Game: D&D 5e - Dragons of Stormwreck Isle Group type: Online - Text based RP/PbP via Discord (i.e., no voice chat or VTTs) Experience: New Location/Timezone: DM is UK/BST Schedule: Not fixed. Play is continuous throughout the day, expect most activity to be after work; 5PM-9PM BST [for US; thats 12-4pm EST, 11-3pm CDT] Roles sought: 4 Players Age: 18+
I'm looking to run Dragons of Stormwreck Isle for a group of 4 players. This campaign is quite short and intentionally made for beginners, so it's ideal for anyone who hasn't yet had the chance to play, or has perhaps only played a few sessions.
About me - I'm a first-time DM, looking for a group that really has a strong interest in storytelling and getting into their characters. The age restriction is mostly owing to me being near 30, and looking to have players at a similar stage of life. I'm a trans man myself, so rest assured this will be a very LGBT supportive group! I'm a pretty relaxed and patient guy, so I'll endeavour to do my best to make you all feel safe and welcome.
What is Dragons of Stormwreck Isle?
The adventure takes your party to the titular Stormwreck Isle, an island off the Sword Coast, shaped by conflict between the two dragon families found in the Forgotten Realms (D&D’s core setting). Runara, the peaceful yet mysterious leader of the Dragon’s Rest cloister will introduce you to the Isle and its many problems. Several are the result of the area’s fraught history, but some threats come from feuding dragons that are still very much alive. It's a very traditional fantasy adventure and will take the party up from level 1 to level 3.
About the game
This'll be a roleplay-heavy campaign due to the limitations of text-based play, so expect plenty of opportunities to interact with the party and NPCs; You'll have a lot of chance to flesh out your characters personality and story. Don't worry if you're not a strong writer, as the game will be written primarily in a screenplay-like format i.e. "Character speaks" [Character acts], rather than in full prose (though there will be opportunities for that, if you want!). I plan to add things in on the fly and tweak the campaign material to adapt it for your characters and their backstories where I can, both so I can develop as a DM and to get you more invested.
In further regard to the format, this particular style of play can be very fast paced for a PBP; imagine playing DnD in your whatsapp group chat. If you don't have regular access to your phone/PC to get on discord and DDB, you may get a little behind, though I will be intervening to pause play if a player hasn't had a chance to speak for a while.
In terms of character creation, we will be rolling new characters for the campaign to be built during the pre-game period. I have the relevant sourcebooks for most races and subclasses, and will share, but know there will be none of the more exotic monster races. The setting's not a good fit for evil alignments, so it's locked to good/neutral alignments.
I'll be keeping the thread open for a while, and then I'll send round campaign invites via PM. We'll then have a good week or so of 'Session Zero' and character building so you and I can all prepare.
If you're interested, please fill out the following and post it on this thread. These questions are just to help me pick a team I think will enjoy playing together in case there's >4 folk express interest. Feel free to ask me any questions via PM, but don't PM me your application please, so that other potential players can see who's interested:

Time Zone/active hours, and are you able to keep up with daily play: PST, Between 10 am and 8 pm, obviously can limit that closer to the earlier part of my time-window as there are time zone differences. Yes, I can keep up with daily play.
Experience level: Intermediate, probably. I have played with a set group of people since just before COVID, obviously that whole situation slowed down any meetups. DMed one one-shot that was awkward, but fun and a good learning experience. I love to theory-craft characters.
What do you enjoy about DnD/RPGs: I used to be a frequent RP'er on GaiaOnline, if that is a thing anyone here ever did. Once I grew out of that website I had a hard time finding that RP outlet online and found D&D through some podcasts - I knew about D&D before of course, but hadn't really thought about playing it until my mid-20s. I was usually more of a video game kind of person until then. PBP seems like a format I could fall easily back into since it's so similar to what I did for so long with Gaia.
What would you dislike in a game/a pet peeve: Murderhobo/Entirely disengaged players/DM without any flexibility. I love a silly campaign, don't get me wrong, the annoyance comes when the story it going one direction and players disregard literally everything laid out by the DM or, alternatively, if the DM describes a scene and the players interact with the scene laid out but not in a way the DM wanted so are punished in some way for that decision. Basically, people playing like the other people in the game don't matter.
Otherwise, I'm flexible and enjoy both light-hearted and serious-tone games and will match my character to that mood-expectation.
EDIT: forgot to include my Discord username, whoops! PixellVixen#3139
Time Zone/active hours, and are you able to keep up with daily play: cst, can be partially active during weekdays 8-5pm but more active in the evenings 5-10pm. Weekends vary but wouldn't be hard to find the time
Experience level: moderate, played 3.5 for a bit in high-school. Been dabbling in 5e the past couple of years in various short lived campaigns and one shots. Did some text based rp on some old forums in high school too.
What do you enjoy about DnD/RPGs: I love exploring the character/s and finding out things about them I didn't necessarily think of when creating them or seeing how they interact with the party.
What would you dislike in a game/a pet peeve: my biggest pet peeve is probably when someone has the "main character" mindset and thinks that the story/quests should all revolve around their character and the other characters are just accessories to their success.
Time Zone/active hours, and are you able to keep up with daily play: EST flexible schedule, can make time for the campaign with a day’s notice.
Experience level: new player
What do you enjoy about DnD/RPGs:
When I was very young I did cringy roleplays, that would’ve been up until the age of 13, it evolved as time went on (short stories, poetry and now song writing), it had turned into a love for writing in general. Everyone in my freshman class was always hyped to hear my short stories in english so that was a big ego/confidence booster. I’d attempted to write a novel but my attention span wouldnt allow it💀. I had found that the funnest part was always creating interesting characters, the interactions the character had with the worlds I created. Once I hit the age of 19 I discovered DnD and it had my interest. The idea of different creative minds coming together to form an epic story with unique characters and unique interactions in between these characters. Its all just so cool to me and I’m excited to get into it.
What would you dislike in a game/a pet peeve:
I saw PixellVix’s post where they mentioned disengaged players and Dungeon Masters. I’d say pretty much the same, the 2 times I attempted to get into dnd this was the issue that I faced.
Time Zone/active hours, and are you able to keep up with daily play: EST, I Monday thru Friday, but I can always chime in during a down time if needed. Otherwise, evenings are best. I'm pretty much available by phone at all times until about midnight.
Experience level: Been playing since January of 2022. I DM a game of Netherdeep for a group of friends that's currently 30 sessions strong. Just looking to be a player in any kind of capacity.
What do you enjoy about DnD/RPGs: I love RPing so much. As a DM, I get a lot of chances to create cool characters for momentary events. I love palling around with a party and getting into shenanigans. I also love describing each detail for my character, down to the tiniest thing. Building relationships with people is a real joy, and RPing allows be to be someone else, even just for a brief amount of time.
What would you dislike in a game/a pet peeve: Like others have said, but disengaged players and DM's is a real buzzkill. If I'm putting in effort to flesh out my character, I would hope you'd do that same! When someone doesn't "yes and" what I'm doing or someone else is doing, then the RP dies and we lose it completely.
Time Zone/active hours, and are you able to keep up with daily play: GMT+2, I'm active throughout the day, mostly between 1 pm and 11 pm. I'm able to keep up with daily play.
Experience level: Took part in a couple IRL & online games in the past, but they fizzled out quickly due to conflicting schedules. I've also participated in some PbP games ran through Discord last year, so I know my way around Avrae and Tupperbox bots. Recently came back from a longer D&D hiatus - hoping to brush up on my skills & game knowledge again, and scratch that sweet roleplay itch!
What do you enjoy about DnD/RPGs: The whole package, I suppose? But if I had to point out specifics, I'd say roleplaying and staying true to my character's personality/motivations brings me a lot of joy,as well as seeing every PC's growth as the story progresses. I love taking the opportunity tointeract with other PCs, NPCs and the world in general. Combat and exploration aspects are fun as well, but not the primary reason I play D&D.
What would you dislike in a game/a pet peeve: Murderhoboing, metagaming, ghosting, 'play to win' attitude.
Hello hello! Thank you in advance for considering me. :)
Age: 34
Time Zone/active hours, and are you able to keep up with daily play: MST, I'm usually up and active between 6am and 10pm as I have a toddler. I'm a stay at home mom so I'm active online pretty much all day. I'm definitely able to keep up with daily play.
Experience level: Intermediate. Played a bit of AD&D way back in the day and have played a few 5e games this year. Almost was constantly involved in the rp-sphere online (mostly MSN and AIM) from age 14 to 21. I enjoy creative writing and actually minored in it for Uni.
What do you enjoy about DnD/RPGs: I love the concept of building a world and characters and lore, the way you can plan things out in your mind but the second it starts forming in text, things can take on such a life of their own. Finding out about how things interconnect or building those connections on my own is so fun to me.
What would you dislike in a game/a pet peeve: I'm pretty easy going, so there isn't much that bothers me, but I tend not to like excessive amounts of time focused on the travel aspect of dnd. Chaos campaigns are a-okay here. Also, as I see others have mentioned, disengaged players and DMs are definitely a bummer. Everyone has to work together to keep the story moving.
Discord: Sweet Star Designs#1339 (it's fastest to hit me up on there)
Time zone/Active hours: CET, apart from this week, when I have my last few days of internship, I will be available almost round the clock :)
Experience Level: Noob. It would be my first campaign ever, I have wanted to get into DnD for so long yet never worked up the courage to put myself out there.
What would you dislike in a game/a pet peeve: I can't really say that I have any specific pet peeves, since I have never played before. I guess the biggest issue for me would be if people ignore the beginner and look down on them for it, heh.
AzureJoy#8166, Discord is also the place where I would most easily be reached!
Time Zone/active hours, and are you able to keep up with daily play: cst, can be relatively active during weekdays 8am-5pm. Weekends vary but I should be free most weekends.
Experience level: moderate, I have played some one shots while overseas and I have played one long campaign that ended when the DM quit which is very unfortunate.
What do you enjoy about DnD/RPGs: I love the role playing and seeing just how our characters can shape the game. I like exploring and how well we as a group can interact and fight together. I love the chaotic moments and the somber ones. It’s all just a really fun experience.
What would you dislike in a game/a pet peeve: my biggest pet peeve are the players who quit/throw tantrums when they don’t get their way. I don’t like the “my way or the highway” players.
Time Zone/active hours, and are you able to keep up with daily play: EST, but I work 3rd shift. My typical sleeping hours are typically 1-8 PM GMT. Should be able to post fairly regularly outside of those hours.
Experience level: Still fairly new to 5e & PBP. Have one prior 2-month long 5e campaign under my belt on discord. Have a lot of very dusty memories of 2e from the long long ago.
What do you enjoy about DnD/RPGs: Character development and interactions. Watching how they all change and grow from the begining to the end of a campaign.
What would you dislike in a game/a pet peeve: Shortest answer would be players and DMs who only see the game world as a collection of stat blocks.
