Hello! I'm Altamirage. I'm starting up a circus themed campaign!
Cirque des énigmes
Game: D&D 5e Group type:Online Experience:All welcome (veteran DM) Location/Timezone:PST Schedule:Fridays 5pm PST (flexible) Roles sought: 3-7 Players Game style:RP Heavy
Homebrew 5e campaign with players as performers and staff of a traveling circus! A strange circus with even stranger people. Mystery, fae, horror, necromancy, and of course 🤡 Meet the Ringmaster and his silent Shadow, the twin leaders of the cirque; a strongman ...minotaur?? that loves to cook; Petya, a nocturnal fortuneteller; the overly talkative Dr. Cross whose medical practices are... sometimes shady; and many more! Player input LOVED for what you want in the setting, story, etc. RP heavy, beginners more than welcome
Hard rules for all my games: NO racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, fatphobia, bigotry, etc. That includes fantasy versions (ie: "all orcs are born evil and therefore do x"). NO SA, noncon, torture.
I'm a 29yo nonbinary artist whose passion lies in storytelling! The most important things to me in ttrpgs are fun, roleplay, and story (including player characters' backstories, not just plot). I've been DMing for about 10 years and playing D&D for about 15. I love homebrew and having the players add onto the setting with locations, plot hooks, NPCs, deities, whatever they (reasonably) want to add! New players always welcome! Being LGBTQ+ myself, obviously this table loves and welcomes LGBTQ+ players!
Do not expect a rules lawyer here; the rules are here for me to use as a base, something to fall back on, but ultimately we're here to have fun and do cool things. Rules can and will be waived or bent in my games - but only in the favor of the players, never to try and put you at a disadvantage. I'm here to challenge the player characters and be their guide through the world they explore. Sure, the dice gods may demand a death every once in a blue moon, but I'm 100% the party's biggest fan.
Dubhain/Ringmaster: (pronounced "do-hwan") (right) eternally grumpy but good at theatrics. has some kind of scar from a spell that has left him half blind. he says he's better at the business end of the circus but he is great at rallying crowds and being grand and dramatic. not social. Delwynn/Shadow: (pronounced "dell-win") (left) the Ringmaster's Shadow. he is mute and not very expressive. whether in or out of costume, he is almost always right beside his brother. also lost an eye, and somehow less social than dubhain.
Vita Carmina: singer who loves attention. cheerful and social, but a germaphobe to such an extent that she won't get near anyone and never leaves her carriage.
Nadim and Sevinc: bards and musicians for the cirque. nadim helps with other acts, booths, etc when not performing. sevinc is usually covered head to toe in colorful clothes and a smiling mask; she is shy and common isn't her first language, but she has a beautiful voice, crafts instruments, and is a pretty good clown!
Ksenija: (pronounced 'xenia') half orc, half dwarf (dworc, if you will) magician. does not do real magic, but it sure looks like it. she gets glitter everywhere.
Petya: fortuneteller, psychic, etc etc etc. advertises tons of fortunetelling and speaking with the dead, really leans into the stereotype for customers. nobody in the cirque knows if he really has any kind of sixth sense or magic, or if he is just a really good conman.
Dr. Marianna Cross: aasimar doctor from a holy and prominent line of healers. he is the cirque's doctor. incredibly chatty (to a fault) and maybe not 100% ethical practices
Seraphina: aasimar? apparently an old friend of the twins... or something. she got lost in the faewilds and came back... a little different. she speaks rarely and in broken sentences. she is shown off at the cirque as "a monster in sheep's wool" for a show, but it's done as an act.
**BIBI!!!!** just a little goblin. cheerful, peppy, sociable, and LOVES animals. she is the cirque's beast tamer and hosts shows with the cirque's animals
Lethea: where youre currently at. kingdom ruled by the descoteaux bloodline for centuries. there is a large prestigious magic academy at the capital, as well as a colosseum, and the castle.
Myrnea: mountainous, hard to navigate for non natives, and rumored to have a lot of crazy shit in its forests. one main city that is easy for outsiders to get to, lots of towns and villages scattered among the mountains. two calderas are on either side of the main city. minor dragons and other strange ancient beings are said to reside here
Opalore Desert: gorgeous, sparkling sands and killer heat. has a large canyon running from the amastas deadlands to the ama'krym badlands. rich elven culture, gigantic cacti, and a rumored ancient dragon beneath the sands. also a lich may have completely nuked what are now the deadlands so it's now just an undead wasteland, but we dont talk about that. Giant's Hills are just south of the desert, and include steep shelves and cold temperatures. traditional goliath call these hills home.
Te'eshal and Bos'koh: low key isles with lots of farming, fishing, and mining. there is an important volcano to the dwarves on te'eshal
Triste: known to be riddled with fae, typically a safe haven unless you want to harm the forest or island. no cities, just small towns that work with nature. at least, til treuce decided to be shitty colonists, declare war, and took over triste after a brutal mostly one sided war.
Treuce: kingdom long ruled by elves, though these elves deviate from tradition and shun living with nature for Progress™️. lovely place to visit, not great to live unless you're rich.
Etron: a land split between progress and tradition, ruled by a council. the south is very industrial, the north is very not. there is a good balance in the capitol, where there is also a prestigious university (orcsford). necromancy is also more accepted in etron.
Tespia: tropical islands SUPER popular with snowbirds and retirees, but also known for its dangerous wildlife. much like florida, there's a lot of wild stories about people and things they do. ("tespia man eats entire owlbear raw, runs through streets naked covered in blood")
FOR YOUR CHARACTERS: stats: 4d6 drop the lowest, reroll 1s (OR point buy, your choice!) level: 4! equipment: starting equipment, 200g (to keep or spend on more eq), one uncommon magic item. ideas for homebrew stuff? lmk! dice: you may roll digitally or physically, just don't lie so blatantly to me that i'll figure out you're lying about your rolls dndbeyond -sources: all but rick and morty. get that shit outta here -preferences: optional features ON, milestone, your choice of fixed or manual HP rolling
