Game: Out of the Abyss (Weds) / Tomb of Annihilation (Thurs) Group Type: Online (Discord + Foundry VTT) Experience: All experience levels welcome! Location/Timezone: Eastern Standard Time Schedule: 10am - 1:30pm Roles Sought: Player Characters, beginning at Level 1
OUT OF THE ABYSS You wake up dangling upside-down, snared by your ankle in a dark and terrifying place. You are a prisoner -- not just of the drow that captured you, but of the Underdark, that malicious labyrinth that lies underneath the world proper. Some people were made to be adventurers, while others have no hopes besides survival. You? You fall into that latter category. You have no lofty dreams of slaying dragons and earning the respect of your lords. All you want is to get back to your home with your body and your mind intact.
TOMB OF ANNIHILATION Welcome to Chult! This tropical paradise has everything you need -- relax on the sand in the evenings, explore the jungles during the day, and don't forget to venture into the cities, where you can experience the joys of dinosaur racing! There's really nowhere like it in the Forgotten Realms. Get away from your troubles in Chult!
*static breaks through, and you soon hear a faint scream*
Something strange is happening in the jungle. A death curse, they say, something that is killing the living and trapping the dead. It's up to you, now, to go into the wilderness and cut out the black heart at the source of this malady. Enter the open maw of the tomb, if you dare!
ABOUT ME I began roleplaying in the diceless play-by-post sphere about 15 years ago before moving into Dungeons & Dragons in high school. I started DMing in college off and on, selecting my campaigns based on the ones that excited me. I began DMing online during the pandemic and took up paid DMing recently as a way to get some extra cash and alleviate some boredom. My go-to build is a Leonin Gloom Stalker Ranger with the Outlander background.
GM STYLE My favorite video games are open world survival stories, and I aim to reflect that in my games. I want to make both the Underdark and the realm of Chult feel real and vibrant. I try to match the tone that my players bring me: while a game in Avernus might be a stoic descent into the Nine Hells, the Feywild is more jovial and light-hearted. I'm less a "rule of cool" DM and more "rule of creativity" -- I love outside of the box solutions to problems, and I especially love reflavoring gear so that it matches the character.
As the player who never sends my backstory to the DM, I don't expect a dissertation in advance. I will work to incorporate elements of your backstory into the campaign, but if you're still figuring out who your character is, I want us to figure that out together.
HOW TO PREPARE Please have a free Discord account and a good microphone. Foundry VTT does not need players to register an account in advance. D&D Beyond is supported and makes my life easier, but I also accept PDFs that I can import as needed.
Characters will start at Level 1, with ability scores assigned through point buy and fixed HP. All races, classes, and backgrounds are allowed, as well as Tasha's additional spells and alternate classes. Take the starting equipment from your class and background.
If we can get one more player for Out of the Abyss, we can start tomorrow morning (February 1)! Sessions will typically go 3 hours, occasionally longer if we're in the middle of a battle or otherwise intense scene.
