Hey, I'm a veteran GM but new to DnD 5e that has been running a spelljammer game on and off again for a few months. Sadly, one of our players had to quit recently due to exciting new job prospects, so we are left with the unenviable job of replacing him, but there is a problem. You see, the game is kinda a big epic campagin that is based around the main characters, so loosing him kinda hurts the story a lot.
So, we are looking for a player to 'take over' his spot. You do not have to take over his character sheet or anything, or play him exactly like the old player did, but it would be great if you would be willing to take on his name and general backstory (arcane researcher from the Sword Coast of Toril).
I'm looking for a player who is willing to be involved in a long campaign. We meet somewhat irregularly online at 7:30 PM Fridays (West Coast Time) and we have three other players (an arcanist, a bard, and a monk.) There are a few houserules I've implemented but nothing really game-changing.
I realize this is a big ask, but if you are up for it, just reply to this thread with a little paragraph about yourself as a player and your preferences/likes for the game. Preferences will be given to veteran players (as a GM I need a bit of help with the mechanics of DnD from time to time) and to Forever GMs (I've been stuck as a Forever GM, before, so I know how it feels, and I love to give those guys a chance to play.) Currently the party is level 4
Alright, this post gives just enough information to be intriguing while still leaving tons of questions.
What form does arcane researcher take in your campaign? Is it just the Sage background, a general story thing, a homebrew thing, or something else entirely?

Also, how frequently does irregularly mean?
Our guy was a wizard and was pretty good at arcana. In his background, shortly before the adventure, he was hired to do some magical formula work which was (for a level 1) extremely challenging for a higher-level mage trying to craft a magic item. So long as your guy is good at arcana and likes studying that stuff you should fit in fine. So, like, an Acana cleric, maybe a warlock, or even an arcana cleric would all be fine.
We also plan to meet weekly, but frequently things get in the way like birthdays or work or whatnot. So in practice we on average meet every other week, though it is more like, we'll meet for two weeks in a row, than have three weeks off, then meet two weeks in a row, then have a week off, then meet for a week, etc.
Hmmm sounds like a Knowledge Cleric or Artificer (if they are allowed) could fit well, too. I love the idea, but unfortunately I run a game every other Friday currently.
I'd be interested in this if it's still open! But I'm essentially a brand new player been trying to play for a long while just have not found a group. On the plus side I have no qualms playing the character as is! I think I'd enjoy 50/50 rp combat but I'm new so that's not really a requirement or anything. Anyway let me know! Names Ryan :)
