Hello adventurers, and welcome to the land of Tal'Dorei! Whether you are a native of this realm or a visitor from beyond, there is excitement to be found for anyone proficient with swords, spells, or silver-tongued speech. So pull up a chair and let me buy you a drink in exchange for a story. Who are you?
Hi all, I've returned from a hiatus and I am itching to jump back into PbP this time with an adventure set in Critical Role's Tal'Dorei! I love this setting and am looking for other critters out there with a thirst for adventure, a familiarity with the setting, and the ability to post frequently. We will be handling out-of-character conversations and dice rolls on Discord (link to be released later), leaving our PbP thread for in-character posts and narration. Like Critical Role, our campaign will feature both RP and combat elements and present opportunities for hack-and-slashers, skill monkeys, and spell-blasters alike to shine. For the ease of roleplaying and character creation, please only fill a slot if you are familiar with Critical Role and its campaign setting as I do not want to inform people about Tal'Dorei anymore than I have to. So if you have never watched/barely watched Critical Role, this is maybe not the adventure for you.
This game will take place about half a year after the events of Critical Role Campaign 1. We will start at 3rd level (standard array or point buy). If you meet the qualifications and are interested in joining, please post a short profile of your character consisting of:
Character name:
Race:
Class:
Gender:
Backstory (a brief paragraph of who you are, where you came from, and what you do):
I will close the recruitment thread in a few days and choose the applicants that I want to play with. Please do not take it personally if you are not chosen, it is not a reflection of you or your D&D skills.
Please note that official published materials are acceptable (except for certain races), including what is in the Tal'Dorei campaign guide. That means no homebrew and no UA. Races that are restricted are all monstrous races (goblins, kobolds, orcs, etc.), lizardfolk, tritons, aarakocra, and kenku. While evil-aligned characters can be interesting story-wise, I am requesting that there be no evil-aligned characters. Since this does take place in Tal'Dorei, Matt Mercer's Blood Hunter class is authorized for play. And please, no direct connections to members of Vox Machina or any major characters. You can be a member of the Ashari or a native of Whitestone, per se, but I won’t authorize people to be relatives of Vox Machina or major characters. I live in the Pacific Time Zone (UTC - 8) and usually post in the afternoons and evenings.
Now that we’re past all the “you can’t” things, thank you for your consideration and if you have any questions please ask. I look forward to your posts!
Here’s the LFP info from me:
Game: D&D 5e Group type: Online (Discord and D&D Beyond PbP Forum) Experience: New and experienced players welcomed to apply. Location/Timezone: California, USA (Pacific Time Zone). Schedule: TBD Roles sought: 5 players, pick any class you want that meets the requirements. Game style: A mix of combat and roleplaying in the rich setting that is Tal’Dorei.
Kriv is a ravenite from the ruins of Draconia. Other than being dragonborn, magic seems to have skipped a generation as far as Kriv goes. He doesn't posses the natural / sorcerous magic that many dragonborn have, but it's the thing he wants the most. As such... he has an insatiable thirst for magic... more than his home of wildemount can provide.
For my own background... I've been playing 5e-based weekly campaigns with the same group of friends (in-person and online) for around 2 years. Looking to add a Pbp game into the mix... I'd likely be able to post multiple times a day. I've watched / listened to the first 25 episodes of campaign 1 and am up-to-date on campaign 2 (if selected I'd probably go back and listen to the ravenite / draconia episodes from campaign 1).
Backstory Sin he came up in a monastery but was kicked out. because the goddess he warships is not the same as theres and for that reason he got blamed for killing someone. ( sorry work in progress)
i have watched/ listened to all Crit roll season one but im on season 2 im on eps 10
ii am looking forward to hear from you if i am picked
Backstory: Born into a unique clan of red-eyed goliaths, Razz was sent out of his clan after nearly killing the clan leader's son. Luckily, Razz was taken in by a friendly elven druid, Myrth, who taught him how to control his barbarian powers, and many otherthings. Upon returning home to his clan, Razz found that nearly everyone was slaughtered, their bodies left impaled around their home. Swearing to be his clan's "Wrath", Razz would seek vengeance for them as he went out into the world.
Personally, have been DMing to much as of late, and just want to play as a player before shipping out to bootcamp. Am a big fan of Critical Role, but haven't been able to watch Season 2 because I'm binging other similar shows like The Adventure Zone and Dice, Camera, Action.
Backstory; Quinn's a street kid from Emon. Doesn't know who her parents are, doesn't really know anything about herself except her first name. I'm deliberately leaving her backstory as open as possible so maybe stuff can happen from it, I dunno.
Backstory : Ever the oddball of his family Tal avoided the politics of Syngorn, he found it rather dull and did not share his family's lust for magic or craftmanship but instead found solace in the living trees surrounding Syngorn. Along the outskirts of the city he discovered the Verdant Gaurd made of mostly wood elves and long to follow in their footsteps of taking care of the forest. One day, his wanderlust grew so vast that he stole away in the night leaving the city, his title, and all that he knew behind for adventures past the Verdant Expanse. Still adjusting to life without privilege he can be rather confused with how the "younger" races act but his time away from Syngorn will surely mellow him out.
I started watching Critical Role/listened to the podcast version from episode 80 up until the end of the first campaign and have just started rewatching the begining to refresh my knowledge of the events of the Chroma conclave up. I filled in most of my knowledge by reading the wiki and buying the Tal'Dorei Campaign book so I know most of what happened. I've played a home game the past two years with only just recently tried my hand at DMing the Tal'Dorei Campaign in a one shot and wanted to play some more in the setting.
A former captain of the smuggling ship, The Dawnstar, Edward's unwillingness to hurt innocent people lead to a souring of his relationship with his crew. His refusal to take on the more morally questionable jobs lead to frustration and eventually a mutiny lead by his First Mate, who also happens to be his wife, Charlotte.
Left stranded on an uninhabited island for 6 months with nothing but his beloved rapier and hand crossbow (affectionately named Beverly and Tabitha) Ed was eventually rescued by a passing merchant ship. After having made his way back to dry land (which he hates) and 'acquiring' some basic equipment from the merchant ship, Ed made his way to Emon where he began carrying out small jobs in the port of the city, in hopes of one day captaining his own ship once more.
All of my previous DnD experience has been through pbp and i too am itching to get back into it after a long breal. Ive followed Critical Role from pretty much the beginning so I'm quite savy with the lore. I'm in the UK so my posting times may be a bit misaligned with the rest of you, hopefully that won't be a problem.
Backstory: A draconian born outside of the kingdom of Draconia, Krenak Brightscale was raised in an off-road temple to the Changebringer, goddess of travel and change. Though he showed no real talent for magic, his impressive physique and deep devotion to the goddess he was raised under led him to become a prime champion of Her faith.
Is this going to be a milestone or experience game?
Not sure if you are still accepting applications, but here is mine. Let me know, thanks!
Character name: Shawsten Spark
Race: Fire Genasi
Class: Sorcerer (Divine Soul)
Gender: M
Backstory: A fire Genasi left abandoned within the city of Vasselheim. He was raised and trained by a local member of the slayer's take, Roh Daelish. His adopted father helped cultivate his sorcerer abilities and Shaw learned to channel his divine energies by the priests of Bahamut within Vasselheim. His adopted father trained him in hopes he would one day join the Slayer's take. However, Shaw yearns to uncover where both his Genasi ancestry and divine abilities have come from. Shaw believes that both his ancestry and abilities come from the god Pelor, he has set out of Vasselheim in hopes of uncovering these answers.
Backstory: Witrun was born to one of the more affluent families of Draconia. Growing up he never took to the traditional ways of the Draconians and enjoyed the more base and physical activities. Even at a young age he was able to defeat most Draconians in physical tests such as racing and wrestling. This led him on a search for better competition eventually leading him to the Ravenites. Some Ravenites did take to him and indulged him in his need for competition. This eventually lead him to be scolded and looked down on by most Draconians. Wittrun found himself in a difficult position at the beginning of his adult years. He was essentially an outcast of the Draconians because of his constant interaction and mingling with the Ravenites. At the same time the Ravenites would never fully accept him due to their abuse at the hands of his family and kin. This all changed when Vorugal, the Frigid Doom and the Chroma Conclave toppled that hierarchy. After Vorugals defeat he decided to leave Draconia, and all its prejudices behind, and seek out a new life in Tal'Dorei.
Backstory: Born with a slight golden light, Kassim grew up in the distant land of Marquet, where he was raised in a noble family. Being sheltered, Kassim would frequently sneak out of his home, avoiding the eyes of the servants and guards. He soon found an interesting place that was abandoned. It seemed to be a temple of some sort. Spending his nights there, he eventually began to talk to the air, speaking of adventure and a hope to see new things. One night however, he heard a voice speak to him as a cloaked figure walked from behind a pillar. Afraid at first, he darted and ran back home. He didn't go back for a week, but when he did, the figure was still there waiting for him. He began to talk to the figure every night, learning of the golden light that blesses all life, and the pure goodness of mankind. He slowly began to worship Pelor. Years later, a devout follower of the Dawnfather, he decided to travel and spread the light of his faith to the now rebuilding continent of Tal'Dorei.
Personality Traits: My friends know they can rely on my no matter what. My language is always foul (no filter)
Ideals: The thing that keeps a ship together is mutual respect between captain and crew
Bonds: I was cheated out of my fair share of the profits and I will get my due
Background Story: Captain of a ship over thrown over board by my fellow sailors after finding a treasure which belonged to a mutual ally, wanting to return it and the others did not agree, I was swept away in a current and awoke on a beach along the Sword coast, in a fit of rage after coming to these strange powers I now possessed manifested. and quite frankly scared the shit outta me, spent most of my time trying to learn about what happened to me and traveling along the sword cost searching for my ship from port to port. After searching one night and finding my self in a tavern, Order a tall and a short upon receiving the drinks, downtrodden and feeling as I would never find my ship. Someone tapped me on the shoulder....

Backstory: Veldan is a Half-Elf raised within the walls of Syngorn. Born from a tryst between a high-ranking Elven Arcanist and a traveling Human Paladin, Veldan had a rough time growing up among his peers. Despite that and ignoring warnings, his mother bestowed unto him his family's legacy- the coveted and closely-guarded art of Bladesinging. Though looked down on by purebloods, a stubbornly wide smile and sheer insistence of his latent talent finally earned him a modicum of begrudgingly-offered respect. Named Arcane Knight-Officer of the Wardens and assigned a retainer, Veldan thought that his life was finally starting to come into focus.
That was, until, a message arrived for him, sent from someone in the human world. It was a man he'd never met, but had irrevocably shaped the course of his life- his Father. The retired hero requested that Veldan visit him, but would not say why. Unsure if it was a desire to meet the man that sired him or if it was an excuse to get away from this city, Veldan gathered up his things and his steward before slipping out of Sygnorn in the night and traveling the outside world for the first time in his life.
