Game: D&D 5e, Waterdeep: Dragon Heist Group type: Online via dndbeyond, roll20, and discord (typing only, no voice or video) Experience: I've played and dm'd for 2 and a half years. Location/Timezone: EDT Schedule: Biweekly on Saturday afternoons from 1pm to 4pm starting November 8th. Roles sought: 5 players, any/all skill/experience levels welcome, 18+ only please. Game style: Semi-hardcore, a good mix of text-based roleplaying, combat and exploration.
One thing unique about my DM style is that I welcome "rule lawyers," so long as they keep it respectful, back it up with page number references to the sourcebooks, but also let me ultimately decide whether I want to follow that rule or not. Sometimes for the sake of the general flow of the game, I go with what feels right, as I think most would agree is ideal. By doing this I'm becoming better acquainted with the official rules while also refining my personal approach to DM'ing. However, if you're going to be a rules lawyer, I would also prefer experienced players who have at least read the PHB (player's handbook) and have played for at least a few months, preferably longer.
As for creating characters, anything in the PHB, DMG, XGtE, Tasha's, Sword Coast Guide, or the new Mordenkainen book is permitted.
If you've read this far, thank you - I'd love to hear from you :) But before you reply, please take a moment to seriously ask yourself whether or not you'll be able to commit to 3 hours biweekly, as it's kind of a bummer to both myself and other players to invest a lot of time and effort into a game only for others to bail last minute. As a DM, I've been pretty reliable to players both past a present and appreciate others attempting the same. Ofc life happens from time to time but if you're consistently absent or late it makes it hard to plan faction quests, side quests, and personal quests pertaining to your character that are also intertwined with the main story.
Sorry for the long post, but for such a long campaign, I figured it was a good idea to put as much thought into it as possible (I've been putting a lot of time into prep lately and hope it's worth it :) ) so again, if you read all that, big thank you - if you've thought it over and are definitely both interested and free to commit, please send me a private message telling me what my stance is on "rule lawyers," which books I mentioned regarding character creation, and how long I'm suggesting for our biweekly sessions. If I could get five people to do that for me, thereby proving to me that they read the whole post, then we're golden. :)
One last note - but this is kind of a given in any dnd game really, but the number one rule in all sessions is respect each other. Pretty simple. Any form of hatred, be it racism/sexism/homophobia/ableism/transphobia, etc, will not be tolerated. Also, no politics please. We're all just here to play dnd and have fun. :)
On another final note - I absolutely love detailed backstories!
I'll PM you with a sample backstory. Just an example, very likely not what I would play.

If still looking for players, I'm available, but will need some help as I last played 2nd Edition years ago.

Correction: Meant to say start date Saturday November 5th, not 8th as that makes no sense.
