Game: D&D 5e Group type: Online Experience: Veteran Location/Timezone: Maine, USA, EST Schedule: Thinking Saturdays, bi-weekly. Roles sought: 1-2 Players Game style: Balanced, but somewhat RP and Exploration heavy.
I'm a long time DM whose main game just became bi-weekly. I want to fill in the off day (Saturday) with a small-scale series of short stories that take place in a large city in my pseudo-grimdark world. It will focus heavily on a small party of characters and how their lives change when an extra-dimensional rift upsets the status quo in the city of Evershore.
I won't bore you with a lengthy descriptor of the setting here, but there's some things you should consider up front. It's low-magic, not in a way that cripples casting classes though. There are no elves, goblins, orcs, dragons, etc - I have a set of homebrew races that are essentially all differently evolved humans. You could call it low fantasy. The world itself is the same world I've DMd since I was 8, and has a completely different system of lore as opposed to standard DND. There are also not any monsters that you would ever recognize.
The game itself as I said will focus on a small party, only four people maximum. The premise will change slightly to accommodate player backstories, so instead I'll tell you thematically what the plot will be like. I want it to play sort of like a noire detective story with horror elements, episodically arranged into a series of 1 to 3 shots. Mysteries and puzzles will likely be prominent as the party is tasked with investigating a number of strange happenings surrounding the creation of an extra-dimensional rift.
If I was to rate this game on the three pillars of D&D (Combat, Exploration, Role-Play), I would give it a 6-8-7 respectively. I'm looking for players that can get in character and stay in character, as well as comprehend the rules well enough to pass turns quickly in combat. You don't have to be Shakespeare but if you are prone to making in depth character backstories and favor flavorful builds rather than powerful ones, you are the person I'm looking for.
Below is a small formatted application. You can either post a filled out application in the comments or you can send it to alacisdnd@gmail.com, where you can contact me directly with any questions etc. I don't really use this forum. This post isn't going to cover everything, but I like to do a thorough session 0 where we can get on the same page.

Hi! Absolutely love your approach to this story, I think it's an original and unorthodox way to tackle dark fantasy. I'm into it already. Here's the info you requested (also very helpful).

This sounds pretty cool. I am intrigued at the length you have built your world and specifically state that it doesnt hamstring spell casting classes. I have mostly played homebrew content based in forgotten realms. Just recently returned to playing DND online play I have been apart of some published content. I have never done a heavy investigative/detective storyline. I think it would be fun and challenging I would like to know more about the evolved human classes.

What role do you most often fill in a party?: I try to fill my role according to character class/race and stats.

What is your first choice solution to any given conflict?: depends on the character but I tend to try and RP it out.
