Hey folks! I’m posting this again so it gets more traction!
Hello, we (group of 4) are on the hunt for a DM. Most of us are brand new to the game and are looking for a creative and patient DM to help guide us on our journey.
We are looking for someone in the US, (preferably in the Eastern or Central time zone but that’s flexible), who is 18-21 years old.
We will be having our sessions online so a discord is required!
If you’d like to take a wack at being our DM please respond to this post with a little bit about yourself and your discord tag. We are looking forward to meeting you!
Experience is not a requirement! We’re just looking for someone to have a good time with, so even if you’re not the most experienced DM, if you’d like to try and run a game for us you are more than welcome to!
I have about a year of experience as both a DM and a player. I started by "having the Dungeon Master's Guide as my first character" and ran some games for a few of my friends, all of whom were either completely new or mostly new to the game. I'm 24, but not too far away from your ages. I'm based in the Eastern time zone.
I would describe my style as beginner-friendly. I'm rather new to roleplaying myself but I find it fun and a great way to enhance the story. Depending on your desires as a group, I can make combat strict to the rules, or I can put a thumb on the scale to make sure everyone has a good first experience. For inexperienced groups, I discourage PvP outside of specific scenarios (an enemy has charmed one of the players and they can be shaken out of it by taking damage, both players have voluntarily entered a gladiator-type competition, there is an important story/character reason why they disagree on something and come to blows, etc). I don't know all of D&D lore but I'm learning plenty of it and enjoying the opportunity to create different interpretations. I'll allow all official content as long as it fits with the setting and any home-brew that is properly balanced and appropriate for the setting (I can help you determine this). I require a Session 0 where we discuss what all you want out of your game, what your roleplaying boundaries are, and what you're interested in doing.
I am in my last year of law school so I would need some flexibility in scheduling if you want to do anything long-term. Maybe every other weekend. I would also need a commitment from players that you will do things like take notes, learning what your abilities do, giving at least some thought as to what you might want to do next session, etc. Of course I would always be able to answer questions and such, I just can't do the work of planning the campaign AND learning all of the wizard's spells or always reminding the barbarian to rage. I would also ask that you all be patient with me, as I have limited experience with running online games--either a virtual tabletop or theater of the mind would be a learning curve for me too.
All that said, I love this game and am always down to introduce more people to it! I'm happy to run a one-shot just to get your feet wet, or I also own Lost Mines of Phandelver, Dragon of Icespire Peak, and Tomb of Annihilation. Also equipped to do a few home-brew things, especially if you'd like to just try a few different scenarios (dungeon crawl one week, mystery the next, etc). If you are interested, shoot me a message either here or on Discord--I'm MeaningoftheLaw#8389.
