Hello, I'm an experienced DM looking to run a Dragonlance campaign using the new 5E materials. I'm looking to start in a few weeks, once the holidays are over. The plan is to play once per week on Sunday evenings 7:00-10:00 CST, with a hard out at 11:00. Scheduling is somewhat flexible if this doesn't work for anyone.
I'm looking for players who are age 35+ with little to no experience playing D&D. The age and experience preferences are not a hard line. These are just preferences that are meant to encourage some of the more reluctant players to join the rest of us. If you are a more experienced player, you must have patience with rules explanations and rookie mistakes.
I have no tolerance for hate speech or any similar nonsense and am looking for players that feel the same way. If you need an exact definition for "similar nonsense" then this is probably not your group. I would like players from any background to feel welcome.
Please do not have a character made that you're in love with before knowing about the campaign. There are limitations on character creation choices that go along with the setting/storyline. Having a general idea regarding roles and personality is fine. There will be a session zero where we can work on back stories and get them linked up with the world at the beginning of the campaign.
This will be a heroic campaign beginning just before a great war and you're all on the same side. This means no evil characters. No PvP. In addition to violence, PvP also includes stealing from other characters or otherwise screwing them over in a significant way. As far as races are concerned, characters must be native to the world of Krynn (that means no Dragonborn, Tieflings, any percentage of Orc, and several others). I also don't allow multi-classing. I will give details about character creation upon request.
As of today, the plan is to run the game on AboveVtt. It is a free browser extension that is linked to DnD Beyond. It has enough features to help with the admin, but not so much that it starts to feel like a video game. A microphone is required. I also have Foundry and Discord as a backup plan. I have run several campaigns in person, but this will be my first one online. I'm confident that we'll get it worked out pretty quickly though.
If you are interested or have questions, please respond to this post or send a private message.
I can say I'm interested, though I wouldn't be able to make a Sunday evening. so I get how this might disqualify me but I thought I'd least mention it. I could do mon/tue/thurs/sat if any of those might be an option.
I would potentially be interested if there is a good group that meshes well. I'm free on Sundays but also Saturdays if that's what worked well for others. :)
I would be interested in a Sunday game. I know there was someone above who is unable to do Sunday, but that is my only free time.
I've been playing D&D since the 80's. While I have lots of experience I very much work well with others and have a good grasp to help new comers learn the rules as presented and also as the DM wants the game played.
I've never played in the Dragonlance world so this will be fun to learn.
Please let me know if I would be able to join, or at least have a conversation about this game.
Hi, I am free on Sundays and every other day as well. I have about 2 years of playing in person, and I've never played in Dragonlance but I like trying new things! Please PM me if interested, thanks.
I am interested in playing if there is still room. I am an experienced player but I have not gotten deep into Dragonlance so I want to try it out. PM me or message on discord Smurfey#1570.
I'll be sending PMs with a link to a little questionnaire within the next day or so to help both you and I to determine if the group will be a good fit for you. This is in regards to favored styles of play, expectations, and a bit of general personality. There will also be more information regarding the campaign.
We're all internet strangers at this point so I'm trying to gather some information as to who might work well together. Not everyone is a good match for every group. There's nothing wrong with that, nothing is personal. Also, that is a two-way street. I'm sure there are people who don't like the way I run games, I take no offense to that.
Please be honest with the responses since bad data will also hurt your own experience if you end up wasting time with a group that doesn't suit you.
I see there are some more experienced players who have shown interest. As I said, that is not a disqualifier. However, I have gotten responses from several new players and I'd like to reserve a majority of spots for them. Ideally, the group size with be 4-6 players. This usually allows for a good variety of characters while having enough spotlight to go around so that everyone has a chance to be the star on occasion.
I'm giving until the end of the weekend for others to respond to the OP. I should get PMs out by Sunday (12/18) night or Monday (12/19) morning.
The plan moving forward:
Session -1 (is that a thing?): This is to make sure people can connect to the game and work out whatever issues will inevitably occur. We'll do a little mini dungeon with some premade characters to make sure we know what buttons to click and if you even like playing this game or me as a DM. It's also a bit of teambuilding and getting to know you stuff. Depending on time, we can start the session 0 activities.
Session 0: This is meant to finalize character choices and suchlike. We may also start the preludes, which will be individual or small group mini-adventures that get your characters to the start of the proper story.
I'll be in touch soon. Once again, thanks for the responses.
This sounds interesting, and I'd be interested in responding to your questionnaire if you'd like to send it. I'm wrapping up my Saturday game and would like a Sunday one. I have less than a year's experience playing and know nothing about the Dragonlance setting. However, I am very story-focused and really would like to be part of a campaign where the party is hooked together. I'm also quite a few years over 35.
41 years old here. Brand new player, but I’ve been reading a ton and watching a lot of gameplay streams. Really excited to start playing!
I’m in EST time zone, but Sundays or really any day works for me. I’m all about a fun, inclusive, no BS game, and I’d love to go into it with people in my own age group.
Happy to answer any questions you may have, and hear more about the campaign. Hit me up here, or on Discord Xtian81 #6950.
I am 58 and have not played since hight school (that is 1978 to 1982). Now that all the kids have their own lives, trying to get back to DnD specifically and cooperative board games generally. So not much experience, but not an absolutely total newbie either. Read the 5e player’s handbook, created several characters on D&D Beyond, and played oneshot recently. Looking for fun, interactive, weekly game with people closer to my age. I am in EST time zone and available only Sunday nights.
if you still have room, looking forward to your questions.

I’m personally free on other days. I’ll have to check with other potential players though, since I did say Sunday.
