This will be a new campaign for 4 to 6 Players based on Dungeons & Dragons: Neverwinter which is a free-to-play massively multiplayer online roleplaying game developed by Cryptic Studios and published by Perfect World Entertainment.
This is an open-ended campaign which will be based out of Neverwinter beginning in the year 1479 DR. The campaign will be all up and down the Sword Coast. Possibilities exist for adventures from Icewind Dale to the Jungles of Chult. Although I will be trying to keep the story within the Cannon of Faerun, this is Dungeons and Dragons, and the rule of fun will trump cannon at times.
I’m an old Dungeon Master just learning to Navigate the VTT (Virtual Tabletop) world. I am looking for serious players 18+. The campaign is open to players of all experience levels including new players who wish to learn.
Players will be required to use/do the following:
Commit to one 4-hour session starting at 12:00 AM UTC Thursday’s. For North and South American people this is Wednesday evenings starting at 5:00 PM Pacific, 6:00 PM Mountain, 7:00 PM Central, 8:00 PM Eastern.
Create an interesting character with a loose background story that will allow for possible tie ins with the campaign story threads.
Play their character using D&D Beyond. You must have an account setup. If you are reading this forum, chances are you already have this.
Use the Beyond20 application in Chrome or Firefox to link to Roll20.
Roll20 will be used as the VTT for Maps and Tokens. You must have an active Roll20 account, this is free to setup.
Use Discord as this will be the primary form for communication. We will be using voice chat as well as share files, images, and have chat discussions.
Have a working microphone and headset or a system which does not cause audio feedback while playing. Webcams are optional, I personally don’t plan to use mine.
Session Notes:
A brief 15-minute break will occur approximately halfway through each session.
If an individual player is unable to attend, the session will still be run. It will be up to the player to give a background story as to why their character wasn’t present. Occasional absenteeism is understandable with no hard feelings about it. Life happens.
Players who consistently have attendance issues will be removed from the campaign and new player or players will be added if the group wants. Again, no hard feelings but if you are not able to commit to the time please do not apply.
General Rules:
Be kind. This is an 18+ campaign and the possibility of people saying or doing offensive things is real. If you are sensitive and have triggers this is likely not the best fit for you.
Having said that purposefully offensive players who can not maintain a respectful level of behavior will be removed from the campaign. In this situation there will likely be hard feelings. If you get kicked you will have done something to deserve it and likely have been given a chance to apologize and correct your behavior.
Thank you to all who apply. I will be conducting in person voice discussion with suitable applicants in discord. It would also be my intention to run a mini-individual session 0 with people to discuss their character and do a quick test to make sure they have a suitable level of knowledge in the use of D&D Beyond, Beyond20, Roll20, and Discord. New players who are not familiar with the mentioned tools can still be accepted based on their attitude and willingness to learn.
After finding a suitable party of players I would like to begin the first official group 0 session this Wednesday Oct 19 7:00 PM Central Standard Time (Thursday Oct 20 12:00 AM UTC).
If you made it to the end, congratulations. Please reply with a brief outline of you character ideas. If you just type a simple message like “I’d like to apply” you might not be a good fit for this campaign, and I likely will not respond to you. I put a bit of effort into this post, so I’m looking for similar serious players. This doesn’t mean serious players who don’t understand that ultimately, we are doing this to have fun!
Suitable applicants can expect to receive a message sent from me with my Discord username so we can talk. Accepted applicants with then be given an invite to the campaign Discord Server where the links to the D&D Beyond campaign, Roll20 game, etc. are located.
Hello~ I am interested in joining. I don't really have a character concept in mind at the time but I enjoy playing pretty much anything so I can adapt to the rest of the party appropriately. My Thursdays are free and my timezone is GMT +3 so this is fits in pretty comfortably. If there is anything you would like to ask my discord is Odi#4522
Hey Dan. I was passing by Beyond, looking for a game, and yours sounds more up my alley. And since I'm a long time player and DM, I wanted something a bit more solid. It's hit or miss usually on Roll20, which is my usual haunt for games, but lately they've been subpar. I'm always the guy that shows up and gets let down when others don't consider the party as a whole, and the DM as well, when they don't show up, so attendance is never an issue. I'll need to brush back up on Faerun's current status, been more involved with Exandria as of late, but as long as we're not using 4e ruleset like Neverwinter, I'm happy to join in lol.
Here are a couple ideas for some characters that might liven up your campaign. No worries on min/maxing from me, the RP and story is what I'm interested in. I have a plethora of others, based on whether others are steadfast in playing certain classes. I go with the flow and can play anything with competence:
Name: Steps-Through-Mirror's-Reflection
Class: Monk (Peace)/Cleric
Background: Far Wanderer
Alignment: Lawful Neutral
A Brief Summary: Steps awoke knowing only one thing, that a kind voice told him to feel out the world, learn how those of such short lifespans contemplate their mortality. His own life, paused for some reason he didn't understand, did cause some concern. Being a tabaxi did bring him joy, he knew that at least, but something was strange, unfamiliar. His fur was gone, his claws now stained black, and a mask now covered his face, yet his senses were as sharp as ever. Why did he not hear his heart beating beneath his robes? Who possessed that kindly voice, nudging him along? "Oh well," his only trepidation melting away, as he calming moved along the path before him.
Name: Arcuri Frosthallow
Class: Armorer Artificer
Background: Folk Hero
Alignment: Lawful Good
A Brief Summary: Arcuri, the mayor of a quaint mountainside village established by his forebearer, a mighty silver dragon known as The Hallowed Frost, knew only peace and hard work. His intellect helped him create devices to make the rustic village's life easier, seeing how they were quite sequestered up in the ranges. Though his sire had passed the torch of leadership to him 20 years prior, he was feeling a pull to learn more about his arcane knowledge of strange metalwork. Even though he would miss the humble villagers that counted on him, he knew that he could do more if he gained a better grasp what was happening to him. Thus he descended down the slopes, passing his leadership temporarily to his subordinate, and struck out into the wide world.
Hello! Me and two other friends of mine are looking for a game to join, after our previous attempt to join a campaign ended up falling flat before session 0. all three of us do have character concepts from that, but might change them a bit to fit more into the setting. we all have years of experience with D&D, as well as experience with roll20 and dndbeyond.
My Character Concept:
Name: Taklak Shibbak Race: Kobold Class: Zealot Barbarian Description: a short Grey Kobold, with several old scars and wounds. Wears a fingerless crude leather glove on his left hand, as well as a worn out silver armlet. Summary: Before Taklak hatched, he was stolen from his tribe, and born into a cruel life of being someone else's slave. years of toiling away to haphazard work and severe mistreatment, Taklak longed to be free, but knew he couldn't take his master on directly. thus, he prayed, to any god that would answer him, for a chance at life he never got. on one fortunate night, his luck finally struck; as he was walking by his master's room, he noticed the door unlocked, and his master asleep at his desk. Taklak took this chance and snuck up on him, using a nearby item to blitz attack his master. Taklak quickly grabbed what he could and fled, managing to leave the city and travel through the woods before stumbling upon another town, hoping for new opportunities, but on high alert of any dangers, keeping to himself as to not attract attention.
im a fellow long time dm looking to finally be a player, i have two grand character ideas that iv been wanting to play.
Name: Krell Othradorn
Class: Fighter
Background: Folk Hero
Alignment: Neutral Good
A Brief Summary: spending his childhood in an orphanage, he learned quickly what type of man he would be. starting with brawls with bullies, he knew he had only one lesson to count on-to fight so no one else has too. when he began his teen years his home was adopted by a veteran and retired warrior, he took all those who had a fighting spirit, bullies and all, and trained them to be true champions. by the time he was an adult, his fellow fighters were better than the average town guard. now, deciding his own fate against the wishes of his veteran and adopted father, he goes about his duty of the people awaiting for adventure to call
Name: Oliver V. Va'Druune
Class: Wizard
Background: Acolyte
Alignment: Neutral
A Brief Summary: born within the a family of morticians, Oliver thought he'd live a life of dull and calm sorts. until one day a person with full body markings filled with artful and dreary details came onto his slab. no information came about this dead stranger, no file or clue, yet waiting did nothing good for Oliver's curiosity. as he performed his duties, the marking that caught his eye had now demanded his attention. such a studied mind needed to know more and with such an engaging start had also been the end of his peaceful life. what seemed like days were only the few hours it took for him to absorb what he needed from what was printed on flesh. by the deep of night his mind was racing with forbidden knowledge of the dark arcane, unable to turn back and no time to do what lawful the doors to his work broke forth with a stampede of witch hunters gave chase. in a blink of an eye, fueled by fear, he ran. the cold of that chilled night never left left him, no matter how warm that morning sun graced his escape.
Hello Daniel, Your campaign sounds interesting, although I have never actually played Neverwinter. I have used all the tools that you have listed other than Beyond20 but I'm sure I could pick it up quickly. I have a couple of character ideas floating around my head at the moment. One being a version of an "Elf" (the movie) type character where the PC is a variant human raised by dwarves not knowing that he himself is not one, until he is told by his surrogate dad that he isnt and needs to search for his own family. I like campaigns with equal amount of roleplay, puzzles, and combat. I am American so would be playing wednesday nights which works for me. Thanks for reading and hoping to hear from you.
Hi, I'm interested in joining. I have little experience with D&D having only played one campaign (I'm at least familiar with the rules) As such this is the first time using roll20, D&D beyond, and discord. I'm a quick learner and would love the chance to join.
Character idea
name: Grimrik
race: High-elf
Class: wizard
Background: Grimrik was born to a noble family and known only the life of the wealthy. He is used to being catered to and as such never really learned to take care of himself. He has however come to loathe this way of life becoming boring and predictable. He longed for a life of adventure and seeing the world from an average point of view. One day he did just that and packed a bag. He left home with only essentials in an attempt to find adventure.
