Game: D&D 5e Group type: Online - discord + roll20 (charsheets can be made in DndBeyond or Roll20) Experience: open Location/Timezone: 9pm CST every wed - 3 hour sessions (session 0 on 10/26/22) Schedule: Weekly (wed 9pm cst) Roles sought: 2 Players (we have 3, want to make a full group of 5 players) Game style: Good mix of RP and Combat, it is a pre-built module but SKT does have opportunity to explore and chase down side quests
About our table:
I'm a fairly new DM, most of my experience comes from lower level campaigns. Some things I am figuring out so patience and understanding is very helpful.
Existing players have a mix of some goofy moments, along with serious RP. So, please be ready to enjoy some laid back attitudes with moments of intensity where needed.
I find a Clear separation between IC and OC is helpful, and thus try and foster that environment.
The most important rule is "don't be a jerk", we treat every one with respect and expect it to be returned to us.
Please only apply if you are prepared to make DnD wed night a Priority. RL > DnD so we'll understand, but well it sucks when people can't make it.
Char Creation
Start at lvl 5 (campaign will go to 11 or 12)
Point Buy
Backgrounds: There are 5 factions to choose from you can integrate into your character's back story if you'd like, but we'll try not to have the party be spread out among more than 2 to 3 of them. You can just be of a mercenary mindset looking for cash or the standard unaffiliated.
We'll use discord chat to fine tune the selection and do any coordinating with backgrounds/class with your fellow party members as desired.
A magic item that is: Either a +1 simple/martial weapon OR +1 armor OR a magic staff of Defense
450gp, and normal starting equipment
Armor / weapon upgrades from starting equipment must be purchased with that 450 gold.
Spell components likewise come from that 450gp
There will be a some "goodies", that the party will divide up at session 0 to bring everyone's treasure level to what one would expect of lvl 5 char, and the party may trade and cooperate at that time to help members afford upgrades ad needed/desired.
If you'd like to join our table, please answer these simple questions in a post below. I'll close the thread Friday, and invite 2 to discord server and see how it goes :) thanks in advance for your interest!
1) What is your least favorite part of playing DnD (besides finding a group, that's cheating :-p ) ?
2) What is your favorite part?
3) What part of your play are you trying to work on / improve ? how can we help ?
4) can you commit to every wed? at 9pm cst? are you sure?
bonus) What's an annoying thing DMs do without realizing that I must never do?
30, San Diego, CA. Love the thought that you've put into your post and SKT sounds like a lot of fun! I've had some experience playing on Roll20 during peak COVID and I'd love the opportunity to play with some peeps.
1) What is your least favorite part of playing DnD (besides finding a group, that's cheating :-p ) ?
- Lack of investment or bickering. It's easy for things to bother us as people and for that to permeate into the game, so it's important for peeps to have a mutual understanding to leave things at the table, to take certain things in stride, and to try and just believe in each other and think positively of their tablemates. Ultimately, we all want to have fun and no one wants to hurt any feelings. If something comes up, address in character or address after the game with the DM, but don't ruin the game.
2) What is your favorite part?
- The creative and wonderful ways in which people solve problems never ceases to amaze me. You could spend 10 hours building a character, but if you don't know how to use your terrain, how to promote continuity in your character, it can be difficult to persist.
3) What part of your play are you trying to work on / improve ? how can we help ?
- I'd like to improve "the voice." I want to remain consistent in my characters and to build reactions that I can be truthful with. I want to remain accountable for the character I've built.
4) can you commit to every wed? at 9pm cst? are you sure?
Yes!
bonus) What's an annoying thing DMs do without realizing that I must never do?
- Rule of cool should persist above all, and sometimes making a quick, "most fair" decision is favorable over pouring over a handbook/guide unless it's massively important.
- Be persistent and consistent, and if there is pushback on a ruling that you've made, stick to your guns, or make it clear that the game must not be interrupted for just any reason. It's okay to say no.
This sounds very exciting and interesting and I would love to join.
1) What is your least favorite part of playing DnD (besides finding a group, that's cheating :-p ) ?
My least favorite part of DnD is when people try and rules lawyer everything because that makes nothing fun when you can't have fun by doing something stupid.
2) What is your favorite part?
interacting with the other players to create an exciting and interesting story to build form. Developing great stories to be told along with the stupid ones, like if someone thinks its a good idea to cast fireball on their team because it will kill the enemy.
3) What part of your play are you trying to work on / improve ? how can we help ?
I'm trying to work on getting more developed into my characters and to focus more attention into the story because i lack attention
4) can you commit to every wed? at 9pm cst? are you sure?
I can commit to Wednesday. I can commit to 9pm cst. am i sure? I sure am sure I'm sure.
bonus) What's an annoying thing DMs do without realizing that I must never do?
Forced railroading. I understand slight railroading to help develop and progress the plot, but over the top railroading of this is the only route to get to the end is no fun to creativity.
36, Calgary, AB. SKT sounds awesome and I have a couple characters that might go well with the party and would be very interested in joining. I have played quite a bit online so I am comfortable using roll20/dndbeyond. I am Raegear#8845 on discord if that is easiest to communicate.
1) What is your least favorite part of playing DnD (besides finding a group, that's cheating :-p ) ?
Rules lawyering would have to be the worst thing i can think of as it derails what is going on and can really kill the moments in a fun fight or roleplaying moment.
2) What is your favorite part?
The endless choices and ways oeioke play through encounters. even running the same encounter can end up with completely different results and i love it.
3) What part of your play are you trying to work on / improve ? how can we help ?
Staying true to the character I create without taking the spotlight away from others. Flat out call me out if I am stepping on toes or hogging the spotlight.
4) can you commit to every wed? at 9pm cst? are you sure?
Yes I am mountain time so I should be able to make almost any wednesday evening. DnD is one of my favorite things so missing it is not something I like to do without good reason
bonus) What's an annoying thing DMs do without realizing that I must never do?
I usually DM so its hard to say as I wouldn't realize it myself XD The DMs roll is a hard one so I understand.
