A few notes about my DM style. My favorite way to help players achieve their goals in the moment is to ask, "What is the intention of what your character is trying to do?" that way we can work towards their goal rather than creating a gatcha moment. I am comfortable running most themes, from low fantasy to high fantasy and make available all optional rules in the campaign including rules like flanking and disarming. I like to work cooperatively with player to help them achieve their shared campaign goals.

I have introduced hundreds of player to DnD throughout my time in the RPGA and organized play and would be happy to do that same for your group of players.
