I am the acting liaison between our group and hopefully a super fun, easy going Dungeon Master who will be so gracious enough to let us explore and influence a beautifully crafted world or a favorite module. Regardless of whether we manage to catch your interest, thank you so much for stopping by and we wish you happy gaming!
The Basics
Medium: Roll20 (Map) & Discord (Voice) Language: Exclusively English Time-zone: Central Standard Time Time: Starting from 5 p.m. and ideally lasting at least three hours, possibly more. Preferred Genre(s): We are completely open, but one player did mention a slight craving for a darker / gritty setting! Type of Game: [✓] Sandbox, [X] Railroad or [✓] Mix Campaign Length*: [✓] Short Term, [✓] Long Term or [✓] One-Shot
* We actually do want a long term game, but it might be best to start with something short and sweet so you can determine if we are the right fit for you and vice versa without any long term commitments. Consider the check marks on Short Term or One-shot an understanding you might want a trial period that is easy to end on amiable terms if we do not mesh well together.
A Little About Our Group
Experience: While a few of us are more experienced than others in table top games in general (and specifically 5e), we are all equally passionate about the game and have good chemistry with each other. We have one very new player who will need some gentle guidance from yourself or (with your permission) from the more experienced members of the group. We have a player who has been playing table top games for a little under a year who is a very quick learner. The remaining two players have years of experience in either 5e and / or various other systems.
Game-style(s): Our new player really enjoys combat but is getting more into roleplaying. The rest of us seem to enjoy a bit more focus on roleplay but by no means shy away from a meaningful and challenging fight! I'd say our ideal would be 60/40 leaning more heavily towards roleplay; but, of course, story direction and decisions made by the party will directly influence the percentages. It's okay if there isn't combat for long stretches, just like it's okay if we end up in a maze filled with terrifying and hostile monsters for a few session as we fight to survive.
I love how creative our group can be. It makes me so happy when someone comes up with a quirky plan and it comes to fruition. I also love it when we fail in the most spectacular way. It's all drama and story consequences and I live for it. I will admit that some of our members can be chaotic at times, all in the name of fun. We are not murder hobos, however, and are vehemently against killing off innocent NPCs or players without proper permission / discussion / obvious roleplay based motivation beforehand (or we happen to be playing the cartoon villains for a one-shot).
No one in our group is particularly great at riddles or puzzles, but if this is an aspect of the game you love we will.. try not to make you cringe too much.
Comfort Zones: We're all adults (over the age of 18), and no one objects to rich, gritty, realistic and dark worlds and story threads any more than a light, feel good coming of age story. All we ask is that things are presented in a tasteful way. Giving us a visual of the situation without going into explicit content with innuendos is fine, as is a fade to black when relevant. We appreciate your understanding in this!
Expectations: I am a firm believer in a session zero or at least a nice meet and greet before we officially begin, both for your benefit as well as ours. We do not want to waste your time if we are not the right fit for you, because your enjoyment is just as important as ours. Below is a quick, incomplete list of a few of them.
* House Rules: If you have any house rules regarding how key mechanics work, please let us so we can make informed decisions on character creation. We aren't all a bunch of hard core min-maxers, but it should be known if something we're focusing on (such as Tools or a specific skill) will not work as written. On the other side, if you offer options such as tested homebrew or unearthed arcana, we'd love to explore content that you approve of, and knowing that before we make characters might give us time to come up with compelling backstories.
* Pet Peeves: If you have any pet peeves, please let us know beforehand. No one wants to intentionally annoy you, but we might if you keep it to yourself until you can not handle it anymore. We'll do the same!
* Rules Debates: This sort of coincides with house rules, because 5th edition is so open ended about how things actually function. To avoid heated debates, I think we can all agree that a DMs final call should be respected so we can all move on and continue the game. However, we would appreciate it if our future Dungeon Master would be open to a discussion on why said player(s) feels it can logically be interpreted differently sometime after game and before the next session. Not to argue, but rather offer perspective and air out any feelings on the matter in a healthy and mature way.
* Romance: We have a few players that are hopeless romantics, we hope that any future Dungeon Master will be okay with this aspect of the game so long as we monitor ourselves (if it makes sense to be in one to begin with) to not make it all encompassing, distasteful and unrealistic. If you as a Dungeon Master are personally against NPC & Player or Player & Player romances due to the nature of the current story (rather than over-all), please let us know. Otherwise, slow burns with subtle pinning are a personal favorite.
Availability: The only day every single one of us is able to play is between 5 p.m. and no later than 10 p.m. on Tuesdays. We have an active military player and a player with undisclosed medical problems that may or may not cause us to miss a game or have to cater to a long term absence. Any potential Dungeon Master deserves to know this in case that is a deal breaker. We have carried on with sessions missing a person before, and all understand that life happens. We will try to give at least 24 hour notice barring an emergency.
Roster: While we are coming in as a party of five*, that does not mean we wouldn't be delighted to meet one or two new people you might be bringing with you should we turn out to be a right fit for your style. The larger the group, the more difficult it is to give everyone a place to shine, so no more than six or seven total players would be ideal. We are LGBT+ friendly.
Contacting us
If you would like to proceed with meeting us, please leave a message below (I will try and check regularly through out the day to get back to you as soon as possible) or message one of our other members on Discord: Makedus#2785 (preferred method).
Thank you again for your time, and I hope you have a superb rest of your day.
I have been DMing for over a year and a half now, and would love to meet your group!
I have been working on a completely homebrewed Campaign full of lore and cities, I just need to find the right group to run through it. It is not exactly grim dark, but with a few tweaks, I'm sure I could incorporate that kind of atmosphere!
I am also in CST and available, but if it is on Tuesdays, I would not be able to start until around 6:30 or 7 PM
I would be happy to run a few one-shots with you guys, and see if you'd be interested in doing a lengthier campaign!
Hey Forett, It's so nice to meet you! VallasVowed had messaged a few minutes before you, so we're setting up a meet and greet with him right now. If things don't work out, are you okay if I message you for contact information so we can have the pleasure of meeting you too?
