Location/Timezone: plays 24/7 via discord.Main window is 9-5pm (cst) but many times we like to play in the evenings in-between doing family things!
Schedule: please see above and below in my comments.
Roles sought: players (up to 4 more)
Looking for some players to start an always active 24/7 dedicated campaign via discord. After we complete it down the line I'll run other adventures!
This is set in the world of Exandria (from Critical Role) but you don't have to know anything about Exandria or Critical Role. I've listened to a little of it but am not super hard-core into it at all but I love the setting because it's mostly new, untouched and plenty of room to add my own stuff.
I'm looking to fill up to 4 more players currently but will play with at least 3.
Why am I doing this as paid?
I've been so against paid for so long but I've been hearing more and more about how this actually helps engage the players and keep them invested in your world. I've been spending a lot of time on campaigns and materials and I hope even a little bit helps offset that. A lot of people seem now willing to pay 5-100's for sessions so I figure this is basically an always-on active session so wanted it to be worth the effort.
About me?
I've been running games since about 2010 and have loved every second of it. I've had many groups and seen many styles of play and systems and feel I have learned a lot. I started doing pbp with some friends because we wanted more dnd. I figured - heck I would try some text-based stuff. I grabbed a generic dice roller and we made it work. That's been about 7 years now and I have learned many many different tricks to make things easier and more fun. I've grabbed tons of random people online, turned them into my real-life friends, and have gone through tons of campaigns and systems. Lots of those friends have gone on to run their own pbp text-based games now as well. I figured it was time now I go off and try and do it again with another new batch of prospects!
My most successful game was running two concurrent teams (A and B team) in the same shared active world on the same Discord server but they couldn't see each other. We ended up doing a dramatic group merge at the end of the campaign for a final villain (Avenger) level conflict. It was epic. They had many crossed paths, linked family issues, and so forth. Their plots were similar but separate. People swapped groups and changed alignments, it was nuts but amazing!
Tools Used:
We use discord for the chat. We have easy-to-follow rules for doing text and gameplay. You never really have to wait for your turn in RP and can always contribute to something.
Requiring:
• Be open to others
• Be kind
• No DnD Experience required. I can teach.
• Willing to use DnDBeyond as my campaign is in there and we will use Avrae discord bot to link our sheets.
• Be active and use Discord for all our gameplay
• Looking for adult players. That doesn't mean to need to be a certain age but adult topics will come up periodically everyone should be mature and open and friendly at all times. Basically looking for people in the same situation as me and I want this to be a long-term friendship, not just a DnD group!
• Central, mountain or pacific time zones preferred since it's so late when we play. The USA or Canada, please. English speaking group.
Time:
Pinned Play Rules In order to keep the story moving, I wanted to put in writing kind of the method I had been using in my head when creating this group and running the game.
Below are the (main) timelines for playing.
Weekdays During the Day: 8am-5pm (CST) Response rates within an hour preferably. Weekdays 5PM+ and Weekends: Play as you can. If multiple people are on and willing we can move at a faster rate by skipping or doing more RP events.
(All the above is subject to change depending on day, work and family schedule for everyone. These are just the GENERAL guidelines in order to make a smooth gameplay experience. The 1 hour response rate doesn't mean you have to check every hour. It just means generally we can move to the below options in order to bypass or process your turn. I would love to say I as the GM have to follow these rules but I am somewhat exempt as I have to run the whole campaign and it's important that I stay abreast of what is happening.)
How to Handle response delays
• Skipping init
• Moving init down
• Playing your turn for you based on your current link to your character sheet. If a move is obvious like a death save then a GM can process it after 15 min.
• Key critical story elements we won't bypass. We will just wait to continue playing
Type of game
• I generally play a little goofy and don't take myself too seriously but I for sure have intense and dramatic moments.
• I as a DM try and flesh out the world and make it unique while bringing in your backstories as much as possible.
• As a DM I love intense combat encounters and I don't normally pull my punches. That said we have plenty of RP sessions and encounters. I roll most things out in an open channel for all to see.
If interested please fill out this form and we'll look forward to playing with you!
