love the collaborative aspect of D&D and really connecting with others as well. Character creation is just something I am really drawn to and I love to live in the moment through a collaborative story.
Character(s) idea: Human cleric (Raven Queen)/warlock (Champion of Ravens/Vax'ildan), formerly part of Rexxentrum elite before falling in love with a Empire spy Fallen asamair gunslinger/cleric, formerly lived in a border town and almost died in a conflict, woke up with a brand of a god on her arm and trying to get some answers
Experience: Still within my first year, but have plenty of experience throughout several online campaigns and 2 in person campaigns
Looking For: I’m looking for an RP experience where the DM works with us to include our character backstories into the overall story, and to help provide moments for character growth. I also want opportunities to engage and collaborate with the other player characters to create a more immersive RP feel I’m also a bit of a lore junkie, and the world of Critical Role is one of my favorites, I’ve been looking for an Exandria campaign for a bit, and I love the idea of coming into the world several hundred years into the future.
Character Ideas: My specialty (hehe)
Dragonborn Oath of the Open Sea Paladin. Found on the open ocean as a teenager suffering from total amnesia, was raised a sailor and an eventual follower of Avandra. Currently on the hunt for his missing memories.
Elven Gunslinger (with some rogue multi class eventually), a technologicaly savy former operative of Syngorn (trying to make him a sniper essentially) who was falsely accused of the attempted murder of Syngorns ruler.
Gnome Illusion Wizard, a writer currently working on his masterpiece, the greatest and most complete collection of magical knowledge in Exandria.
Human Lycanthropy Bloodhunter, a former soldier (open to any of the nations) whose family was slaughtered by creatures of darkness. Consumed with both a desire for revenge and wanting to keep such a tragedy from happening again, took the Bloodhunter oath to wage a war against the forces of darkness, but is slowly losing himself to the darkness within his soul.
I’m curious as to what time zone this is going to be base in (I’m fairly flexible on Sundays)
Even if this game is already full up, I’d love to be kept in consideration. My discord is GreatestShowman#1495.
oh boy as a history major/teacher and nerd my interest is piqued

Experience: 2 years now, some games fizzled out, still in my first ever game, only played a handful of different classes but I have leaned towards casters by complete happenstance
What you are looking for in a game: I'm definitely a good RP over lots of combat gal, problem solving, committing to the bit and committing hard. Letting the players and the dice tell a good story, no matter how it leads, being okay with and at times even revelling in failures because of the way it helps the narrative, supporting each other and making sure everyone is okay in the game and outside of it.
Character(s) idea: I have a couple, tiefling grave cleric or circle of spores druid is one, human wizard, lotusden halfling paladin. I can elaborate more on them or other ideas, because lord knows I have five million
What you are looking for in a game: heavy roleplay and world exploration with a good balance of combat players that preferably keep metagaming to a minimum and act like their character would even when its not convenient
Character(s) idea: I've been wanting to make a crafting obsessed character which is a dwarf artificer looking for any weird/rare materials to make fun items out of. I realize this would require a decent bit of homebrew items to be created as the campaign goes on but i am willing to play another chracter no problem if that doesnt work. It should be fairly balanced considering the crafting of a single item usually takes a couple sessions unless theres alot of "skipped time" in the game. I dont want to do this for powergaming, I don't care if these weird items are weaker than normal ones, have ridiculous drawbacks or are outright unusable most of the time. I would just like to explore that kind of lifestyle with a character.
I have several voices that I do for my characters since this idea is a dwarf ill be doing the good ole scottish accent but i have several others in case i need to bring a different char

Experience: almost 3 years. I have been DMing a long term campaign for just over a year.
What you are looking for in a game: I love RP and puzzles. I like really getting into the game, the narrative, and making combat more than just "I hit thing. Now thing is dead". I really enjoy CR and have always wanted to be part of the world of Exandria.
Character(s) idea: I am flexible. Mostly interested in casters and totally down to work with the DM to tie my background into the world or the story.
Experience: I've never played in a campain, but I'm a huge fan of CR so I should know whats going on.
What are you looking for in a game: Fairly freindly players who won't mind a more inexperianced player. Lots of rp with enough combat to make sense, but not constant combat.
Character Ideas: Zelv the Burnt, a red dragonborn who does good deeds in the hope of redeeming himself after a tragic accident with his brother.

A gunslinger fighter
A Vax style knife throwing rogue
I'd like to wait till I have a chance to talk to you about the campaign before deciding on character race, name and backstory as it would be great to have them a part of your world

I have created a sandbox and wait to see what mountains my players create or demolish.

What you are looking for in a game: I love a good roleplay element to a game. I'm always about exploring character and growth. I love the collaborative aspect of D&D and really connecting with others as well. Character creation is just something I am really drawn to and I love to live in the moment through a collaborative story.
Character(s) idea: Human cleric (Raven Queen)/warlock (Champion of Ravens/Vax'ildan), formerly part of Rexxentrum elite before falling in love with a Empire spy
Fallen asamair gunslinger/cleric, formerly lived in a border town and almost died in a conflict, woke up with a brand of a god on her arm and trying to get some answers

Hope to hear back from you soon!
oh boy as a history major/teacher and nerd my interest is piqued

What you are looking for in a game: heavy roleplay and world exploration with a good balance of combat
players that preferably keep metagaming to a minimum and act like their character would even when its not convenient
