The vassal kingdom of Pitax on the continent of Arandor has recently been abuzz with talk of a noble's plan to steel from the newly discovered temple-hoard of a long dead dragon. It seems the man by the name of Francisco de Lacché, hired a group of adventurers from the Ark to help with this endevor.
Firstly, in an effort headed by well known rogue and blowpipe murderer Elican Sindaris, a river ship carrying artifacts from the excavated temple, along with the archaeologist who made the discovery, was snuck on to as it made dock in the capital city and a number of artifacts stolen. This was both helped and hindered somewhat by a small battle taking place after the unexpected arrival of a large number of the city's guard, intent on arresting the archaeologist and crew for smuggling and embezzelment.
Over the next week, a wizardly associate of Mr de Lacché was able to use the thieved artifacts to create a teleportation ritual to transport the group directly to the most inaccessible parts of the temple. There, it seems, evidence of a long ago battle was found, before the group managed to enter the great treasure chamber of the temple. Here they were presented with a riddle and having voiced the answer were suddenly transported to a nearby mountain top, where they were set upon by a large draconic warrior.
The ensuing battle was by all accounts most brutal, the warrior being armed with an enormous axe and letting out both great gouts of flame and terrible roars which struck fear into a number of the party, along with being able to turn aside many magical effects. Indeed, having spent the first few moments verbaly goading this being, Elican became the focus of its anger and was killed after taking many terrible blows. However, through a combination of it being restraned by the mountainous loxodon Gorrek, the cleric Faerzauth chaneling the healing power of Vulkan and some calming potions from the parties sniper, the group held true and the warrior was eventually felled, before they were telleported back to the Pitax capital.
Mr de Lacché was apparently most impressed with their efforts and the magical object they returned with and payed quite handsomly. However, rumours abound that the object, supposedly a phylactery of the ancient dragon, is in fact a fake and there are whispers of the involvement of an unusualy intelligent kobold.
Having recieved payment from Mr de Lacché, a number of the group had reason the remain in Pitax for a time. However, not long after they each heard of a new contract, this time placed by the Pitaxy military.
On enquiring, the three were directed to a small hamlet near to the borders of the vast, elven inhabited forest of Weldenvarden, where they also met with the tabaxi warrior Kitty. A small unit of Pataxian soldiers and a spellcaster where there, having been sent to the hamlet to investigate and subsequently sent word for the contract to be posted. They explained to the group that for just over a week, the people of the hamlet had suddenly found their dreams invaded by terrible nightmares, preventing them from gaining any rest. Most of the people there where now so week as to be confined to their beds and these same dreams hade begun to effect the soldiers as soon as they had arrived. Being so close, the forest was the obvious culprit and indead after some investigation and questioning, a magical wind was perceived blowing throug the hamlet from the east, directly from the forest. Additionally, to gain some possible insight, Kitty took a short nap with the rest of the group watching over them and was subject to a horrible nightmare where they found themselves in a forrest clearing, being bludgeoned to death by mushrooms.
Now convinced that something in the forest was to blame, the group set off eastwards, soon entering the treeline and following the direction of the odd magical wind. In a very short time, the came upon a large clearing with a tall stone stood in the center, which Kitty declared to be exatly the same as they had seen in their nightmare. After cautiously inspecting the area for a little while and discovering numerous symbolic etchings on the stone, the group was disturbed by an old woman, emerging from the forest nearby. Over the corse of an extensive verbal back and forth, as well as further inspection of the stone, it became apparent that this woman was most likly a Hag of some form and that the stone was placed here as a prison of some form, holding in some creature of great power. However, it was now partially damaged and some of the prisoners power was leaking through, prosumably what was effecting the hamlet. With little progres made, the Hag gave an offer, that with a blood sacrifice from one of the group, they could repair the stone. Amazing the others, the cleric Faerzauth agreed to this, striding to the center of the clearing, but were suddenly set upon by a nuber of the mushrooms, which transformed before their eyes into foul Redcaps. These, along with the hag, attacked him, but they had seemingly underestimated the strenghth of the individuals they had pulled into this trap. Faerazuth teleported away from the Redcaps, which were imediatly restrained with magical webs, blinded and then hacked apart, as the sniper, Jenny, placed a pair of devestating shots into the Hag, who promtly fled and dissapeared into a tree.
Having perhaps disuaded the Hag from trying something similar again and with no way to solve the problem, the group made their way back to the hamlet and abvised that the only sensible action would be for the residents to abandon the settlement, before taking payment for their work and going on their way.
