So I've decided to run a session of D&D on Sundays, as finding a game that works around my schedule is pretty difficult. The listed start time has a little bit of wiggle room for convenience of the group, but the listed time works best for me as the DM. This will be my 1st time running Dragonlance, so any hardcore fans please take it easy on me as I'm still learning the details of this particular world along with its lore. I've been a DM for over 2 years now, running 2 games each week for the majority of that time. While I'm fairly certain I could run 3 each week, I'm going to start this campaign off as bi-weekly so I can ensure I give you guys a quality experience and not run myself into the ground. If I get to the point that I'm certain I could maintain a weekly session, then I will put it to the group to see if everyone would be able and wanting a weekly session. But that will be further down the line, so we will cross that bridge when we get to it. Now onto the details.
New players and players of any experience are welcome to join.
The Time The Day: Sundays, Bi-weekly. Start Time: 1pm GMT/8am EST/5am PST Session Length: Average session will last 3-4 hours, and could last up to 5 if there is need to extend for a major story event or fight. (I dislike ending a session in the middle of a fight, so will end a session before I fight if I don't think we will end it in time)
DM's Note: I am aware that this is very early for anyone in the US, and I do apologise for that. But as I said before this is the best start time for me, but there is an hours worth of wiggle room to allow the session to start an hour later. However, this would remove any extra time I would have on the day for concluding events that take longer than I expected before I'd need to log off.
The Group There are currently 2 players that have signed up for the campaign from the discord we will be hosting the campaign in. They are currently planning on running a Sorcerer and a Paladin. So please keep this in mind when deciding your class choices. I am currently looking to add 3 more players to bring the count to 5.
Session 0 Depending on how quickly I'm able to assemble a group of players, the session 0 will be held at the regular session start time this Sunday (5th Feb) or failing that the following Sunday. We will determine when we have Session 1 once we know when everyone can attend. If someone who joins is already part of a bi-weekly Sunday group then so long as it doesn't conflict with another players schedule to participate then I'm more than happy to move the campaign to the relevant weekend to make things easy for people.
During Session 0 we will be going over the specifics of character creation and making sure everyone is where they need to be for the start of the campaign.
What I require of you - THE PLAYERS There are a few things that you will require to have in order to participate:
Discord Account - All out of session and in session communication will be done on Discord. We have a discord server where I will be hosting this. There are a number of other campaigns (a few that aren't DnD) on that server that are being run by myself and other DM's. We have created a nice little community over there, and you are welcomed to participate in it as much or as little as you'd like.
A Roll20 Account - This is the VTT we will be using.
A DnDBeyond Account - So you can join the campaign link so I can share my character creation materials with you, as well as any homebrew items I may introduce.
Beyond20 Browser Extension - If you are using the character sheet on DnDBeyond this free extension shares your rolls with the VTT.
DM's Note: While I require you to join the campaign link on DnDBeyond, I do not require you to use the character sheet there. You are free to use a Roll20 character sheet if you prefer, but I want you in the campaign link so I can more easily give you the details on any items/home brew items that will come up in the campaign.
Absence: Real Life is important and comes first, so I'm not going to punish anyone who can't attend a particular session for whatever reason. Even if it's just on that particular day you're not up to playing DND and just want to chill and relax. However, I expect anyone not turning up to let me (the DM) know with as much notice as you can provide that you won't be able to attend. This is just respectful to those who are making the effort to turn up. If enough people get in touch to say they won't be turning up, then I can let everyone know that a session is cancelled and let them plan to do something else with their time instead.
On the flip side of that, not notifying the group that you will be absent on multiple occassions is considered rude and disrespectful, and will likely result in you being removed and a replacement being found for you.
Character Absence: In a given session where a player is absent, their character will not be actively participating in the session, although they will be there narratively so you can join the action next time you are able to attend. However, this does mean your party will be going into battle with a missing link, so keep that in mind. This also means that if you get any loot is up to the generosity of the rest of the party. If you don't play then you aren't necessarily eligible for the rewards that the party earn. However, in the event of TPK, your character will not be killed. I think it would be unfair for you to lose your character when you were not there. This also avoids any ill feelings between players should another person have got your character killed if they were controlling them on your behalf.
How to Apply If you want to put your name forward to be eligible for joining send me a message/friend request over on Discord and we shall begin a short interview process at our earliest convenience, where I will ask you some questions and you will have the opportunity to ask me any questions that you may have.
While we will be covering character creation at Session 0, I'd like everyone applying to have an idea of what class(es) they'd like/be willing to use during the campaign. This will be part of the interview process I'll cover over on Discord.
Discord name has been removed. No more applications are being taken at this time.
Thank you to everyone who has applied. There are far more of you have applied than I have spaces unfortunately, and while I would love to give everyone a spot I'm just not able to. For now I am stopping any further applications as I have so many atm.
If you haven't heard from me yet in Discord, please don't worry. I am working my way through the list of those who applied based on when I recieved the application (friend request). I plan on concluding the interview process soon. One way or another I will be in touch to let you know whether or not there is still a space available, but for those of you who didn't make the cut this time round, I will be offering spots on a waiting list should any of the chosen players not work out.
