Game: D&D 5e but home brewed. Group preferred: Would like to do it online or in person but I'm not sure how to do it online. Experience: New. I played D&D once (The starting Mines adventure) With three people including our DM and it was fun, but the DM was pretty bad and they did an awful job explaining it. Have watched some Critical Role (Episode 25 of the first campaign I think) and the celebrity one Matt Mercer did with one of the Suite Life twins. It made me realize that I really love this game. Location/Timezone: I like in Frankfort KY and I'm on Eastern Standard Time. Availability: I'd prefer to do a weekend schedule as I'm available at any time after 6PM on Friday until 9 PM Sunday. But I'm available from 6-9 M-Th after work. Preferred role: I would like to be the DM as I think that's a role I'd be relatively suited for. But I am new, so I'd like at least two experienced players to guide me through being a good one. Or if an experienced DM wants to take it away then I could totally take a backseat and be a character. Game style: I am looking to do a casual, mostly home brewed campaign. I've already created a parthenon and the realm of Teloryn
If I still have your attention some things you may need to know about me. I have recently gotten back into D&D after a rather shaky beginning due to a bad D.M. I want to get back into playing, and having fun while doing it, but I have no idea what I'm doing or how to go about learning what I'm doing. Or even how to join a group? A guy at my work has a group already together and it sounds like so much fun when we talk about it. I'd be interested in just being a player. I know I need the experience, but I did a lot of acting in high school and college, and I fancy myself a fantasy novelist (Finished two books but they aren't ready to be seen by anyone yet) so I know how to improvise and create a story that can keep moving. I do roleplay on the Nanowrimo site with a bunch of other authors, so I am used to some roleplaying techniques and having to learn how to bounce off of others.
If this sounds like something you'd be interested in joining, please let me know and thank you in advance for considering it.
Or if you know of any group willing to tutor a young half elf, then let me know that as well because I'd love to join a group.
I'd love to join! New player looking for a group as well! I've been binge watching the critical role campaigns and have since been excited to play a campaign of my own! My schedule is very flexible and I'm in EST
(Very new to the game so an experienced player may benefit our group greatly haha)
Comment on A/V - Suggestion - roll20 is great for managing most aspects of the game but my experience is that you would be better off splitting out audio/video to another program. This would give you back-up should one or the other fail durign your session. less likely both would go out at the same time.
There are plenty of options but I have used the following so far:
Google Hangouts - currently our favorite for A/V - simple and free Discord - extremely popular option and by all accounts should be considered seriously Skype - sigh. I so wanted this to work but we found that the length of the call seem to trigger some bad behavior - they continue to fix bugs but I would rate this lower the discord or hangouts roll20 for a/v - as noted above we found this option not great if you lose connectivity - and roll20, as great as it (I am a pro subscriber), we just found it challenging for a/v and it turned out better to split it out for fail-over capabilities
I've never tried discord before, but would be willing to give it a shot. We could use Roll20 and Discord. Does Google Hangouts have a/v options? I would much rather do everything over a/v instead of typing.
Fourth_Fool, of course you can still join! What's your experience like, if you don't mind me asking?
And hey, for all who are seriously interested in playing, send me a message so we can work out character logistics.
And time frame. How does Friday or Saturday nights sound to everyone? We should nail down the day and then the time. Next week I get paid, and I'll be buying the DM book (I own the players handbook on D&D Beyond but want the hard copy for the DM) so we can start as soon as I get the book.
For online events (which are more easily accessed) You are going to want to use discord.
Im interested in becoming part of this campaign, and will be willing a to make a new 5e character for it. I only ask about the homebrew content. how versatile are you. I personally like to play a campaign with aspects of traditional 5e, and homebrew. For example the kind of homebrew I like to play is one where (for example) the elf race gets access to a small range of spells as a racial bonus. Ones I dont like to play are where a Barbarian can sling spells left and right. I like to play homebrew that makes sense if you know what I mean. another example of something I'd find quite fun, is if a Dragonborn could charge up their breath weapon as a Melee attack, using it like a fist, or on their weapon. one I wont play is a Sorcerer having a hit die of 12.
Homebrew content can be fun, but only when It's used correctly.
I have a couple more questions
Do you need a map?
What level would the characters be? (standards are 1, 3, 5, 10, and 20, with 1, 3, and 5 being use most often)
All in all, I'm interested in your campaign, and would appreciate if you would shoot me a reply sometime soon.
Of course! I'd like a group of like 4 or 5. Seven tops.
Saturday evenings would be perfect for me.
I'm starting to plan the full campaign and figure out logistics. I would like to plan parts of it around character backstories, so please PM me with information or questions.
I have decided that characters will start out at Level 3.
Okay guys, if you are interested in joining the campaign we are having a "Session Zero" this Saturday (4/9/2018). Reply below or message me knowing what times you are available this Saturday and I will confirm the time in this thread as well as PM anyone who messaged(s) me. This Session Zero is going to be us going over character sheets, times, and any pertinent information needed. Once the time is confirmed I'll link the Discord information as well.
Don’t forget today at 7 PM EST we have our Session Zero meeting to discuss everything. I will be in the discord chat off and on all day, and will be there at 6:45 to greet you all.

(Very new to the game so an experienced player may benefit our group greatly haha)
Of course the two of you can join!
Does anyone know a way a way to handle the video logistics of doing it online?
Maybe use this website? https://roll20.net
That does look like a good site. Would every one be up for using it?

The GWP (German Wirehair Pointer fan)
Hey, I was curious if you're still looking for players. Cause i would LOVE to participate in a home-brew.
Thank you GWP!
