OK, so I think the next step is adding me on Discord so I can get a server set up. Deathangel2890#4341
DO NOT MAKE CHARACTERS! This is a trap hole a lot of new players fall into. Reason I say this? What's my campaign? What races am I allowing? What classes? How are stats being done? What's the lore of the world? Until you can answer those questions, is there a reason to make a character? :)
But, yeah. Character creation will be done as a group. Provided we can get a time and day that works for everyone.
Um...I don't have socials sadly my parents are very overprotective with me very much so. But I already made characters because I know how to play D&D when it comes to the board game but computer or online no. I just need help with learning how to play online a bit....it's very confusing to me really like I miss the old way we all played it before this really.
Hi I’ve joined the campaign, my character is called Kilgrave level 1 rouge.
I am from U.K.
when do you normally play?
I play mostly during school hours during my free time or at home when I'm done with my school work....but that's rare for evenings with me playing....I'm from the USA
Okay my Discord is Kit Ramos#3940 I did go ahead and sent an add request to Deathangel if anyone else wants me to add them let me know.
As far as the character generation goes,I didn't mean to say I had any fully generated characters. just that I had a bunch of ideas for characters and would figure out what idea best fit the setting and rules once I knew them and would then start to flesh out the idea.
As for Bluesoul pointing out a lack of access to social programs well I'm not really sure then how to help with that, as all the campaigns I've been to use some form of social app, or site. And to me the reason why is unless we are doing a play by post system we'd need someway to actually meet up and that's where the social apps come into play, with Discord being the most common of those I've seen used. best I can think of if they let you on a site like roll20 I do believe they now have a voice chat component inside their campaign rooms which are limited to only those playing the campaign. I've never tried to use it though.
okay well if we got enough people next challenge is to figure out when to do this. I can do Monday/Tue/Thurs evenings after 6pm est. as well as Sat after 3pm est.
1st: OK, so I'm going to tell you now that not having Discord is going to hold you back, unless you plan to play-by-post. If that's the case, I think you probably need to make a new post for that reason, as D&D is typically a social game where online play requires, at the very least, Discord for voice chat. I'd talk to your parents, inform them that you want to pursue this hobby, that you've found a group but need Discord and see if they'll let you get it. I can also chat to them there to answer and questions and alleviate any concerns they may have.
2nd: 9 players is WAY too many for a game. You typically want 4 or 5, plus a DM for a game. You need a DM, preferably one with experience. Also, the DM should be the one to set group size, not the players.
3rd: D&DBeyond is not a VTT (Virtual table top). While it is possible to run games through D&DBeyond, most people use Roll20, Foundry, or another programme to allow for the actual table top options. Playing on D&DBeyond would require a theatre of the mind style game, which is doable, but there's no option for chat on this site, other than in the PbP forums which, if you can't do voice chat, you're going to have to use (unfortunately).
4th: This is me telling you how to play online. Right now you have 2 options. Make a Play by Post game and try to find a DM, or talk to your parents about getting Discord (at the very least) and Roll20. Both are free, both are safe provided you only use them for the purposes of the game (Discord can have some weird servers, but you must be invited to them or go hunting for them yourself).
Thank you I could really use the help :3
I mostly don't play in the evenings due to my house having bad internet...but I'll try to rp with you anytime I can :3
