Basics: Looking for 4-5 players familiar with 5e to play online in a home-brew world Fridays, at 7pm, EST. We will use a combination of Discord voice chat, dndbeyond, and owlbear. In a perfect world session 0 will be Nov. 18th, if enough players have been found. Mostly using PHB for character creation. Very reasonable exceptions might apply.
Campaign Pitch: Each party member begins the campaign as a Paladin Initiate (apprentice) in the mountain village of Snowfell, which is nestled on the upper slope of the Scorched Peak. The village is rather remote, but the population is far from rural - it is comprised mostly of dragonborn, and a few other hardy folk. A half orc tribe, occasionally troublesome but mostly harmless dwells nearby, and a friendly nomadic Aaracokra tribe migrates back to the region every summer, bringing an easy opportunity for trade. At the top of Scorched Peak lies the monastery, and great library, of the Order of the Stars, a sect of Paladins tasked with protecting the immense knowledge of the world, and it's origins. Several dozen paladins faithfully guard it.
All party members begin as a mult-class - they have two 'free' levels of Paladin, because they are Paladin Initiates - Paladins in training in the Order of the Stars, who currently live in Snowfell in a small barracks together, and who train together as a team 8 days a week with one off day for recreation the last 2 (each week has ten days, each month has 3 week cycles). The team is sent on various missions by the Order to prepare them for the day they take their oaths. Each player can choose their "real class", which they start out at level 1 as, and will continue to level up in.
The campaign begins with 3-4 sessions of "prologue" where the party roleplays their weekends in the village, and goes on training missions as Paladin Initiates. The real campaign starts when disaster strikes the Order and it is up to the players to take on the mantle of responsibility that originally fell to the Paladins of the Order of Stars.
What I Want (And About Me): I'm in my early 30's, male, and mostly want a relaxed, easy, thematic campaign that is story oriented, but character driven. I expect it to be 50% roleplay, 25% combat, 25% mystery/investigation. I have a couple of years of DM'ing experience, am currently DM'ing a different campaign that has been going on for 6 months, and am looking for something a little different to add variety. I want players who are easy going, gel well together, - are okay with interpretation of rules - and who know their character sheet better than I do. I mostly want players who like the 'story buy in' and are willing to play and prepare a backstory of a "Paladin Initiate" who has 2 levels in Paladin in addition to whatever their real class is going to be. I'm not the best artist so I often use theater of the mind, or draw something basic on graph paper and upload it to owlbear.
Anybody can apply if you can commit to the day and time, and applicants will be screened and then contacted via discord for a short conversation/interview to see if we are on the same page. If you apply please also comment on this post and let me know, but it's not mandatory if you don't have a username.
