I'm quite new to playing and DM'ing, but I want to try running a short learning campaign for other new players. So given that this will be a bit of trial and error, I'm asking for (and offering) lots of patience and grace.
Game: D&D 5e Group type: Online: DnD Beyond, Discord chat Experience: New Location/Timezone: Any Schedule: Game will take place over Discord chat with no live group meeting times. You need to be able to post several times throughout the week to stay involved. Roles sought: Players (4) Age Rating: Open to players of all ages, but aiming for PG13 rating Game style: This is designed to introduce new players (who know little to nothing about RPGs) to creating and playing a character. Characters will be built during roleplaying, storytelling, and Player-DM conversations. The campaign is about helping players flesh out and learn their character (including backstory and personality) for roleplay, not just filling out a character sheet. There will be multiple encounters including problem-solving and/or combat. The length of the campaign will depend largely on how involved players are in the chat - if offered traditionally, it would be about 4 sessions.
Campaign Pitch: On a mid to late spring day, as you go about your normal activities, you are suddenly approached by a stranger. They offer you no more than a nod as greeting before revealing a scroll from within their robes and handing it to you. Confused but curious, you break the seal, unroll the parchment, and read. "We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted as a student in the Harper's Order of Shaundakul. If you choose to accept this invitation, pack quickly and begin traveling through Faerun's Western Heartlands, north of the River Chionthar where it meets the Trade Way. There you will reach Scornubel (also known as the Caravan City). With three more days' hard walk to the southwest is the small village of Aberuthven. The Harper's school within that village is well-marked. Bring this invitation and arrive by the last day of Spring to begin your training as an adventurer." When you look up, the stranger is gone. What do you do?

Why you'd like to participate
I'm hoping to have enough players to get started within a week.
Not sure I'm the right fit for what you have in mind, but I'm certainly interested.
Age & Experience: I've been gaming on and off since middle school...about 3 decades ago. I started off with the Basic Edition "red box" set. My core gaming group has been together since college and are 2e grognards. I've also dabbled with 3e a bit.
Other games include Cyberpunk 2020, Old WoD, Twilight 2000 & 2013, Marvel, Star Wars (West End Games & D20 versions), Call of Cthulhu, and a large chunk of the Palladium catalogue.
Pronouns: he/him or they/them works for me
Why do you want to play: I'm tired of playing hack & slash sessions. I'm tired of having to munchkin my characters to be relevant. And I'm really tired of playing with people who think the golden age of RPGs ended in the late 80s. The problem is, outside of those type of groups, I'm a fairly inexperienced role-player.
I would love to join this campaign; I am a 12 year old who goes by he/him pronouns and just started playing D&D last week. I'm hoping to get more experience in role-playing and just playing D&D in general.
Experience with DnD or other RPGs - 0 experience playing DnD, faintly familiar with the universe via Neverwinter Nights
Why you'd like to participate - I've been reading/watching/listening to a lot of DnD content lately and it looks like a lot of fun to get together and tell stories with people. I've no friends that are into gaming and all the local groups are very much filled with experienced players so it's quite intimidating to try and dip ones toes in when I have no idea what I'm doing. It's comforting that complete noobs is exactly what you're looking for.
If I may ask, would you like us to come in with a fleshed out character already built and then tweak it a bit, or some vague ideas, or just a total blank slate?
Age: 35 Preferred pronouns: he/him Experience: played one short campaign about 3 years ago Why I'd like to participate: Very much looking to get in to D&D this year as I wanted to after the campaign I played but life got in the way so it would be fantastic to have something that is geared towards beginners!

I'm interested in playing. I'm available M, Tuesday or Thursday after 8pm eastern. Discord: DougW#5405

I played one campaign for the first time two years ago for about 4 months but it died out. I'm looking to get back into this as it was fun when people actually role-played and worked as a team. This would be a great start to learning how to do both things again. Other RPGs are just video games so nothing really relevant
Why you'd like to participate
I want to continue learning DND as it was a very fun role-playing game and I enjoyed how situations are molded by our decisions. I also have younger kids who might like to play this in the future and I'd love to support and play with them.
It was just about a year ago today that I began a strange, beautiful, unexpected adventure that I would never have imagined. I know I've lost touch with almost all of you and I don't know if any of you will ever see this, but I wanted my unending gratitude out there in the universe in the hopes that it might find you.
I hope that you all are happy and well and know that you will always have a special place in my heart!❤️
